Good post Ben. Sherman has always been a known fishery around nebraska fisherman (always will be). I still dont believe sherman (or any other nebraska lake) is going to top big mac as the trophy walleye fishery.

There was an article many years ago about pelican being a premeir bluegill lake and that did bring alot of out of state fisherman in (no one that owned a bussiness in valentine will gripe about that) and the gills did get harder to find (some say extinct) but, i beliee it was more local people (in state?) than out of state folks that ruined the gill fishing there. I know of a lot of people that kept a lot of 1.5-2 lb gills out of there that were locals, it wasnt the nationwide attention that wiped out the gills(for the most part). There is no way that one arcticle in a magazine about sherman being the top trophy reservoir in the state will bring in as many people as the refuge lakes did with the world class panfish that were once abundant.

I like sherman just the way it is. If someone wants to catch wipers, go to any reservoir other than sherman. Wipers are fun to catch, but sherman is a great fishery, and there is no need to jeopordize it with a massive predator like a wiper. I know of no research that shows wipers doing damage to a lake, but if its not broke dont fix it.

I had a great year and i enjoyed every minute (except dragging sleds up the hill at kirwin). Hope to do it more this summer.

Was a great time thats for sure. I am very glad those wipes came around because it was rather slow for the crappies but once we figured out a pattern for those wipers it was game on..

It would be a great time, but its a long way to drive for me especially if the fish are biting.

Thats a good deal chad! I got6 mine ealier this year from cableas for 179. I was in omaha all weekend and stopped by there and they did have some great deals, but had nothing i needed, so i left there with little.

Thoughts have crossed my mind about heading there this weekend, along with many other possible lakes. I Dont know alot about lil mac, have only fished it a couple of time out of my lil boat. Gueess it will be something new to learn about if i do make it there this weekend.. Hope there is plenty of good ice cuz ill prolly be drilling a sheet load of holes.

Yeah, hopefully there is enough ice to jet across the lake on the three wheelers. Sounds like there will be 6 ida members up there and 5 three wheelers . Hopefully we can find some fish. Im thinking ill just have greg lean over the back of the wheeler while im driving, and ill just dump water out and he can shoot through the ice with the vex .. Best thing i can come up with to cover lotsa water .

Isnt 7 the lake they killed off and put the wipers in? Cant remmember the numbers out there to save my life. greg and i drove through there last sunday and the ice looked questionable so we passed. If that is the lake im thinking, i would imagine those trees on the southwest side would be the ticket, but being its on the west half of the pond, it may not ahve safe ice on there.

i dont have chains for my wheeler either, but ill just keep the rpms up so high its bound to go somewhere

I could release the gills at my feet it the fishtrap and they could swim/flop in the 2″ of water that was on top of the ice inside the shanty right into the hole,, im worrried for next weekend

i just got a big red 250. it should be able to haul some stuff, if the fishing is slow, we can chase greg around on the ice or sumthing lmao j/k greg
