Great Report DeeZee! Sounds like a great trip.
Just curious on how far the Island Resort was from the boat launch and how did you find the resort once you left the dock at Morison?
ZimApril 30, 2003 at 3:34 pm #265507Here’s another pic showing the result of getting double pigs. We didn’t have time to take the first on out of the net before we dipped for the second. Nice net job Steve!
April 30, 2003 at 3:28 pm #265506Steve, this trip was sure a blast! I attached a pic showing how we didn’t have time to stop fishing and eat a decent meal.
April 15, 2003 at 2:45 am #264154I agree with the performance of the PINPOINT graphs and trolling motors but I can’t afford to keep the units running. My trolling motor was out of commision for two weeks last year (under warr.) and two graphs stopped working this spring (just out of warr.) In talking with Al Star Specialist in Tx. and Motor Clinic in MN. I found the cost to be around $300 for each unit if they can fix them due to board revision changes and availability. And by the way, there is NO warr. after they leave the store. I guess when the 7500 unit went bad that can take out the board in the trolling motor. In turn, by plugging the unit back into the trolling motor the bad board in the trolling motor can take out the repaired 7500 or 7520. Even without the trolling motor issues they don’t give a warr. on the units. I’m going to remove my Pinpoint transducers and install additional Lowrance electronics. I rather not attach a external transducer to the trolling motor but I don’t have a choice…
By the way, thanks for the good discussion on this topic.
ZimMarch 31, 2003 at 6:16 pm #262584Dustin, I agree with the functionality of the Pinpoint equipment as I really like the definition. It’s the reliability I strugle with. I hope you’re unit is the exception…
DeeZee, what timing… I’m glad your up and running again with some new equipment.March 27, 2003 at 4:43 pm #255620DeeZee, nice fishing report and outing. Was there a color pattern for the Smithwick Suspending Super Rogues? Man they are just an awesome bait!
March 27, 2003 at 4:13 pm #255615My Ficht is running so well with the Ficht Ram Oil that I’m afraid to try anything else. If it’s not broken I don’t want to ficht it. So to speak… I am currious what other people are running though.
March 25, 2003 at 10:31 pm #255481After seeing the Wedge that DeeZee is using I will be purchasing one soon. I do have a question though… Does it really releive the presure on the transom or just on the motor lift? It seems that by attaching the transom saver to the trailer or roller that some of the presure is now on the trailer rather than the transom. DeeZee, have you talked to the Ranger reps about this?
March 25, 2003 at 2:09 pm #255432It was a black lab pup…
It sure can get busy this time of the year. It is frustrating but man was it a great day! I stayed until dark hoping the eyes would move in after all the boats were gone but that didn’t happen. We’ll see next time.March 25, 2003 at 2:02 pm #255430Just one more idea, when I’m running alone in my John Boat with a 25hp. motor I find the front end wants to jump around at high speed. What I’ve been doing is putting a 40qt. cooler filled with water in the front. This really helps and makes it easy to remove.
March 24, 2003 at 7:58 pm #255330Dave, I don’t think we actually exchanged names but I wanted to tell you it was great to see you and your cute fishing partner. Man did she have a big smile. What a fun day with dad! I was the guy with the excitable 9mo. old lab pup. I did catch someones yellow jig and pulled in a ton of line but there wasn’t anything attached to the rod end.
March 24, 2003 at 7:49 pm #255329TBO, it was nice to meet and talk with you as well. It sure is fun to meet new EFN fisherman After talking with you we ended up finding some fish late in the day around the confluence area but it certainly wasn’t hot and heavy. I attached a pic of a 26″ fish caught towards the end of the day.
February 25, 2003 at 5:09 pm #252929Thanks for the update. It sure is scary how low the water is going to be this spring if we don’t get a few large snow falls. BTW, Did you get a chance to fish in the back channel?
February 25, 2003 at 5:00 pm #252927Great info. What is BIO-OIL and where do you get it?
I’m not running my Ficht this time of year but will be in early spring.February 25, 2003 at 4:57 pm #252925Sounds like fun. It sure is better than using the sick day when your sick!
February 25, 2003 at 4:54 pm #252924Thanks for the heads up. I think I might of forgotten the new license this year…
February 5, 2003 at 3:43 pm #251637I was surprised at the poor results also. I really wish the weather would have stayed nice so I could have redeamed myself before I posted but I guess that will just have to wait. The lock area was completely iced in but I did fish the edge of the ice near the current break. The surprising thing Sunday was that I didn’t mark very many fish on the locator. Even in the deap holes I maybe marked a couple of fish here and there.
February 5, 2003 at 2:56 am #251604Nice fish! It just doesn’t get any better than trolling shad raps shallow with boards… unless your fishing with your DAD. Then it’s really great!
January 21, 2003 at 8:38 pm #250779This sounds like a great product and it sure beats getting grease on everything. Thanks DeeZee!
January 21, 2003 at 4:36 pm #250756DeeZee, I have the same question as Phillip about the presure on the transom although the transom may not be the component needing releive but rather the motor pistons.
January 21, 2003 at 4:30 pm #250755Jeff, The Olympus C-50 Zoom camera I bought has a timer wi a small remote control that works really well. You can set the camera, pose with you fish, and press the button which starts with a delay and then the picture is taken. Really Cool! I would think there’s many models out there with that feature but I don’t know who has it. LOL
January 14, 2003 at 5:37 am #250331James, Steve and I were thinking that very same thing for pool 2. Now… how do we get the camera mounted to the bottom of the bridge… LOL
January 14, 2003 at 5:27 am #250330In the past I made a number of rods including an 8 1/2 foot downrigger rod. It was alot of fun but now I spend the time when I have it ice fishing or on the internet surfing fishtheriver.com. I use to use the Fenwick blanks and Fugi guides. What type of rods are you building and what blanks do you like. It’s been along time since I thought about this, thanks for putting up the post!
ZimJanuary 14, 2003 at 2:50 am #250325Your sure right that you drop alot of money on a camera just as you can a boat. What makes it worse is that since you have the nice boat you now catch more fish, since you catch more fish you catch larger fish, since your catching larger fish you need a better camera to photo all those large fish. And so on, and so on…
January 3, 2003 at 2:16 am #249785Steve, I won’t be on the river until Monday due to a quick trip to Iowa to give Teal (6 mo. old lab) another lesson on the Roosters. Good luck this weekend and let me know if you want to hit the river on Monday.
January 3, 2003 at 2:06 am #249783Thanks Guys, I do beleive that the proper name is “Peacock Walleye”. You know those southern strands…
