I have the avid mlxf 6ft 9 rod. it is my go to rod for most applications I have a 6ft 3 mxf avid a 5ft 9 avid mxf. and a 7ft mlf avid. if only one it would be the 6ft 9 rod
before I do this I want to make sure of changing to bubbles. what do you guys like about bubbles versus full windshields. I am probably going to do more river than lake ans small lakes. i thought it would be easier to handle in wind and give me a little more space when bass fishng from front and casting
what i was looking for is this and thanks for response. I live in iowa and want to fish backwater areas for bass around lansing iowa. can i get by with the mud motor or should i ivest in the outboard?
fished 10-3 and 10-4. weather was nice with wind. I was walleye fishing live rigs with 2 to 3 inch shiners. Caught some walleyes but on day one put 17 really nice perch in the live-well. next day was semwha the same. The fish would hit a dead stick rigged with one of the shiners. If I held the rod I usually strck to quick and missed the fish. I just let the fish work on the shiner until they had hooked themselves. It was surprising how big a shiner an 11 inch fish will chew on. I found the fish spread out and thus drifting. Most the usual spot worked, My suggetions is to keep moving and you will put fish in the boat. Anchor up if you must but you sure wait along time before a school may find you.
On July 3 I boated a 29 inch walleye off Big Stoney. Couple years ago on July 3 I caught a 28 inch walleye off of Pikes Point. July 3rd seem to be my big fish day.
check out a Daiwa Sol. They are $249 regular but you can find them on sale for the $175 mark. I bought mine for $125. They are built specifically for light lures. I coupled it with a Carrot stik Gold medium parabolic action and it is one fine unit.
I set my minimum at 10 inches and that is what I kept. I did not have any bigger but had many at 8 inches. It was kind of weird as I have fished perch alot and usually slow drift with a 1/16 ounce tube and some meat as they move around. Had not caught this many fish pulling cranks. It obviously was not real sporting on lead-core but it did make for a nice pile of fillets. I controlled difted through the crowd of boats with a tube jig and small minnow and picked up a few 8 inch fish. Looking around I did not that much action. once I got off more toward the basin is when I really picked up clouds of schools. I think most boats were fishing to close in. There were 2 boats anchored off where I was at and they were real busy reeling them in.
I picked up a Carrot stik parabolic 7 ft rod in the gold series wqhich has the split cork grips. I realy like it. I fish walleye mostly but love fishing smallies and I cannot believe how sensitive this rod is with braid. Really lite weight as I have it paired with a Revo Premier.
i will weigh in
i went with a carrot stik gold. the one with the cork grip.
it has a parabolic action and i love it with braid iacan feel every little tick
great smallie rod
i was out first in the morning around 7:30 am. I wanted to go the night before at dusk because I have had success in the past with this pattern but did get it done.
the weedline is variable but I would say for the most part on thr east side the weedline ends in about 10 feet. the closer you got 2 the SE corner the weedline is usually a little deeper. I found pretty clean bottom consistently in the 12 ft range and have so far this year. It is ideal for running cranks as most of the ones I prefer for walleye run in the 10 to 11 foot range depending on length and type of line used. Over the Fourth Holiday I had picked this pattern up as I stuck a number of nice fish including a 24 and 26 inch fish. By the way they went baqxk into the water. I would have kept a few 16 inch fish but I can’t seem to catch them that small anymore?
actually the insurance issue is not a problem. with some carriers liability may already be automatic with coverage being extended off the homeowners. generally, companies with boatowners type policies, would not have a problem with a 300 hp outboard for this class of boat.
fixed the problem. i see there is a nut as this is a through bolt. just replaced the bolt and was back in business
just telling you what I have your mileage might vary. I have a 6ft 3 inch avid with an 801 abu garcia like the rod for vertical not so much pitching. Have an avid 6 ft 9 inch ml with an 801 abu garcia like it for pitching not so much vertical. overall like the ml 6ft 9 better. Check out the 801 in the garcia. FFO in Spirit Lake has them for $65. they balance very well with these rods and are a step up from the President.
After usage this weekend I like the rod for 1/4 to 1/2 ounce crankbaits. Also up to medium running cranks. I may look into the 7 ft 2 inch Carrot Stick Reg parabolic as it may be more to what I am looking for. I will say the parabolic action is spot on what I am looking for in a crankbait rod that will double as a spinnerbait rod. Jake, so you bought 4 Revos which models and when are we going fishing? I need to get on that new Ranger and fish some new waters. Oh by the way the fishing was not so good with the weather this weekend. I spent equal time between Big Spirit and West okoboji. Cold front plus high winds make for a tough bite for me anyway.
theeel seat seems to be comfortable. i have not had alot of cast on it yet so all day comfortable is a different story. the cork extension on the reel seat fits well in the V created by the palm of my right hand. this was a comcern but because it is tapered the short extension is good. I compared this to the Cruciuls and they did not taper this part and it kind of digs in.
No not yet. next weekend we will give it a spin. putting a Revo Premier on it. I was out fishing the IA River over the weekend and caught some nice walleyes. Hooked up a 10 lb wiper that took me for a ride in the current. Guy next to me had a paddlefish on for 10 minutes. You never know in the river.
yes sir
those are the ones they featured
thanks to those who replied
i fish alot of spinners and like how they have alittle wobble when the water goes through the slit
thanks for the post.
They were not JB ventilated spinners. JB has 2 slits
the ones Linder was using had 1 horizontal slit about 1/3 from the top of the spinner.
it really gave them a side to side motion and when coupled with GULP crawlers or leeches looked hot. I use Mack winged spinners and get this action but was wantiung the exact spinner used on this show. Any help would be appreciated.
you can pick up an 802 or 801 at the FFO for $68. great reels and great price
alvinmack, thanks for headup on setyr rods
where did you buy yours as would like to see and feel before i buy t
thanks
I have 2 Premiers whcih are a step up from the STX. I had compared them to the STX and would say they are a step up in smooth and casability. I have not had a baklash with these Premiers as you can fine tune them. I think the Reese model is smoother than both as they are using the same bearings as the Premier but have more of them. I would buy the Reese for the extra money. The Reese was not our when I bought my Premiers but then again I bought them for $150 apiece at The FFO store in Spirit Lake.
I have some breathables from Cabelas that I like that are stocking foot. I bought in the second had return area in Prairei Du Chein for about half price and there was nothing wrong with them. Like them for summer fishing. They have a little neoprene in the front of the legs , down the calf and in the seat and they can be worn into the year and are suprising how warm they are with a fleece wading pant
