Maybe they could make it weather proof. How many times have your had you copy get soaked in the boat/rain/snow?? Maybe just the suggested slot “cheat sheet” could be laminated or something.

1995 Waubonsie Valley HS in Aurora, IL “Wayne’s world” 10 year reunion this weekend. “party time excellent”
July 25, 2005 at 5:28 pm #374688The wife, lily, and Myself thank you for the compliment I DA. Good luck to you if the HM cabin did it’s magic. I thought that EJ was walking kind of funny when I got there Saturday morning.
I had a great time both days with everyone I got to see agian. Every year I get-to-know people even better at the get-to-gether, sounds like a pitch for next year. Anyway Thanks to James and the crew for setting up a great ARM event and GTG.
Also, James thank you for the heroics witht the pliers and string. For those of you that didn’t hear, I was fishing from shore and caught a Northern. I didn’t have pliers on me and Bill Cadwell said that he had them in his boat. So as I was walking to use them to remove my lure, the fish shook and I got my left index finger hooked. It went past the barb and so I was now conected to the fish. I spent about 2-3 minutes trying to figure out how to hold the fish still, get the treble out, and get the fish loose. After no luck I started to holler for some help but not very loud since, (While all of this is happening the littles are comming back in for lunch). I happend to see James walking to the piers to help bring in boats. I let out another yell but by this time I am getting weak and sounded funny. From what I was told I was white as a ghost. Anyway James comes over and asks what’s up I said I am hooked and he sees that I wasn’t just talking about the fish. He gets the fish off and back in the water, cuts the line, and we start to walk to a bench so I can sit. I start to get woozie and need to stop after a step. I breathe deep and try agian. I continue to walk toward the tents and then my ears fill up. I can bearly hear I feel drunk but I focus on getting to the tents and breathing. I get to the tent where everyone is eating lunch and I reallize I need to hide this so I don’t scare the kids. I tuck the lure, still in my finger, under my arm and walk to the end of the tents and sit. James comes over and clips the treble of the lure. Then he proceeds to snip off the other hooks, then he takes out a string loops it around the hook in my finger and yanks. But not having much sense of reality at this point, I bent my finger with the tug. So James reminds me to keep my finger straight and the 1..2..pull and it pops out with very little pain. I also thank the ladies whom helped cool me down with water and took care of my wound. Now it is all healed up and I was able to have a great time the next day with everyone at the GTG.
Thanks to the gentleman whom let me join him after the rain for some trolling, I’m sorry I forgot your name, but I enjoyed getting out on the water vs. sitting on shore.
Thanks to everyone!

July 12, 2005 at 3:50 pm #372628I will do what I am needed to do James. SteveO I had a great time with you last year and I didn’t know if you were comming this year so I will join you if I am not needed elsewhere. I know that the river is is low up in St. Paul so we might have the sand bar again this year, maybe we will stick to the dam???
July 12, 2005 at 2:06 pm #372599Like last year I would like to help out, but I have no boat. I am willing to entertian any offers for an extra seat to help with the littles, if there are any extra seats. Otherwise I can help with the on shore prep for lunch, docking, etc. I had a great time last year and I have been planning on helping out, even taking the day off 6 months in advance to make sure I can be there to support the kids.
For those of you that are thinking about helping but don’t know if you can make time, make the time. You are helping out kids that need a good influence, and the kids are great. The littles that were there last year were some of the most well behaved kids. They don’t want to be put on the big fish as much as they just want to catch something, sheepy, bass, carp, rock bass, walleye. Whatever you can do to get out of work, do it the kids will feel great and so will you.

May 28, 2005 at 7:26 pm #365254In the Eagle River area Catfish and Cranberry lakes are good for panfish, walleye, and muskie/northerns. My family had gone to a resort on Cranberry for years and we fished those waters mostly. There are a few good guides that would be worth the extra $ for a day or two of placement on the area lakes. We went up a couple of years ago after a long break and had a guide for a few days. It helped us find the fish that had moved from where they had been years before. Good luck to you!
May 28, 2005 at 1:12 pm #365242This is the spot that I am looking at going to since it is close to the nursing home and it has a pretty good sized area for picnic and water access
Location: St. Paul, at Hidden Falls Regional Park, just south of Ford Parkway.
Species available: Bluegill, Crappie, Catfish, Northern Pike, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, White Bass, Walleye, Carp, and many others.
Restrooms: Yes.
Parking: Good.
Picnic: Yes.
Comments: This is an excellent summer fishing spot. Fish with corn or worms to catch carp and freshwater drum. Several good fishing locations are upstream from the parking lot. Cast to where the river’s current is slowed by rocks, logs, or underwater humps. Use enough weight to hold the bait down on the river bottom in the strong current. This is a suggested spot by the DNR for good shore fishing.
I hope they are right.May 28, 2005 at 12:19 pm #365239The rods and reels could be either donations or rentals for the day. The hours that we are looking to go out would be about
10:00 departure from the home
11:15 start fishing after unloading the van
12:30 picnic lunch
1:00 fishing till about 2:30 or 3:00
depending on the crowd, restroom needs, weather, and if the bite is on.If anyone lives in the minneapolis area and has a great shore fishing spot, it doesn’t have to be your hunny hole, but a general area that would produce fish for some well desirving elders please let me know. You can even PM me with the info so that it is semi-confidential. I don’t want to get out there and get skunked. I would be very embarasing for me after I tried to get this trip going for 4 years and then we didn’t catch anything.
Also, if there are and tried and true techniques or baits that anyone thinks would be best for shore fishing please let me know. I was just thinking to use the old fashioned live worm and bobber but if anyone has a better suggestion they are very welcome.
Thanks agian for all the advice and help so far every one. If you need to contact me the
nursing home # is (612)724-5495 ext. 138 or you can send me a PM here.Matt Budny
May 27, 2005 at 5:33 pm #365185Well since I started late planning everything I am out of luck through cabella’s and gander. They request a writen donation request 6-8 weeks in advance and I only have two. Guess I will figure out something. I am going to check out some of the “neighborhood” sports stores too.
May 25, 2005 at 9:05 pm #364893Thanks Kooty for the offer if I find reels I will write you asap. I will look into gander and cabellas. Most likely gander since they are local in the cities and I don’t have much time to get down to owatonna for cabellas.
For anyone else that is reading this post, the day that we are planning to fish would be the 8th of june which is a wednesday.
May 25, 2005 at 3:29 pm #364817Thanks for the info I haven’t had a chance to pick up a copy of the reg book this year so I am greatful for your insight. We will have fun!!
May 7, 2005 at 6:07 am #361739James and Dustin must be on the water since I haven’t heard from them. Those two guys could be “fishing uncles” the amount of time I have fished with them. Hopefully the reel in the lines and check the boards soon.
May 6, 2005 at 3:34 pm #361631Thanks everyone for your well wishes! Grandpa has already given her a pole so she will be out as soon as she can hold it. I do plan on comming to the BB/BS and the Get together along with mom and baby, at least for the gettogether.
November 3, 2004 at 6:41 pm #326278For those of you that chose to vote for Bush congrats, from a Kerry supporter. I agree with Stilakid lets get back to being neighbors and cross party fishing. The worst is over and I hope we can all hide the dark sides of ourselves for at least 4 years.

The news carried a story that there was a large ‘get out the vote’ initiative in care centers for the severely handicapped and disabled. I guess if Clinton can execute them they should have the right to vote, but the idea is just sick.
Why shouldn’t ALL americans have the right to vote. So if you were in a boating accident and lost your limbs and were in a care facility you shouldn’t be able to choose??? I have worked in care facilities for many years and find this comment BS. I know that there are standerds to the legally insane, and rightfully so, but if a is not insane and this person wants to vote let them. Is there a standard for IQ for voting??? If there is then I guess you should have a test for every american that choses to express there given right to vote.
October 6, 2004 at 4:48 pm #323419I have the game too and I found it tough to get used to the casting at first but after a while I was able to figure it out. The game is actually made by Activision out of Eden Prairie, or at least they have a game development office there. I figure that might even make a few of us buy it since it is created locally.
August 3, 2004 at 5:11 pm #315213Shane,
THANK YOU!!!! It was a great event!! The time and NRG that you must have put into planning and keeping things together sould be commended.
It was the first time that I was able to be a part of it and I am glad I could join the ranks. The kids were great, well behaved, and appreciative in many ways, which made the event a success.
I was also glad to share a boat with SteveO since I don’t have one, I had a great time with him and helping out, even when we got stuck in the sand bar. I just wish that the little we had cught more but the big we had caught a huge variety of fish so at least there were fish in the boat.
I hope that I can help out in the future too!
I just wish we didn’t have to beg people up to the last week to help out. The number of boaters was slow to grow and though we had enough this year I hope that others will see what this event means to these kids. Then next year there will be extra boaters available or at least the list could be full a month in advance.
Great event, great people, great times!!!!
July 26, 2004 at 6:00 pm #314119Steve I do plan on being in your boat. I PM’d James to make sure he didn’t need me on shore so I will be glad to share your boat. Thanks again, we surely will have fun. I will be down there around 8am or soon there after. I have about an hour drive so I might be a little late due to rush hour traffic.

July 22, 2004 at 5:02 pm #313791I will let you know steve ASAP if I can get out of my night job so that I can come down. Right now I am off from the day job but I would have to work at 5 at the other and I would rather have fun with everyone at the event, unless it is done at least by 3:30. Thanks for the spot I will take it if I can!!!
July 21, 2004 at 5:45 pm #313610Do you have to have a boat to help????
I don’t own a boat but I would love to help out the kids if I could. Is there any four person groups or is it just twos? If I can get in with a boat owner and share the experience with two kids I might be able to get out of work to do it.June 24, 2004 at 5:25 pm #309893Sounds like a good time!! Gald that you had a the chance to spend time with your kids fishing. Some of the best bonding moments for any father and child come from fishing!
June 8, 2004 at 5:09 pm #307895I just moved from Chan and the Lake Susan and Lake Ann parks are pretty good for panfish. Lake Ann has a ton of them that sit right under the fishing pier and kids will love it no matter how small. As long as they catch something!!! Good luck!
May 18, 2004 at 4:41 am #305150Kid you put into words everything that I couldn’t and said it such a wonderful way. No wonder your dad cries when he reads the poem you write what you feel and write it in words that everyone can understand. I am glad that this topic is continueing I just wish it was on the main board so that everyone could write about the relationships the have with their fathers.
