This thread is the most deliciously difficult thing to read…

Note to self, don’t read when hungry.

Heading to Waubay S.D. the end of the month was just looking for a few tips or techniques for this time of year. Mainly be looking to fish walleye and perch.

    Thanks,

If you’re not down for just dragging rigs, find those island flats in 3-6 and throw rattle traps up there. Just cruise along the edge throwing up on top and try not to have too much fun. Bitter is hot in the afternoon with this type of technique.

Best bait of late is a chrome and blue rattle rap.

    Good luck!!!

Jesus….aren’t we a bunch of whiners on here. Good thing none of our opinions mean squat, no company would attempt to do anything new.

I’m stoked. I hope the other companies are improving their offerings as well, I like all of this competition. Ends up being fun to play with all the new gear.

And, I agree, that plastic crap of a reel last year was a joke. Of course, I’m not of the age where good ol’ value is good enough for me. My generation tends to believe you get what you pay for. Probably why my EC lasted 8 seconds last year…

Theres posts on the BB and 6061 on both IS and HSO, has been for a couple months…

There wasn’t for the longest time. I remember what BK and the OP were referring to…even remember a post which must have been BK called “deleted threads,” thinking how funny the whole thing was about a silly reel.

…then they deleted the “deleted threads,” thread…lol…too classic.

Great pics…good to see that reel is holding up as advertised. The thing feels bullet proof in hand.

Really hoping the 6061 lives up to bill, got my name on one and dying to get it in hand in a few weeks.

Impressed with the 13 guys this season, they came from nowhere FAST

Hey Anderson, I swore to my boss I wouldn’t give specifics as he worried I’d say something stupid (which I’m bound to do)…however, if you find yourself up on Miner’s Lake and randomly driving down Fernberg…say hello.

I’ve been dying to get out to some of those farm ponds in South Dakota…I hear you can find a few gems.

Looks so much like the EC Ice Reel.

    Bee…let’s be smart here.

One company seems to make great product (fished their Whiteout rod last year, very nice), the other is known for being cheap.

One is a solid aluminum reel, the other is cheap plastic. You really think it’s the 6061 looking like the EC?

We have those in our shop on combos for $39.99, yet everyone on here was buying them at $15 blow out price from the factory. Nobody sees the fishy (forgive the pun) behavior there…

I’m not going to say one copied the other, but d.a.m.n. if that isn’t obvious we need to get you to the eye Dr. son!!!!

Sitting here looking at my EC reel and looking at the 6061 I have to say except for some minor things not much different.

Good thing I don’t use your logic to purchase ANYTHING in life bee.

I’ve seen KIA’s that look like BMW’s, and I’ll go out on a limb here and say they probably aren’t the same under the hood.

Or in this instance, on the surface. One is 6061 aluminum, the other feels like cheap plastic in hand. While I haven’t held the BB…I’ve felt no aluminum fly reel and mistaken it for a cheap, plastic anything.

Great post James, thanks for the pics!!! Been dying to see this one come to life…so stoked!

I don’t believe we as a nation will ever see the “bubble” as big as the 90’s. Over time homes have traditionally been a limited investment, averaging under 3% return up through the early 90’s. 200% flips and people gouging people…well that will do a housing market in quick (hence today).

Your value is in the land, if you have a piece that is worth holding that’s where the money will come back. Houses can be built again and again.

As another said, rent if you can (and want to be a landlord). Invest the rest, try to average 7% return…something simple as a Roth can give you that today.

I’ve been told the same as James from a friend who reps them. The 13 guys apparently found this chassis at a Japanese tackle show and modified the guts. Something that reel on your link (and I would assume the Eagle Claw one floating around) are both missing.

Popular rumors seem to be an instant anti reverse, where the Eagle Claw has back play, at least those here in our shop, and the carbon drag and crazy free spool. I’m stoked…we have a few coming in and all have been spoken for (me with and RSVP for 1 please!!!)

Almost forgot to mention the biggest problem with using a raft reel off shelf in plastic…they didn’t take out the spool holes.

You’d do yourself good Suzuki by taping up the spool face.

Water inside of a gear housing, freezing weather…I could think of more pleasant things.

Those little holes on the spool drain right into the gear housing. You get any kind of water in there…well I’m sure frozen gears are fun.

I’m with Brian on this one…

As a die hard Cardinals fan and baseball enthusiast I pony up every year. After Game 2 I just about passed out from boredom.

Just in spite of falling short I’d think I should watch, just couldn’t find any interest in SF. And as much as I wanted to follow Detroit’s story lines, they didn’t see to care…at all…

Is it like a new car, can you take it for a test drive? Make sure it keeps a similar operation for a few seasons?

That’s because the Black Betty and this are two different reels. The Black Betty is a die-cast aluminum reel, built to be solid and last a life time. Simple cork tension drag operation, 1:1.

The BB 6061 is a similar style reel, but nowhere near the same as this Eagle Claw.

The Eagle Claw is a plastic raft reel, no different. The BB 6061 is an ice reel, big difference. Similar style chassis but completely different guts.

One has no instant anti reverse, no line out alarm (only bait clicker), half the free spool, no carbon drag system, is not made of 6061-T6 aluminum, etc.
