I’ve gpt a unit I bought at Fleet Farm – 2550#, 6.5hp B&E engine. Have doen the deck and now the house w/ it. Also have done a vehicle or two – seemed to leave a layer of dirt on the car – w/o car wash pw soap.

One the house – soap seemed to make alot of differance.

Well – after 3 trips to the shop and over $350, it (outboard) now runs again (or seems to – based on my running on the lake tonight).

1st shop trip was to an independant mechanic – got a referral from a happy client. The guy cleaned the card – checked fuel pump, etc. Trip to the lake showed ok at first, but the longer I ran it – the worse it got – still spitting and sputtering.

Called the guy back – he suggested differant gas tanks and lines – no go – same thing – after an intial ‘ok’ run. Called him back – he wouldn’t return my calls – not happy about that.

Took it to Al’s Specialty in Rochester – they cleaned the carb – got it back – it ran better – but still not right – no top end – just didn’t spit and sputter as frequently. Hauled it back to Al’s – they worked on it again – finally putting it in tank of water and just letting it run – and it finally happened – for them.

They put it a new power pack – and I must admit – it ran fine tonight – until I ran out of gas in 1 tank (2nd one was along). Just in time to put it away for the winter .

I was out there yesterday from about 7.30 until 12.30. Initially found some fish in Ryans, in about 6 FOW – lots of interest by the fish, but they were light bites, just nipping at the tail type.

Moved to the main channel about 10.00, or when the sun peaked out, and there I found fish in 13-20 FOW – scattered, but there. Just moving the boat w/ the TM, fishing about 10′ deep, w/ a close as possible to vertical approach, I got some nice sunnies and 3 crappies. Was using a red and chartruese tube.

Three of the sunnies were small – non keepers. Most were 7.5 to 8″, the crappies were 9.5-10″. Also a lone LMB of about 10″. All released.

I put new plugs in it, and had it on the water Sunday. It’s running better, but still not completely right. I can get the motor to open up now, but it still has an occasional miss / spit / sputter / hesitation. Will be calling the shop – am thinking carb cleaning / overhaul at at this time.

My thanks to all who responded.

Hats off to Mitch – well done!!

Now – lets look at the article and those of similar nature…

Notice that the writer calls these scum bags “fisherman”. These guys are theives – pure and simple. Media people: Why do you “play nice” w/ these types. Call them what they are. THEIVES.

Fisherman, Hunter – they are honorable terms for honorable activity. Please get it right and write it that way.

My daughter got a notice to appear for jury duty selection (county level – MN)….in the past when I had gotten a notice and had schedule conflicts, I wrote the county a letter – explaining my conflict (ie work trip), and asked to be MOVED to another time slot. No problem – they did it. I still did the duty – but at a time where it fit.

My daughter is in a grad school program at the U of M. Some of the classes she needs are offered once a year. She asked to be postponed for the same reason (schedule conflict – her classes), and the county said no.

Now – if she registers for classes – hoping to not be selected for a trial – and then is, there goes $1300 in tuition money (and this comes out of her pocket). On the other hand, if she doesn’t register for classes, and then isn’t drawn, she could still be screwed w/ regards to when she can complete her program.

The “ramp” at Willow (if you can call it that) was intended for carry in – canoes, kayaks, etc. Yes – there is black top going down there – but that is to assist the folks in wheel chairs getting to the dock.

Look closely – and see that the black top curves away from the water, and once it does, the ground drops away sharply from the paved area – also notice the rocks at the waters edge.

There is plenty of other water available for boats that need trailer lanching.

Mapquest’s images look like those that Google Earth is using.

The images that Terra Server has were done in the early 90’s – if you think back a ways, there were all sorts of big white + marks painted on the roads – saw them all over SE Mn at the time. There is one on a Olmsted Cty rd west of the Roch airport, but its been there a couple of years now, so some agency wanted a new photo me thinks.

If you dig long enough thru DNR and the state of MN web sites, there are some downloadable images – by county of very detailed photos…. the name NAIP or something similar comes to mind. You need special to view the images. The software was also available. These were much better than Terra Server, Google Earth, etc.

Actually, I did stop there – just didn’t mention it…. I learned of the contest from a gent while I was at Wild Goose.

I stopped at Coyote Creek, got it weighed on their scale (29.6#), they snapped a pic, and I was on my way…

Also heard a rumor that Gander Mtn is having a big bird contest…don’t have any hard knowledge on that one….

    Tom

Had a similar experience years ago – I was up on small flat, had a hen and Tom down in the creek bottom – The Tom was strutting. I knew, same as you, that to get to the Tom, I had to get the hen to “come”. I called her in, she was so close when I last looked at her that I could see the hairs on her eyelids when she blinked…..

Tom never budged, he stayed where he was strutting…..

    Argh!!
