a few years ago Yanmar was the largest diesel manufacturer in the world. I’m surprised that Cub Cadet has the resources to buy them.

Good luck out there Red Lab.
Kooty, you could have lied to me and told me the snow melted at least then I would have had 1 positive report.
I will be on the Croix near Bayport tomorrow morning.
December 17, 2009 at 1:23 am #72545From what I have noticed on about 15 different work vehicles is that most of the failuers occur between 80-120K. After that they would hit 250-300K with minimal repairs, just basic maintinance. I myself am done buying new, my next vehicle will be a couple years old and let someone else take the main depreciation hit.
December 4, 2009 at 8:43 pm #71280I had to laugh at that one Kooty. This year was the first time I shot at a deer more than 40 yds. away (I sit in my bowstand for rifle hunting). Needless to say it wasn’t pretty, it took 7 shots to get him down. When I skinned him he was full of small pieces of my bullets, a .270 doesn’t go through heavy brush at 150 yds. very well aparantly. The deer probably thought he was being bittin by mosquitos.
December 4, 2009 at 7:57 pm #71271“lighten up” may not have been the best choice of words but I am beyond fed up with “Do Nothing Right” club that I am almost numb to it. I’m still trying to warm up to the idea of hunting deer in the middle of a grass field in SD, not sure if I can do that.
December 4, 2009 at 6:58 pm #71269I feel that if you really want to put a dent in it you need to hurt their budget. With the proposed changes I know I won’t be spending nearly as much on licenses in WI next year, I’m just going to start going out of state more or hunt less. FYI I have been writing for the past several years and speaking with our rep when he comes out to the gun club I shoot at. Hopefully license sales will be way down next year and they take notice. My previous post was also meant to be sarcastic, lighten up a bit, life is too short.
December 4, 2009 at 5:10 pm #71262I don’t like this posting one bit. I got all excited thinking that someone finally did something and got rid of some of the bad decision makers when all they are doing is talking about it. Way to bring me down.
December 4, 2009 at 4:24 pm #71256I’m not sure who has the answer. I know they are trying to exterminate them in the southern zones because of CWD. That will happen soon enough though, there are finally wolves down there and my sister saw them take a fawn during the rifle season. We had OK deer numbers but now we’ll have to wait and see what happens with the wolves down there now. Hopefully it will be open season on them soon.
December 4, 2009 at 3:58 pm #71252Insurance companies don’t have anything to do with the deer herd. They treat it the same as any other natural occuring incident. Live in a county with higher deer car accidents you pay higher rates, live in an area with hurricanes you pay higher rates for that. It is much more cost effective for them to look at the data and adjust rates than to have lawyers working with each state to try and reduce the animal causing the problem. They would have to reduce the deer, turkeys, pheasants in SD, something in every state across the country. It wouldn’t make sense and would cost everyone more in the long run.
December 3, 2009 at 10:40 pm #71170It was in Pierre’s newspapers web site that it failed. Funny thing is I saw someone advertising their late season hunting on CL and they said they had passed. I think I will beleive the newspaper though. Oh well, I’m still going, hopefully this colder weather will help things freeze up.
December 1, 2009 at 8:39 pm #70819They recommend not cutting the bones as the disease affects the nervous system. Lockers will bone out the deer completely, I’m not that paranoid and haven’t had any issues. They used to require a sample but now they just ask for it and only do it during rifle season where I hunt, not enough bow deer come in at once to make it worth their time.
November 30, 2009 at 6:57 pm #70665The Dakotas have had so much rain this year and last it’s no wonder the ducks love it over there. My last few trips that direction I’d see flooded corn fields with tons of green heads swimming around the corn stalks picking up corn. It’s like having the refrigerator and microwave next to the couch and TV, no need to go anywhere else.
November 28, 2009 at 2:39 am #70516I was doing some work around the farm the last couple days until almost dark and didn’t see anything flying. I am located directly across from St. Croix Bluffs park on the WI side of the St. Croix river. I usually see some geese at least heading south along the river, I have until the 12th for geese but after a call tonight I may be heading out to SD for roosters in the next week or so.
November 25, 2009 at 5:55 pm #70293I just checked and here in WI our season is already over That just leaves me with geese for a couple more weeks, I’m already getting nervous that I am running out of things to chase.
November 19, 2009 at 9:32 pm #69359I have a MR. Heater brand power vent and it works very well heating my garage. I have a 100lb propane tank inside that I use on it, my garage is 24X32. It was easy to install and I put an outlet plug on it to turn it on and off. Just make sure you don’t run the thermostat wire next to the power wire, the thermostat doesn’t like it (I went through 3 of them before I figured it out). I think mine is 65K BTU’s.
November 19, 2009 at 9:27 pm #69358I don’t like EAB because the deer numbers are already too low where we hunt. In the past we (the land owners) managed the number of deer we shot, we took a couple does per group for the food and that was it. Now everyone has to shoot their own doe in order to be able to take a buck. It has hurt the deer herd numbers where I and many others hunt.
November 12, 2009 at 12:39 am #67678Here are a couple pics from my trip to SD. Weather was great, hunting was great, dogs worked extremely good, everyone had a good time. Things weren’t that wet where we hunted, I wore my hiking boots all weekend and my feet stayed dry, but my truck was getting a little muddy. I hope that all this rain doesn’t turn into snow for late season or I may not make it back out.
October 28, 2009 at 1:14 am #65124I hunt about 30 miles from the river, are there many snakes north of Mobridge? I’ve never seen one but I may not go back if I do run into any.
October 27, 2009 at 12:43 am #64918My stands are usually 8-15 feet in the air. I hunt very hilly terrain and it is very steep, if a deer is uphill I could be 30 feet up and it would be looking straight at me. I just try and get above the underbrush for a better shot.
October 16, 2009 at 12:11 pm #63572The crops haven’t even started to come out where I go in the north central part of the state. I would try going the first or second weekend in November, I just wouldn’t go during their deer season (that may be the second weekend in November not sure though). Otherwise early December should be a good time also, my second trip out there is over new years typically. Call the SD fish and game and they will mail you an atlas of the hunting areas. I’ve hunted public around Aberdeen and found that it was best to drive about an hour or so away from the city to get into better public land, anything close and it was pounded pretty hard. Later in the season I don’t even mess around with the light cover I head straight for the thick stuff like cattails.
October 15, 2009 at 8:06 pm #63502I haven’t been doing much at work and when I do decide to do something I’ve been doing really badly but my boss still won’t lay me off for a couple months. Instead he thought it would be a good idea to hire someone to help me
October 14, 2009 at 10:21 pm #63358Not chasing any birds this weekend:( Planning on being on the Croix chasing eyes one last time and then winterizing the boat and getting everything else done. This is the last weekend I’ll be in town until Dec. 5th weekend. Lots of hunting coming up though.
October 12, 2009 at 9:40 pm #63015I will be bear hunting next fall, does anyone have any experience, good or bad, with these on bears? I just started using them this year and have not shot anything yet and hence have no experience with them. Will they penetrate the fat and hide ok? My typical bear shots are about 15 yards.
October 12, 2009 at 9:30 pm #63014The thing that I go by is the first ingredient since that is the main one, or largest percentage (you get the idea). If the first ingredient is corn I keep looking for something that a protien (like chicken for the food that I use) first on the list. I do also compare the break down of everything. Like Big G I also feed a lot less depending on how much work the dogs are doing. I am always watching their weight to make they are not too fat or skinny.
October 9, 2009 at 1:27 am #62532I must be cheap but I shoot Easton 2315’s, I had about 15 of them left when I purchased my bow last year and decided to keep using them. I’m trying the rage 2 blade this year so we’ll see how it goes. It looks like I’ll be switching to carbon when I need more arrows since I don’t even see the Al’s anymore.
October 7, 2009 at 3:47 pm #62227I think this weekend is Sat Sunday only but next weekend is Thurs.-Sun. Double check the rule to be sure though.
October 6, 2009 at 11:59 pm #62094That’s too bad….. send me the GPS coordinates and I’ll put the poor guy out of his misery.
