We caught around 30 sheepies , switched to casting crank baits in flooded shorelines.
Caught some eyes, catfish, smallmouth, and snagged a paddlefish that was so big it wouldn’t. Fit in net. Guessing it was around 35-40lbs.as we tried getting him it came unhooked. Wish I could have got a picture of that bruiser!
A 30 minute battle was awesome!!!

I fished middle Eau Claire lake this past january 2x. Had decent luck using small sucker minows under tip ups near the buck’n’bass resort.14-20 fow. Mostly 14-18″ walleyes,a couple decent smallmouths.
I have never fished open there, but have heard it can be real good early spring.
    Good luck!

Exactly what Jessee said, i had the best luck fishing the sharpest breaks i know of..I never would keep fishn the same spot unless the bite was on fire.
Moving to different depths as winter ice gets thicker. Most of the time i would be at or near32-34fow.
Small moon glows or demon glow jigs tipped with a small crappie minnow worked well..When temps. got down to single digits, small jiggn spoons tipped with a minnow head worked good for nice slab crappies.
The St. Croix is always a learning experience.

Hopefully this will help make them fish agressive..
Just seems like its to early in the year for the temps. to be up that high, all the warm weather has moved everything up early.

I got some in my spot no where near there , was drifting down wisconsin shoreline using small split shot& crappies minnows in 5-10 fow..

    47-48 temps.

Most were small in the 9-10″ range, was a nice change after a terrible season out there on the ice.

MIght go back out on thursday morning and try up river farther.

    Can’t wait for that
I watched a ranger running wide open out in front of Clydes marina in bayport,mn. today. It looked as though a tourney was going on, he was zig-zagging all over.
I pulled over on 95 to watch, and as soon as i stopped he headed down towards the hudson channel I couldn’t see him anymore..
Isn;’t the no wake still in effect?

I was using paddle tails and getting the small saugers during the day, i had to leave early before the walleye bite got fired up.
I had to be home for company, steak and king crab legs.
Hoping to back on wed. night.
I have plenty on ringees in the assortment of colors too,was wondering what has been the best as of recent?

I’m siding with them be nuts!

But as JJ said, the ice has not been as thick or consistant as in years past. The current can and will change the thickness in that area especially now.

BUT, i would like crawl out there maybe after we have had a good hard freeze for about two months.Maybe next year?

Oh, and some who know me say i’m nuts too. Just for other reasons
