for those not hunting the no qouta zones…deadline of permits is may 6th.

already applied but did the 99 option due to my kids issues with the house. otherwise we had the preference points i believe to get drawn this year.

I applied in 47 as I only have 4 points and may as well stack points for when I’m ready. Moving to FL in 2 days and I don’t know if I’ll be able to get up this fall for a hunt. I only need 4 points so I can at least get one any year I want one.

I’m confused here, is your property the one listed on Zillow for 725000?

Nevermind, Looks like you must be the next property to the east actually.

    Nice area.

That’s the neighbor. That was my Great Uncle’s place. Well used to be until he sold it.

Holy cow. That place doesn’t even look like my place. Completely different (except for the view and exterior). The interior is very different now. That’s before I got it and built the pole building.

That looks like a very fair deal. I am not currently looking, but I know somebody.
    What type of HVAC?
Any facilities in the MIL/Guest Suite?
Is the pole building on slab?
Will a map with all the best fishing spots marked be included?

In floor heat. Central air. No facilities in MIL suite (county gets testy). Pole building on gravel.

I’m moving to FL. So I suppose for a good offer, I would include spots. )

It is an excellent fishing lake. It was my Grandparents home. Stick built in 1996. New A/C a couple years ago. New roof in 2013. House was built to take full advantage of the property. Screen porch, 4 season porch/mud room, dining room, and living room all strategically placed to enjoy lake view. Master bedroom looks over lake as well. But that can get irritating during walleye opener when you get up for work and see guys out in front of your place catching fish.

My parents have a 40′ camper (2 slide outs) on the property to. They will be selling that as well.

Deck to 12×12 porch has been significantly expanded since the picture.

I found some older threads on this but still had some questions. For the first time I will actually have a choice. Ive ran rollers forever but my buddy does have bunks and its pretty slick to get in and out of a launch. If you are fishing solo a lot would you prefer bunks or rollers? How long do you typically get out of bunks before you have to replace? I dont think shallow launches will be a huge issue for me.

Bunks all the way. I’ve had various boat trailers over the years. Bunks, almost zero aggravation. Roller, easily 40% or more aggravation. Even on my flat bottom mud boat with bunks I don’t have the same aggravation as I have had with roller trailers and V bottom hulls.

seriously thinking of getting a new locator. a hummingbird with lake chip abilities. i just got back from Scheels. most the helix 7’s come with either down or side imaging. i dont really know if i want either. if i dont go that route its back to a 5 inch screen.

to those that have the down imaging is it really worth the extra 400 bucks for down imaging and the 7 inch screen???????

I’m seriously considering buying a 12″ just for the chart capabilities. I ran 9″ screens for the SI and it worked but I would have liked 10″ screens. I run a 7″ now. However, my eyes aren’t getting any younger.

Glad I moved from that place 30 years ago.

Uber, Lyft say they’ll leave May 1 after Minneapolis City Council overrides Frey veto
Uber said it will leave the entire metro, including the airport. Lyft said it would cease operations in Minneapolis May 1, when the ordinance takes effect.

It’s not just down there. It’s all of Minnesota. Our commie county board and socialist city council in GR are horrible. Many people are leaving just the county. There’s like myself are leaving the whole damn state.

All you windshield guys will swear by them and the tiller guys will swear by the tiller.

Match the boat to the way you like to fish.

I’m waiting for Pro-Drive to fully develop and sell this bad boy.

^Unfortunately my struggles to find a small used ATV to run around with has given the Mrs. all the more drive to want a giant 4 seater side by side that I want no part of.

I’ve tried telling her they’re not maneuverable on our bluff trails, are expensive, take up more garage, and won’t get used any more than a small utility wheeler for bombing around at 4 times the cost. She somehow thinks otherwise because she sees people driving them down the road. I told her if she wants a toy to drive down the road, find a Mid-Late 90s Jeep Wrangler for half the cost.

OH, I’m going to sell my 2016 John Deere Gator 590i as well. grin That machine is NOT a POS.

I’ve got a POS 1996 Polaris 300 Explorer I’m selling. It has a brand new engine rebuild last year. New chain. New battery. New front tie rod. And it’s still a POS you’ll be cursing long after I’ve sold it. rotflol

Did you guys know the X Prize in 2004 was a hole in one insurance policy? $1,000,000 in premiums with a $10,000,000 payout. Wanna bet those crooked INS companies passed on that loss to us?

“The Ansari X Prize was a space competition in which the X Prize Foundation offered a US$10,000,000 prize for the first non-government organization to launch a reusable crewed spacecraft into space twice within two weeks. It was modeled after early 20th-century aviation prizes, and aimed to spur development of low-cost spaceflight.”

Same with the salt water. These advanced technologies are allowing people to clean up. Especially commercial fisherman. The Chinese have technologies that absolutely rape the oceans. Decimating the tuna populations.

Other than the musky guys I rarely see them used in summer in the Midwest and Canada. For a lot of types of fishing FFS doesn’t give much or any advantage in the boat.

There is beginning to be a generational gap in pro fishing too. Older fellas that have been on tour for a long time cannot rely on experience and knowledge to keep up with the young bucks that are scoping. New kids on the block that have never fished many of these lakes show up as scope wizards and mop up against the veterans now because of technology.

That right there is a prime example of why they should be banned. Especially in tournaments. Tournaments are all about skill and knowledge. And you just said these techy boys can beat the pants off of skill and knowledge.

Not to mention that begs the question about the common techy boy, and what he’s doing to the fish population and fishing pressure.

If you have a mortgage, they require insurance or some type of bond or something to protect their investment.

That’s what is killing to mortgage industry in FL. A lot of companies simply will not write new policies and the gov’t option is ridiculous. I keep hearing stories of $10,000 -$15,000 per year for home owners. And on top of that, $5000-$12,000 a year for auto insurance. Regular autos like a burb and a pickup in the driveway, not some super car.

If you own you home you do not have to have any home insurance, Now there is a Gamble. Some homeowners are going that route. That is a huge gamble with one of their biggest assets.

That’s a common thing in FL. I just learned that. Up here in MN being “self-insured” is unheard of. In FL, very common. I had no idea. I was blown away when I was doing all my homeowners stuff down there.

Well ice season ended sooner than expected so the next project on the honey do list is insulating our attached garage. I ended up finding some insulation on marketplace (factory seconds) and picked it up. It was all supposed to be faced but quite a bit of it ended up having no paper. I hung it this weekend and now I am wondering if I should just poly (vapor barrier) everything since a good portion has no face or rips/tears. What do you guys think? I am no expert here but I’m thinking that is going to be the best route. I plan on covering the walls with OSB and the ceiling in steel. Thanks for any advice!

    Slabz

Double poly that stuff. No reason not to.

For those here in Minnesota, if asked this same question how would you answer?

Ban ’em! We need less screen time, not more. Of course I say that as someone who has rid themselves of all that junk except for a simple mapping DI unit. I felt I was getting away from the reason I go outdoors. Screen time is NOT one of the reasons I’m on the water.

I agree everything has gone up but 40%. Has the value of your house gone up 40% in 1 year?

I hope so. I’m selling (putting on the market) my lake house in Grand Rapids in about a month.

Just got my bill for this coming year, $2,113.00 $400 increase over last years. This is ridiculous, I called my agent State Farm and they told me everybodys is going up, my vehicle rate went wild, what is happening? My agent told me Minnesota has ranked number 1 for the last 28 years in claims from catrotoshic events? I am 76, had state farm since I was 18 just a couple of claims, small, pisses me off. Anybody else notice these rate increases?

Very common these days. Experienced the same here. Just be glad you aren’t somewhere like FL. You think MN is bad for home and auto?

That’s a bit of a bucket list fish for me. I’ve caught many other species in the Gulf/Florida but never a sheepie. Cool looking fish and I’ve heard they taste fantastic! Were you in Florida or somewhere else?

    Texas.

You can see how rough the walk can get in these pictures.

For me, vehicle weight would be on top of the list. I’ve seen way too many people back in the day towing a Lund Tyee with a jeep Cherokee. Which is fine on flat ground. But when they need to stop abruptly or while going downhill. The boat pushes the vehicle dangerously. And of course, engine torque. Because then going back up the hill, it just didn’t have it.

In my personal experience, I have a 20 foot car hauler that I haul my tractor and implements around on. one day my electronic breaks weren’t working because the connection to the truck was dirty. Night and day difference on having brakes versus not having brakes. Really drove the point home about using the vehicles brakes and weight to stop a heavy load. And I would think a smaller boat on a smaller vehicle is comparatively a heavy load.

If you think boats are expensive in the Midwest go take a look at some of the salt water rigs.

Right, flat out scary. More importantly, unobtainable. I asked my guide buddy who runs a Calcutta 263 Catamaran how these guys who run half million to million dollar boats for charters can justify it and recoup their costs. He said they don’t. Most of them are tourney guys and need the big wins and charters to cover costs. Hell, even a Calcutta 263 base price is mid 100’s for the hull.

But somehow, some way, the new pickups and boats and UTVs and, and, and keep rolling off the lots. New houses keep getting built and bought. I damn sure don’t see any FEWER Americans on planes heading for vacation in sunny spots now versus 25 years ago. Anybody out there planning to spend say half as much on fishing this year as they did last year? No? So if we’re all so damn poor, who’s buying all this stuff?

No question. I always buy used with cash and fix what is needed and when I sell I at least get my money back. With moving to FL, I started selling all the boats, wheel house, tractor, etc. They are selling as fast as I can list them. I’m listing them for what I’m seeing out there as market value. Plenty of people with plenty of money (or at least credit). Who knew?

I’m going to stick out in Florida at the marina. My little 18′ john boat with a mud motor mixed in with all those big off shore boats. But I’ll be able to get into the tidal flats and mangrove swamps nice and easy.
