Did you guys use rattle reels at night at all?

Surprisingly enough, we caught some of our better walleyes late at night with the rattle reels last year.

I also have had success with pike in the spring with laying a frozen herring on the bottom. I am curious if people have had success with frozen herring this time of year..?

I have noticed that too. Apparently all they do is fly fish out there. I haven’t found information on tactics using a spinning rod.

I am all stocked up on raps, so I should be good to go.

    Thanks for the info guys.

Whats is the argument between Medium action and Medium light action for pitching jigs?

I have been looking at getting a 7′ ML Fast St Croix Eyecon for jigging..

eh, sometimes people get weird about giving info on specific lakes and I was generally curious anyways. But yeah I am heading to Minnewaska. The DNR report said it has a primarily sandy bottom.

I know this is a bass forum, but would similar locations apply for pike and/or walleye?

I guess it should be strong enough for bass and walleye if it works for tarpon.. haha

So yeah, it was really muddy. We stubbornly casted away anyways to no avail.

Do the trout become very inactive when the water is muddy or is it just a matter that they didnt see my lure?

And yeah, it is my understanding that the early spring season is barbless only.

Did you tip the front and back trebles with a minnow head by chance?

Right on, that should keep me busy Saturday. Is the fall bite consistent throughout the day or more during the usual dawn and dusk low light periods?

Looks like there is a low pressure front coming through also, hopefully that gets em fired up.

Little fun sized statments about complex issues should never be trusted and should be seen as the obvious attempts to manipulate the public that they are.

To be clear, the left leaning TV and radio is also garbage.

Yeah, its true if you take the small minded approach and buy into the toxic garbage that is vomited on TV and radio. If you want to get past the half truths and gross embelishments, pick up a book or a respectable news publication and get the whole story. The written word is scrutinized and held to a far higher standard then the idiots on TV and radio, thus authors are held accountable for outragous claims and completely erroneous statments.

Guys like Rush and Beck can spew whatever BS they want and are in no way held accountable to their claims. Plus they are getting insanely rich off of spreading toxic garbage. Rush made 60 million dollars last year manipulating conservatives, Glen Beck made 90 million dollars spreading even more toxic garbage last year. If you think they are ‘educating’ the public, you are incredibly misguided. They are no more than hired guns for the far right propoganda machine.

Awesome feedback, sounds like a great game plan.

Are crawfish a primary forage base up there like on lake of the woods? I would imagine its similar geography and terrain.

I’ve been using the finesse sinking raps gold, grey and chrome blue with a lot of success. I think the key feature to this lure is the square lip. The wider wobble leads to more hook ups when compared to yo zuri pins with a round lip. I have been using a fairly aggressive retrieve of rhythmic snaps and a constant retrieve. This approach seems to lead to more hook ups also. Not snapping the lure or a slow retrieve seems to lead to poor hook ups since the fish seem to flash at the lures with at times little interest in actually eating it (more of a territorial bite..?)

FYI, I mainly fished during may so that may have something to do with the nature of the bite I experienced.

Awesome, we are hoping to get a good mix of walleyes, smallies and northerns while casting.

We are thinking of checking out Pow bay, bear bay and/or yellow girl bay to see what kind of action is going on in the shallow bays.

Awesome. I’m super pumped, this late spring should make the fishing epic the first week in June.

I’m heading to Warroad next weekend with some friends. Most people have been saying gold and glo colors are the way to go..? Also, are jigging rapalas and spoons working best? I just read an article in Minnesota sportsman talking about the need for noise at low light situations and depths. So I’m curious if Ripp’n raps would be effective..?

Interesting, I wonder why they do so well below the dam, but not in the lake. I guess it makes sence that they would flourish and concentrate directly below the dam, but I have heard that you can float down stream from the dam and find some holes with just as many muskie in em..

I wonder if Muskie just struggle to reproduce in the lake because of competition with Northern fry or if Muskie just have a instinctive propensity to jump the damn..?
