    Excellent review

I wish “they” could host one of those challenges in south central MN
I still have 30 some days to test out the 55 before I have to return it(for my full refund)
Marcums are next on the list

when I go laker fishing I just take my 5500’s off my summer rods and use those. They work great and you gotta have a good drag, with a wide gap for the line feeder so the line fits through it with snow

your exactly right james I fish the same way punch a bunch then search them out but once I locate those fish I prefer to use the 9 degree cone( in deeper water) when I’m fishing for them not looking for them- big difference and a whole nother subject

when searching for them over any peice of structure deep or shallow I use the wide angle 90% of the time but I’ll tell if your on a steep break in some deep water using that 19 degree beam its not acurate because on either side of that cone is several and sometimes even more feet of depth change and the return signal isn’t coming back at the same time

WOW I’m replying to myself it must be too cold for me to ice fish

HB customer service said use the 19 degree beam in shallow water (so I asked them what do they consider shallow and they stated under 20 feet) and the 9 degree in deep water

    deluxe 247

I didn’t want to cause any riffles I just want people to enjoy their investment as much as I enjoy mine. I’m just trying to help out sorry for the confusion my apologies

this is what works for me shallow = wide

    deep= narrow

why would you want to use the wide angle transducer in deep water say you were fishing in 25 feet of water using your 19 degree cone that is a huge amount of water that your transducer is trying to read

hANG ON i’M GOING TO CALL HB MYSELF

I disagree deluxe247 I think you have it backwards

the box says” choose the frequency and coverage of your sonar to cast a wider net, focus on the bottom, or to change frequencies to ……

Select the 240 khz beam for a wider 19 degree coverage area to detect more fish, choose the narrower, 9 degree 455khz beam for greater resolution and detail in deeper water”

not really in 10 feet of water there isn’t that much difference in the diameter of the cone (several feet of cicumfurance at best) but if I’m on a steep break in 10 foot of water then I will use the 9 degree

I use the wide beam as much as possible
the narrow beam I use when I am on a sharp break – this enables me to get a true feel for the bottom for instance in deep water with a sharp break the end of each cone is reading different depths
other than that I try always to use the wide beam

what is your gain set at I was in 26 feet of water with a shrimpo and waxworm and my gain was on 6

is your transducer plugged in all the way in back

I’m sure your transducer is level enough I don’t that’s the problem maybe it is the transducer itself

I don’t have to wait for Burntside anymore got on a school of crappies and they were kind enough to stick around and let me play with my 55 while they were underneath. The hb 55 performed well in every aspect. Even tried it with the float cable on as well as off (which I prefer)

no problems here for the 55 love it
as far as not seeing your jigs on the flasher itself turn your gain way down first not up
and I didn’t use the level do hinky or the float
the true test is in Feb on Buntside when I fish for lakers thats when the bells and whistles should come in handy
