I never remove mine making short trips 1 hr or less. However long freeway type trips like to rainy big stone, I do and put them in the truck.
I think all the rattling in the boat isn’t he best for them.
Well Dean, I should have just asked you last week when we talked on the phone.
I did call them on Sat. The person on the phone said that they could not order it. Going to get it from the factory outlet store when I call them tomorrow (just found out their closed on mondays)
A month later they have came out with this update under sonichub, if anyone needs it.

The yellow Is not needed to power the hds unit. However I use this wire to turn on the SS when I power on my main hds unit on. If you dont use it, the SS will stay on unless you have another way to cut the power. Since it is mounted right underneeth my console it was easy to do.
Here is how mine is. I was worried about it as well……don’t notice out of the ordinary on the left side….can still pick up items plus I never have my trim all the way down so maybe that helps.
You did by chance have a boat troll past you playing some country music last night…… And no that wasn’t me. will be out again night.
Well I just got off the phone with Lowrance. They will be releasing another update specificly for this issue. ETA 2 weeks.
Ron,
Also some other things to try is this. I seems that you either have Windows Vista or Windows 7. Make sure that the HDS download is saved to a location that you have access to….like your desktop. If you saved it to the root of the C drive that could be why your getting that error message.
when it prompts you to save the files you point it to your SD card that you have in your reader. If it then says you don’t have access to that….you might want to check if there is a lock on that SD card or try to format it first and then try the setup again.
Let me know if you havn’t got this working yet. I can mail you my card if you want. I just did my last unit last night.
The Verizon (CDMA) phone has only one verson 4.2.6 so there is no updating out of the box.
However, I have rebooted the phone a couple times since I had it.
Well…..not working…..least with the phone. I can hear the radio, USB……plug in the phone and it finds it, starts a song but not sound.
Thanks guys, I goofed up the settings on the one unit that is why I wasn’t seeing them. I did a reset and then the waypoints showed up.
Some people don’t do this but I have. I cut off the fat back and then cover the whole thing in yellow mustard, pepper, salt, and then brown suger and lots of it.
I have also used famous daves rib rub as well which is ok.
I believe I smoked it for 6 hours and then wrapped it in foil then into the oven around 200 deg or so for another 2-3 hours. Unwrap and enjoy.
Some people like the crispyness which you leave on the smoker just raise the temp around 300 and leave it on there for the 2-3 instead of putting it in the oven.
The left overs…if any….can be pulled apart to make bbq sandwiches with it.
Now I got myself hungry….off to lunch.
Well as I was looking though the manual today….again and also talked to a pro staffer at the sports show, I do believe I found out the answer.
If you hit [enter] twice it will create the way-point on that unit only. If you hit [WPT] twice it will create it on both units.

Sounds like overloaded and bent axle(s)

Not sure when the last time I ever hit a curb with it.
Also if it was a overloaded trailer wouldn’t both tires bow out?

I just purchaed the same setup as you, 2-hds8’s with structure scan.
I am not using the yellow wires on the units as I am going to use the on/off button control the power.
However, you will need to use the yellow wire on the structure scan to a switch to turn that on/off or else if you just wire it up straight to the battery with red/black it will be on all the time and your battery will be dead the next time you take out your boat.
Now, that all said. With these new HDS units, with my exprience with them so far, IMO, I would not wire up the units to a switch or even that same switch to just power them off without using the on/off button on the units itself.
I do have a mater power swtich that I use at the end of the day after everything is powered off to make sure there isn’t any usage that will drain my battery overnight. Specifically in places where I cannot plug in the charger, I think it adds a little value.
I have been finding the menus to be simple and easy to figure out. With actually a little reading before I played with it, really not that bad.
