Here is a link to Seagull Creek Outfitters “Hog Board”—it’s current for 2013—Shows the Hogs for Sag, Northern Lights and Seagull Lake. These are the lakes Mike Berg guides out of. One on Minnesota’s top guides.
I also managed to cut mine—got ahold of the replacement part and fixed myself–you will have to remove 3 screws to open the head but very easy to replace.
They are pretty well picked over by the Y as that’s where the majority of boats are fishing. The better fish I took yesterday, came from 15′ of water-some of them below the first wing damn heading up to the dam and some down river much farther.
Was out from about noon to 4:30–fair bite today with lots of small fish. Bite picked up around 3:00 and size did also. Paddle-tails still seem to be killing the ring-worms–can’t really understand why since last year it was ring-worms all the way for me. Most of my nice fish were dragging. Need to get away from the “Y” to get quality fish.
I have a friend who owns a place on Sag so I probably get up there 6-8 times a year. Sag has some excellent fishing but timing and location are everything. June normally would be my pick for the area but if you want to guarantee fish, I would certainly hook up with Mike Berg. He knows Sag like the back of his hand.
I have that exact boat–2000 40 hp 4 stroke and 2000 Lund-Minn Kota 55# on the front. Handles the waves on the river fine and still not so heavy that I can’t handle it alone. If I have a negative, it’s the shifting on the Mercury–Yamaha’s seem to be much easier and quieter when shifting. I still have my original spec. sheet and the equip. on the boat when I bought it if you’re interested.
If you’re planning on fishing the Kewaunee harbor be sure to call ahead to see if they are still dreging in the harbor. They were dredging last week and plans were for this continue for a couple more weeks. Not much happening while they are stirring things up.
