We stayed at Gunflint Lodge years ago,very nice .Close enough to Grand Marais for your shopping.Look them up on line,might be what your looking for. 
Other wise we stayed at Ross`s Teal lake Lodge in Hayward Wis.,also very nice .

There use to be a device that attached to your auger that would put a bevel on the bottom of the hole.I`ve never used one but I`ve seen the advertisement ,looked interesting.I`m sure someone knows what it is called…..This sounds like what you need

I did see it at the ice show. sorry can`t recall the name ,but i do remember it was very pricey.I thought it was in the 15 to 20 grand range.I remember thinking it was cheaper going with a top of the line 4 wheeler and a “cadilac” flip over..

There use to be a site that had the army corp.of enginers specs on ice strengths.Try and google that,sorry thats the best I could do…….Personally I wouldn’t drive my pickup on 13″ .I’m guessing it would take 20+” and a bigger set of nuts to do what your asking….

My buddies and I use to fish it 20+ yrs.ago for northerns.One thing that we caught by surprise was a 1.5lb white crappie on a tipup with a shiner.I did see some big northerns caught also……Pickeral was another good place to tipup fish in that area.

Panfish(crappie,perch,blue gills)are open year round .
Don`t quote me on this but when I went up last hunting season,we were told we would need them next hunting season.

I have the strikemaster magnum 3000 ,it takes 24:1 ratio
thats 5 oz.oil to 1 gal of gas.If the auger is plenty broke in you can run it alittle leaner,not richer…
