Go to Shields in Caterlics Bay. That is on the west side of the lake. Fished there last night and caught over 50 combined sunnies and crappies. read my report for more details.

TGIF,
Good tips….I am heading out to French at 6am this morning, looking for some eyes and some panfish….plan on fishing most of the day. Man I am really bit by the bug….finished up my finals and now is the time for ice fishing!
I will write a report when I get back!
December 16, 2003 at 3:10 pm #285310Yeah that is the bay that is next to the Gravel Road on the West side of the Lake.
September 27, 2003 at 3:58 am #257486Snagger,
Well I haven’t been to French in approximately three weeks and the water was low then but I got my 17ft Lund in there with no problems….I couldn’t drive my boat up on the trailer though because the water was so low. The water was low but getting the boat off the trailer was no problem. Solution bring a pair of waders if necessary but getting out onto the water shouldn’t be a problem.August 25, 2003 at 3:29 am #274125Went out on Thursday and Friday of last week. Thursday used some suckers on bobbers just for fun and no luck. Friday I went back to my trolling pattern that has worked so well for me this summer and my buddy caught his first Muskie ever. It went 32 1/2 inches…a small guy but a muskie is a muskie and this was his first one so that was fun to watch. Storm Deep Thundersticks trolled at approximately 2.2 to 2.8 mph worked in 10 to 25 feet have caught muskies this summer for me. All depends on the weather…wind, sun, fronts, etc…..Cisco color has been killing em this summer, wierd considering cisco’s aren’t in French but who knows? If you do cast make sure you spend your time working over the rock bars throughly. What I mean throughly might be different to you so what I mean is change lures, speeds, etc. It is not uncommon to try 15 to 20 casts in the same general spot that is a high percentage area. The water in French is stained and the strike zone on these fish is considerably smaller than a clearer water fish. So take your time and comb the area throughly. I will be out a couple more times this week and I will check in with some results. Good Fishing!
July 15, 2003 at 1:34 am #270627Dustin,
Thanks buddy…Haven’t talked to you in awhile hope everything is going well. I am planning on going over to the River tomorrow. I will try out your suggestions. I will report back my findings. Have a good one. Thanks again for your tips!
July 7, 2003 at 10:09 pm #270080How should I guy go about fishing the Cannon River from Cannon Falls to Welch? Wade or Float???? Where should I park if I wade and where are the best spots???? Any information would be helpful. Dad took the boat this week and has left me stranded and I was hoping to try something different.
April 15, 2003 at 4:41 pm #264203Josh,
Thanks for the tips…..I look forward to the fall….I have heard that from a lot of people that most of the land owners do not mind if you hunt their land as long as you ask first…of course!
April 15, 2003 at 2:45 am #264155Bill,
Glad to hear that you were able to get out this past weekend. I had to pay for me new tackle somehow….so I was stuck working but hopefully Friday of this week I will be able to get down to Red Wing. How did you do on the river this weekend? Was it the normal zoo?
April 15, 2003 at 2:43 am #264153Hawger,
Nice Bass! It is always nice to catch a mixed bag…keeps you on your toes. I don’t have school this Friday and hopefully the weather will cooperate for me…I think this might be one of the last opportunities for me to get down river until the middle of May….so Friday I have Pool 4 in mind. I will let you know how I do if I go.
Continued Success this season
April 12, 2003 at 11:58 pm #263938Thanks Steve,
I might just have to take you up on that offer. Once I can get all of this dang homework done. Being an upperclassmen at college has it’s postives and negatives. Thanks again for the offers….I will take you up on that sometime!
April 12, 2003 at 3:19 am #263910Steve,
I go to college at Stout and I actually have not yet fished the lake. I keep my boat at home in Northfield, MN during the school year and I am slowly but surely getting an ice fishing rig together but this up and coming year I am going to hit it pretty hard for panfish through the ice.
April 12, 2003 at 3:16 am #263909Hawger,
Great report…you got me so jealous right now!!! I start my first day at the golf course for the season tomorrow and I won’t be able to get out this weekend. Like I said before good report and I am extremely jealous!!!!
April 11, 2003 at 5:08 am #263844Yeah I got mine in that color. It is going to work out great for my tip-ups! I love free stuff….so if anybody has a free link to a new FREE Yamaha t8 four stroke let me know! lol!

When are you going to get out on the water? Between you, Hawger, and TGIF I am looking for some crappie reports since I can’t get out on the water this weekend. I want to know that someone is catching fish on my home water in Rice County???
Good Luck Boys,

April 11, 2003 at 5:02 am #263842Hawger,
I am looking forward to hearing how you did. I was going to get out this weekend on some of the Rice County Lakes but I have to work. As soon as I can get out again….I will post my results.

April 11, 2003 at 5:01 am #263841As far as the crawlers go. I have heard that if you bring in flats they either have to be in paper or you have to have them in that nitro worm bedding that turns your crawlers green. Just make sure that when you cross your crawlers are green. Has anybody else heard this?
April 11, 2003 at 4:57 am #263839As far as I am concerned there is only one outboard on the market these days! That is anything made by Yamaha! Everything else is just an engine and a prop waiting for your dissapointment….trust me I have a mercury! My buddy has a Yamaha and every chance I get I fish in his boat!

…60’s-70’s, sun, fish, What else in life is there ???? Jack..
Well let me think here?
Lund Boats, GLoomis Rods, Yamaha Motors…..Big Walleyes, Monster Pike, 2lb Crappies, Truck Loads of ringie’s, kalins, and doos! No more college exams…..many more college women! And another EFN in-depth angling video. Oh yeah…and a hundred million dollars….I think those things will keep me happy for awhile!
April 11, 2003 at 4:51 am #263837I like the idea of girls gone wild! I will leave the rest up to imagination!
April 10, 2003 at 9:33 pm #263787When I fish on the river, I bring a scoop of minnows just in case I don’t get bites on the plastics as a back up plan. You can always keep the minnows in the refridgerator when your done in a oversize minnow bucket. I would stick with the plastics and keep fishing them. Trust me they work!!!!

April 10, 2003 at 9:30 pm #263786Explorer 1675 SS, I got that same boat and I love it. It is a great boat for small to medium size lakes. You got a great boat, take care of it and have fun. First thing I did with mine was to take out the stock plug and replace it with an external one. I don’t perticularly care for the design of the internal plug. Maybe yours is different than mine. Anyways, nice boat and good luck fishing this season.

April 10, 2003 at 9:18 pm #263784I was wondering if any of you boys could tell some of my college professors that school is not as important as fishing on the river in the spring. That way maybe I could spent my weekdays fishing instead of studying.
Nice Fish and continued success

April 10, 2003 at 9:10 pm #263783James and Dustin,
What will the next video be? You know you addicted when you can’t wait for the next one to come out.
April 10, 2003 at 9:05 pm #263782James and Dustin,
I forgot to tell you…I am extremly jealous of all the plastics you got. My first paycheck from the golf course is going to plastics and plastics only. I hope to one day have as many as you guys!
April 10, 2003 at 9:02 pm #263781Lake Menomin Update, the lake is close to being totally ice free. Just checked it out today. I would say the sometime next week the ice will be gone. But remember that is just a guess.
Good Fishing
