There has been 2 state records in pool 4 in the last 30 years. The first was found dead during a drought. The second came from some woman that caught one early in the morning, put it on a stringer, drug it around all day, the weighed it. It was like 1-2 oz shy of breaking the record. My money would have to go to pool 4.

I was just joking, true there is no waste but I let everything go that I have no use for.

I would love to get them used up. This is the first year I have ever done this. So far the results have been fair at best. Hopefully I can get out at least 1 more time before they spawn.

One of them was hooked, that died. Maybe the stress of it all took a toll on them because 2 more died today. But the 10 that are left seem healthy. I will have to try that rubbermaid idea though seems

If I had to pick just one rod I would go with my 6’3″ St. Croix Eyecon. Best jigging rod I have ever used.

Vertical jigging with 1/16 oz jigs and a piece of crawler was what we used to win.

scratch that about the spark plug didn’t pay attention to the fact its a 4 stroke if it was that it would run like garbage

It could be a fuel related problem also check and make sure all 4 cylinders are getting spark, I had a problem like that with my 90 horse johnson last summer turns out I just knocked a spark plug wire lose. If thats not the case possibly in need of having the carbs or injectors cleaned out (whichever it has). Just a couple of simple things to check out

How long does it typically take to start having decent action down in Lake city?

Usually around the time the fish start biting

all the commotion might have the water all stirred up and could have smaller fish feeding on stuff coming up from the bottom which means bigger fish could be feeding on them, I wouldn’t write that spot off without giving it a shot first. Just a thought

If you don’t want to spend a ton of money the gander mountain guide series reals seem to be good, I have had one for over 6 years now and it still runs strong caught a lot of fish with it just another option

Using blades vertically IMO is fairly simple, the ripping them up 3′ is usually a good way to snag stuff. But in my experience a quick snap of a little stiffer 6’6″ rod with braided line will send the bait up a foot or so and then keep your line tight on the way down. Most of the fish that try to eat the bait tend to hit it (IMO) seem to come on the way up after it slows just a bit from the initial snap of the rod. My guess is its more of a reaction strike the fish sees something that might be food zipping past them and they just try to eat it instinctively. It also seems to work better for me when the water has some color to it. However there are still a fair amount of snagged fish doing it this way but not as bad as ripping the crap out of the blade bait.
