What’s next, no peeing in the woods?

Don’t give them any ideas. Anything is possible with the leadership in this state.

Z103 out of Fergus Falls might be the best classic rock station I’ve ever found. They play a lot of deep tracks. They have an app and I stream it on my phone and in my truck.

Here is a photo of what I am working with. I am using four u-bolts to attached the wood to the carrier and they are not installed in this photo.

FYI – the Harbor Freight carrier is not made to tight tolerances. It will work for my application, but it is not the greatest. However, it was on sale for $47.

    Mr. W:

I have a 2021 570. I purchased an adjustable hitch receiver from Hornet. It is part number U-6043. This fits directly to the 1 1/4 hitch on the Sportsman. I purchased the same HF rack you posted. I added a 1/2 plywood base the HF carrier. When I put my Fish Trap Scout on the rack I only get about 1″ of squat. I have not done any adjustments to the rear suspension. This is a new set-up and I will see how it performs in the winter. I am only using the carrier for my Fish Trap. All other gear will go on the ATV racks. Polaris lists maximum tongue weight as 135 lbs and I am well under that number. Will post a pic when I can – hopefully this weekend.

Here is the link to the Hornet product.

    1. Loud augers with dull blades.

    2. People. Two years ago, my friends and I set up two wheel houses about 40 feet apart on Mille Lacs. We didn’t have another house within a half mile of us. We left to go fish some other parts of the lake. We came back in the afternoon and a group parked their wheel house right between us. Loud people and three dogs that would not leave us alone. To top it off, they drilled holes right next to my house. When I mean right next to the house I am talking about a foot or less. We had a talk with the owner of that house and he said that is how they do it where he is from. He had no shame. We were not on structure, just a huge gravel to mud transition area.

The only reason I have the wheel house is to sleep on the ice. I don’t party, but most of the wheel house people are out to rip it up. I am getting rid of mine and trying to work on more trips to remote places.

I built an 8 x 18 wheelhouse with spray foam insulation. I have a 20,000 BTU Suburban forced air. One duct up front and I ran another to the middle of the house. I’ve spent many nights on the ice with temps below -20 and never had an issue.

If I were in your spot, I’d stick with the 25,000 and not have to worry about it. If you have a family the best way to keep them out on the ice is to keep them warm and comfortable.

Nice to see some ice talk in August!

Crow River Marine in Delano. Terry has repaired two outboards for me, including a 1994 Evinrude. I have several friends that have had work done there and everyone leaves happy.

I paid in. They had no problem depositing my check less than one week after I mailed it.

A coworker is still waiting for his 2019 refund. He filed his return on time. He has spent over a year trying to get an answer.

I’ve been running the same 2200 Honda for 11 years. I change the oil every 90 hours. I’ve never had oil look like that. Did you run the generator on the ground? If you do, it will melt snow under the generator and water will get in the crankcase.

Hey Pessimist, any chance you have a supplies list for that?

    Thanks!

Kyle Wills – sorry, I was out-of-town and not watching this forum. Here is what I have:

    1. Bubble Box – ordered from Amazon, but can find at FF, Scheels, etc.
    2. Fuel line for small engines – this is the yellow tubing.
    3. Weighted air stone – available at most outdoor stores.
    4. Hose clamps to store tubing.
    5. Piece of composite deck board I had in the garage.
    6. D Batteries for power.

I installed a BedTred Ultra liner in my current truck. It has worked very well for me and no regrets. That product has been replaced by the BedRug Impact liner. I will definitely install one in my next truck.

Another vote for the Plano All Weather cases. They had the 36″ on sale at FF for $36 on Black Friday. They work great and at a much better price than the dedicated ice rod cases.

I will also say go with ICNuts. I replaced my winches with their products. Solid construction and the gearing makes it so much easier to crank up the house. Shipping was lightening fast as well.

Last year, I purchased the Helix 7. The purchase was made primarily to run Lakemaster in the winter. I like using the sonar as well. I did not sell my flashers. There are certain situations where I prefer the flasher. More importantly, I like to have back up units. A few years ago I went on a long weekend trip. A friend broke his flasher on the first day. His trip was basically over since we were targeting finicky panfish. I usually go to Canada at least once per winter and bring three sonar units.

The only remaining streaming option for FSN is AT&T Now at $80/month.

At some point the contracts will be renewed with the streaming services. My guess is once hockey/basketball seasons start.

FYI, Gillespie is now posting his shows on YouTube at the same time they air on FSN. More and more outdoor shows are putting their episodes on YT.

Are you looking for something to use when fishing out of a portable or a hard side?

I use a larger gas grill for the wheelhouse. I purchased a Coleman Fold and Go for fishing out of the portable early and late ice. Have not used it yet, but it was recommended and not very expensive on Amazon.

I have had zero issues with the K-drill in 36″ or more of ice.

I have the Milwaukee heated hoodie. I chose it over the vest so I can take advantage of the hood when the wind is bad (the hood is not heated, just the back and chest areas). It works very well. I bring three batteries in the boat so I don’t have worry about running out of juice on the coldest days.

Call Fish Lectronics. Their repairs are very reasonable. They also carry new and factory reconditioned units if you need to get a new one. I got great pricing on my last two trolling motors I purchased from them.

I have two friends that had transoms replaced at Shipwreck. Both are very happy with the quality of the work and the fact that the work was done right after dropping off the boats in Princeton. I’ve inspected both boats and composite material is used and the work looks like it was done with care. Both of my friend are very happy.

For live TV you can’t beat it. Fox Sports North is included. My only complaint is it is owned by Google so instead of “learning” my viewing habits (primarily Fox News) it keeps trying to steer me to CNN, MSNBC, YTT. Maybe I’m just a grumpy conspiracy theorist but I swear it happens. Any others experience this?

Eye – If you create a custom channel guide and remove those channels you should not have them appear as an option on the home screen. I removed several channels from the guide and the app never tries to steer me to the channels I removed. Every night at 7:00 it notifies me that Tucker Carlson is starting. grin

For those that like outdoors programing, but don’t want to spend a lot of money I’d suggest FrndlyTV. It is a small 15 channel streaming service that includes Outdoor Channel, Sportsman Channel and World Fishing Network. Price is $5.99/month. I could care less about the other 12 channels.

I was scheduled for a trip in Ontario from June 19-25. I just received notification from the resort. They have been informed from the provincial government that the border will remain closed until June 21 and possibly longer. They are allowing guests to re-book for later in the summer (no guarantee the border will be open) or next year. Disappointing, but expected.

I had Fish Lectronics repair a Minnkota a few years ago. They got it done quickly and I thought the price was very fair.

I’ve started buying Permethrin by the cart load. Have my “working in the woods clothes” that are treated regularly.

Same here. I started treating my clothes with Sawyer Permethrin about six or seven years ago. Makes a huge difference. I very rarely find ticks on my clothes and have not found any on my skin since doing this. I treat my boots, socks, pants, t-shirt, long sleeve shirt and hat. I apply more than is recommended. I also know people that spray the seats in their vehicle.

I am in the woods a lot this time of year looking for mushrooms. If I am driving more than an hour from home I will take off the clothes I wore in the woods and place them in the bed of my truck for the drive home. If there is a tick on the clothing it has less of a change to get onto my skin if I am not wearing the clothing.

When I return home, I take the clothes I wore in the woods and hang them in the garage. I think the neighbor lady likes to see me run from the garage to the house in my skivvies. When inside I go straight to the bathroom and check for ticks. Next, I jump in the shower. I’ve read that sometimes the fast moving hot water from the shower head can knock off a tick before it attaches.

I hope everyone has a safe spring and summer in the outdoors.

One thing I learned years ago about frozen pizza is the method used to cook it. I purchased a pizza oven – stainless steel type that are found in bars. When I make a Heggie’s in the pizza oven it tastes great. In my kitchen oven – not so great. It really makes a difference in getting the crust and cheese done perfectly.

Another pie not listed and not included in the bracket is 7th Ave. Solid frozen pizza that reminds me of going to the original Red Savoy in St. Paul.

Mike, did you get the lithium or corded model? I recently purchased the lithium. I feel it is kind of weak. I have used other corded knives that I feel are faster and more powerful.

The biggest debate I’ve had with other Helix owners is whether to run the Switchfire mode in Max or Clear. I have not used the unit in depths deeper than 25 feet, but I like clear mode. I have a friend that is convinced you have to use Max mode – his basis is on a YouTube video. I do notice a lot of interference around his unit. I am curious what others think.

I have a 28 with the Pro View. One thing I’ve noticed over the years is the lack of interference with the Pro View. This past weekend I was in a hub with a friend that had an LX3. Zero interference for both units.

I own and use MarCum, Vex and a Helix. If I am going to be fishing in a house with others I will always grab the 28 with Pro View.
