There a few nice spots a couple blocks East of there next to Mears Park on 6th Street. Barrio has awesome Mexican cuisine and good happy hour specials. The Bulldog is right next to it. It’s a decent sports type bar with tons of beer on tap. Again great happy hour specials. Enjoy!

It is definitely not as warm and cuddly as the first Cars, but my 6 year old son, his grandma, his mother and myself all enjoyed it. It was entertaining. Think of James Bond meets Mater.

Keep in mind I only shore fish for Flatheads and have done so for about the last 10 years or so. I’ve always hooked bullheads/suckers/chubs through the lips. I’ve never had a problem when hooking them that way (I can’t remember ever gut hooking a Flathead). I have caught lots of big fish over the years this way and concluded long ago that it works for me.

I say go with whatever you are most comfortable with and gives you the most confidence. There isn’t really a right or wrong answer here.

The bucket trap sounds like the real deal, I will just have to find a good place to put one.

By the way, what do you put into the bottom of your bucket traps?

I watched Dahlberg’s show Friday night for the first time, and all I can say is WOW! That big cat he caught down in South America was a monster. I don’t know where he got the strength to muscle that fish in. That was awesome! He was throwing out 2 pound live fish as bait. I will definitely watch that show again.

Thanks for the report Larry. It gives me something to smile about when I can’t be on the river as often as I would like. I love the pics!

Thanks Larry. You have the correct man. I have read posts on here for a while, but this was my first post. I will get down to the Mankato/New Ulm area at the end of May for my first flathead trip of the year. It is great they are already biting! I made a half-hearted attempt in the Mississippi near St. Paul last weekend and got skunked.

Nice Walleye Larry. That is a big one. Thanks for the pic. Good job with the tape measure for verification. I am going nuts in anticipation for flathead fishing!
