I agree with the wood vs wire but for me I use wire. It’s faster and I have trouble getting my furs to look good on wood. It takes practice wire is just so easy.

Nice pics! Your coon numbers gone to nothing since the cold set in as well?
I picked up two nice boars today one in a trail set with a 220 and one in a DP across the road on the same trail. But yes it has slowed a lot lately.
down on something good. I know u still have that golden horse shoe stuck somewhere
I just let it hang with a fan over night and skin it the next day. And after I skin coyotes I wash them in either laundry detergent or dish soap. Then let it hang over night again before you put it on the stretcher.
Run them on short chains and drowners it should do just fine. Short chains will get them down and out faster.
Sounds like you should be stacking up the fur. I also have set a few areas this year that looks awesome full of sign and still yet to pull a coon off it. But maybe try some fish. I’ve noticed this year some coon want sweet smelling things and others just want plain fish. Good luck with the water trapping
The pelts are looking good not real prime yet. But no mange on the ones I have seen.

I laid a goose egg this morning. With these cold nights I have yet to have a hit on a marshmellow and sweet smelling baits. Everything so far is on salmon flavored cat food and fish oil.
I was skunked today also. I heard a rumor it was suppose to be warming up, and I hope it’s true. Coon dont move a ton when it’s 25 degrees right now.
Some of the coon are getting/ real close . As you can see the coon on the right was a big female and it is looking nice and white compared to the blue coon on the left
Just using cat food with fish oil and a marshmallow and a few of them I use cavens midnight runner it’s smells really sweet and 2 coon were in traps with that in it but I think just normal molasis would work just fine.

with the yotes on field edge sets like that how much backing do you go with? That is if any at all?
I am no expert on trapping coyotes by any means. But the sets that have worked here the trap is slightly lower then the lip of the dirt hole, and for backing I just take corn stalks with the root system still attached and set those behind the hole. I think it looks natural, the sets don’t have a lot of eye appeal to them at all. I took a small turkey feather on one set and stuck it in the backing so it blew just slightly. I don’t know if that is a good or a bad thing to do but it seem to have worked for me.

Just curious – Lure or bait?
I have been using cavens Hiawatha valley bait and a call lure but the label fell off last season and I can’t remember the brand but its a gland bass lure . I think the call lure really sparks up the curiosity . Ill try to find out what it is cause I want more myself.
The lure I have been doing is Mill creeks “long ranger” and I really like it

I mix up really dry dirt and a salt mixture during the summer and use that it’s sheds water pretty good
Can’t wait to get out. Finishing up my new fur shed this week and buying the Heater for it this weekend and ill be ready to pintch some furry critters
For the few sets I make a year as drowned sets I use wire, mostly on beaver sets. As for coon rats and mink I have a dozen traps rigged with cable and I use those around bridges and other high traffic areas to get the catch out of sight just a bit.
Do you guys actually think the buck will come back for another go?
That’s if they are over age either 16 or 18 I believe. I could be wrong but I think I have seen that some place. So if she was under the age limit she may have taken a 6 pointer
Dipping traps is applying a coat of dye, that prevents rust and adds a little camo to your trap. Its kind of like the bluing on your shot gun..
I have a relitive up there by ketchcan. He works in deep creek fishing (out of ninilchick) as a guide. Sounds like a great trip! Good luck!!
Been there before. it is no fun trying to find traps under a few feet of water, but its worse trying to do it when its fridgid cold out, it can be down right misserable
I have see it where someone was tresspassing and didnt know the camera was there, but after they saw it and knew it took a picture they pulled my card and deleted the picters of them off it. but they missed one and i confronted them about it. so maybe something simular happened to you. or maybe they wanted to see what was out roaming the land.but i hear you anyone messing with someone elses gear needs to get a life.
I like 1.5 coils because they are compact and easy to bed in pockets, they are also a bit easier to set I deeper water while standing I think, but I do have a number of #11you double jaw long springs and I like them also but I only run those on my drowning sets. Both types of traps hold animals extremly well, the coils do have a bigger catch area which is a plus for me. But it really comes down to a personal preferance.
