way to go mica………my money is on hoop nets/or any other kind of entrapment killing walleyes during these extreme warm water conditions. there very possibly caught in those nets for 8+hrs. not a very favorable condition for any game fish. everyone knows they how vunerable they are to hoop nets.

if u wanna get serious about killing these beetles, u need to find something like this chemical WARRIOR. sold only buy crop sprayers and dealers. only a tiny amount per gallon is needed and its a oily substance that stays on what u spray for maybe weeks. maybe a 8oz bottle would do u for the whole season. its like $300 a gallon, so u dont wanna waste any.
i used it on my giant pumpkins for vine borers and other gourds. i use the yellow/green traps also. last year i kept track on how many quarts of beetles i killed. we talking 8 gallons of dead beetles. magine how many new beetles that would produce the next year. but they just keep coming. i let my morning glories grow on fences and trees, they love them more than anything, then i spray them with the WARRIOR, it kills them within minutes of contact. now there may be other as good, i just dont know what it is but would be willing to try whatever its called. there here to stay and only getting worse.June 21, 2011 at 11:28 pm #975050i have the pk 100 from cabelas, its manufactured from ps seasonings in wi. its a great smoker, weighs 160#. i had a smaller one which was ok other than i needed more height to hang those 20″ sausages. uses saw dust as main feed with chips. it runs around $1300. will last me forever and very easy to clean. they have a 50# one also.
June 10, 2010 at 1:27 am #878696i was out monday and the river looked good. i dont recall seeing this much grass floating during june. keep the hooks clean and u can catch a slot or two and some eaters.
December 4, 2009 at 12:25 am #820359thats great news if its happening. from the very few times i fish tailwaters, theres seems to be a large %%%% of locals doing this. a few have been reported and checked. hey maybe they could borrow a national guard person to police the tailwater season. i’m sure they like that much better than their other options.
December 3, 2009 at 1:28 am #820039its really bad like big muddy says. and many of them reap the harvest from this great web info site. the last bust i know of at pool 14 dam, was either last year or year before when the dnr was on hiding inside those large pillers filming the spoonbillers. they got busted when they returned to the boat ramp. iknow there is a season on them, but have no clue when it is. too bad they can’t do alittle of this for the walleyes and baby saugers.
December 1, 2009 at 2:17 am #819456john, i’m all for the slots on both eyes and saugers. been way over due, closing off tail waters till at least april 15ish sure would help out the female eyes/saugers spawners. the dnr is so understaffed now john they don’t have any/little time to even think about checking fish limits and slot sizes. there be no way to police that one a season permit. i’ve been to tail waters twice this fall, no matter how many times u go, u see guys putting anything without a white tip on their tail in the box. in this case SIZE does not matter
March 31, 2009 at 2:40 am #764091thanks guy for the map info of smithville. hope to give the lake a try a couple times this summer.
March 8, 2009 at 7:26 pm #756006i’m in the process of trying to find a gps map of smithville reservoir lake. i have a gf living near there and she dont know a gps from a dna map i’m am planning a trip sometime there in may i hope. wanna take my boat and fish the lake with her. mostly be lookin for crappie/gill fishing with her. have no idea whats stocked in the lake. i’m not a bass fisherman for sure. i checked the lake maps advertised on this site and they never heard of smithville or even missouri i think. i use to buy hotspots maps, but i think they went out of business. any good ideas as to were i might find a decent map of the lake?
March 7, 2009 at 10:59 pm #755940i’ve been looking myself this month. i have yet to find anyone that can touch AIG. i live in eastern iowa, i want to because of the way they handled their business and we bailed them out once or twice. i had two minor claims with no other auto involved and they jacked my price up $200 per year. even at that i’ve check and check and can’t find anyone who can touch them. if anyone and i mean anyone can show me someone, i would dump them even if they are about the same prices. i type my zipcode into the greatautoinsurance web site and AIG doesn’t even show up. in fact i have no local sales reps in my area, but they have adjusters hired in all areas to check out ur claims. so anyone whom would like to show me u can better AIG auto insurance prices, by all means email me here and we will make contact.
November 30, 2008 at 2:38 am #725014not only do they keep the illegal small eyes, i know a couple that keep slot fish tooo. they dont give a rats about the regulations. they are there to fill there buckets or live wells with as many as possible. the dnr is more worried about someone having a extra canadian duck or goose then our local walleyes. besides they don’t have enough dnr people to cover fishing waters during any hunting seasons. need more people to step up with there cell phones and report them before they get off the water. i understand that if u get caught with one wild goose over ur limit its $400+. why not do this for our local eyes. that walleye is alot better eating than that wild goose or duck. on another point, does anyone know about a 14# walleye being caught in the maquoketa river the last weekend. i understand it was in a cedar rapids paper or radio/tv station. a friend of mine from cedar rapids told me today. asking him to send me the web site to back this up. thats a amazing fish for that river.
November 26, 2008 at 3:26 am #724492for those whom might be thinkin about fishin pool 14 tail waters wednesday, might wanna know they lowered the rollers for the winter months this morning or last nite sometime. not usually a good sign for tailwater fishing.
March 3, 2008 at 4:02 am #661173congrats are in order to one of our members. won’t mention his name, hopefully he will post his pool 16 , 30inch,12#9oz eye he caught and released on saturday march 1st. i personally have seen the beauty in my emails. a true gentleman and sportsman.
November 27, 2007 at 5:52 pm #627519thanks john, i wasn’t sure about the il. ia. regulations, i just remembered the 2004 tailwater regulations. have u heard anything or anyone heard if they are going to continue this. i still having a hard time understanding why they don’t do this with all lock and dams. its working in these 3 pools and with all the more fishing pressure every year, it can only improve the quaility of fish. they got my vote and everyone else i know who are sportsman about fishing limits and slot sizes. GO VIKINGS, i wish we had Bret Farve.
November 26, 2007 at 11:56 pm #627316i’ve been trying to answer that too, i’m sure ur pool and pool 14 all came into affect the same time, i thought this was the 3 rd yr, but someone told me it started in 2003. i got a bet here, so anyone know for sure
October 22, 2007 at 5:35 pm #618634thanks luke, u saved us a trip. the guys would rather fish mcbride. never had much luck there with size. don’t like to keep any crappies under 10″ anywhere, which is hard at mcbride usually at least my last 2 trips. i’m sure the mcbride water is clean. have to regroup. pool 14 looks like everyone from mn/wi threw all there grass clippings in the river. another week and should be good to go
August 27, 2007 at 11:00 pm #6036503way, the reason u couldn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’t find BOTTOMLINE Computrol in Idaho anymore, they have been bought out by Johnson Outboards and are located in Alabama now.
July 31, 2007 at 2:41 am #595490eyehunter, we had pretty much had the same luck. the few eaters we did have were gourged with shad. between the moon phase and shad, i thinkin they very happy eating at nite…………..
July 24, 2007 at 12:40 am #593201we could post a poll and see whom guesses the deadly weapon. i’ll guess a spinner bait.
July 20, 2007 at 12:50 am #592167i’m curious as to why they even let u fish pool 2. no matter how many u throw back, what are the odds of that fish dying anyway. those swallowed barbs/trebles take there toll. those large eyes slam those hooks. if u don’t cut the line they die. one option would be use barbless hooks. i’ve never seen pool 2 but i assume it must be rather small. i spend alot of time on pool 14 and i’ve never seen a dnr on this pool either. once in awhile the coast guard shows , but not till after that jetski/bassboat crash.
July 14, 2007 at 2:57 am #590145speakin of jet skis, saturday the 7th sometime in the later part of the day. there were a group of people from around the chicago area. some had bass boats and one or more had jet skis. this would be on pool 14 between albany and camanche. they were doing their wild and crazy jumping waves in front of the balls to the walls bass boat when something went wrong and the bass boat ran over the jetski and driver. which later died at the hospital. its bad enough u kill someone, but they were all freinds i understand. how would u like to live with that the rest of ur life. tonights paper is the first time i seen anything about the accident, and of course alcohol was involed. very very sad ending to a wonderfull july 4th weekend.
June 18, 2007 at 12:01 am #581378i bet ur sis had a great time john. didn’t make it out today. saturday i started early and quit by 9am. my prize fish of the morning was a bronze back 15 3/4″ long. have no idea what it weighed, but really great to see our pool supporting them. she/he looked like a football, i thought sure i had my first trophy eye, wow what a fun fish to catch. wished i had a camera along but maybe catch her another day. caught on a wing dam with jig/leech combo.
June 16, 2007 at 12:01 am #581074i was out this am and we had more than our share of shad flys floating. the surface was coated with them. a first for me today, was seeing a greeny come to the surface and gulp some larva rite along side my boat. by 10am the larve disappeared. not all fish were gourged on shad flies. had 3 nice slot greenies and two for shore lunch. what more can u ask for……….well ok i’m not going there never had anyone cut in front of me or crowd me today. just a great day on the water.
June 14, 2007 at 1:58 am #580456hey i tried… . maybe alford left someone behind. sure hope they don’t do the same to me while my partner is along, i be bailing my partner out of jail. maybe we can get a picture and post it.
June 14, 2007 at 12:22 am #580430hey john, must have been a il. boat………….lol. u know no ia. guys would do that kind of stuff
April 3, 2007 at 5:26 am #556178i seen a 10# eye after it was caught thursday in pool 14. she looked like she was in the process of spawning, her tail fin was tattered, but still had a belly full. she was released back to finish making more lil piggies. caught in very shallow water, 2/3 fow. nice to see some of those piggies released back. good job guy, u know who u are……….
