Where is the best perch fishing on the Madison chain of lakes. I fish the miss. but would love to find some Jumbos. I usually make it up once or twice a year.

    Lawrence,

Could you go a little more in depth about where on the rock structures of the running slough’s you fish. On top, outer edge, behind, etc. I’m not picturing what your saying. I fish big fish this time of year. Which means I go down river, but I always seam to find my fish on the outside wingdams, but I’ve found you need a deep water hole on the back side of the dam. I would like to know more about these slough walleye’s. I fish pool #12. Info would be greatly appreciated.

I had a pretty good day on pool #11 on Sunday 2 walleye 16″-19″ and many saugers mostly small but a few 14″-16″ fish. All males no fat bellies. We also had 2 crappie, 1 nice ring perch, and lots and lots of strippers. The water was muddy but if you searched for them they bit once you found them. I caught them in two of 5 spots one was the rock pile on the sand flat if you know where that is.

I’ve been doing really well early in the morning and late at night on the dams of the mississippi on pool 13 look for deep dams and fish the channel side of the dam. 12 fish last weekend the biggest was 25.5 but I had 11 from 15-22″.
I also have a friend doing really good on the wapsi and maq.

I’ve been killing the walleye on pool’s 11,12,13 on the wing dams. You just have to fish a little harder because they are only on the dams with deeper water and more current. Same method’s as in june just a smaller jig and a bigger tail. 20″to 27″ on every trip a lot of 24″ and 25″ fish but we usually tussel with something bigger at least every other time out. We are still getting them on the cranks, try getting away from the bomber’s and try jointed rap’s in crawdad brown. If that doesn’t work the rebel deep craw always does. Let me know it you guys try this and are successful. Bryce Nannenga

In the dog days of summer in lakes I fish, the crappies suspend over structure, in the thermocline. To explain what this is the next time you swim let your feet hang down, when you feel the water get colder that is the thermocline. 1. Troll main lake structure. 2.Use a 1/32 ounce pink jig head. 3. Use a small shiner or a black crappie minnow. 4. Cast out as far as you can behind the boat and then pull off 4 more tugs of line. 5. Set your trolling motor on 2 or about .75 to 1.25 mph. 6. Pick up the pole and real in your crappie, don’t set the hook because you usually pull the hook out of their mouth. This method works almost anywhere. I’ve had great success in clear water Wisconsin lakes as well as Iowa lakes like Big Creek & Saguema. Let me know how it works. One more thing once you located them make 3 or 4 passes as you will pick them up every pass.

Still getting them on the dunes huh! I haven’t been down that way for a little while. I did really good there in May, trolling bombers and raps, was this your approach. While down that way did you fish the wind dam kitty corner to the dunes. I always get a good one their.
