I have tried Canes, CFA, Popeyes— and many others. All I can say is Slim Chicken beats them all hands down. The only problem is the only location I know of is Sioux Falls. That being said if you are in Sioux Falls give Slim Chicken a try and thank me later.

James, you and I go way back. You were a guide on Pool 4 and the boy and I were around on the river most weekends. Time has marched on and the boy is now a man and you and I have aged a bit. I no longer hit the river much and South Dakota is now home but I try to check in on you Sunday mornings. I was watching this morning and your announcement was like a kick to the stomach. My first thought was wondering about your health and if everything was alright in your life. After reading your explanation I breathed a sigh of relief. Way to go!!!!! Congratulations and I hope this decision brings much happiness to you and your families lives. I also hope our paths cross again and you remember this old redneck.
February 19, 2022 at 8:52 pm #2101215I haven’t been on this site in months and stop by and see all the old crew on this post. Those are some great memories. Deano trying to keep BK in line and keep Redneck cracker in stock. You can’t think back to that time without thinking about River Rat Randy and his laughter. Those were some really really good times!!!!!!
August 18, 2021 at 4:08 pm #2055390I still find it hard to think about Randy without tearing up. Randy was everything that was good about the river. He truly enjoyed being on the river and he was the best fisherman I have ever met. The thing about Randy was he did not need the newest or fanciest equipment to put huge walleye in the boat. He understood them and their habits and their migration. Randy will live on as the knowledge he shared gets passed from generation to generation. Everyone that knew Randy learned something from him. The line I use on my 3 ways is from a tip Randy gave me. Same goes for my hooks. Sorry if this is long but the loss of my friend still hurts so bad. Some people leave a hole to big to fill and Randy was one of those people.
February 28, 2020 at 12:39 pm #1918832FTR guy here too. I was 50th person to join back in the day. Many good memories of the old ARM events and everyone taking “the boy” under their wing. Where has the time gone????
November 8, 2018 at 10:28 am #1808521I wonder if the powers that be have thought about the economic consequences of their new regulations. Pool 4 has been a regular destination in the Spring for many of the major tournament trails. These tournaments fill the hotels, restaurants and local businesses with money at a normally slow time of year. With the proposed regs I have to believe they will look elsewhere. Like RRR has stated—- Pool 4 has been fine for the last 60 years and it is the people who run it that have changed. People with the attitude of —why does anyone need more than 4 walleyes— that are worrying about what is in someone else’s livewell. There are people who pay good money to come to the area and fish a time or two a year and to gripe about them having 6 walleyes is pretty silly. Pool 4 is a unique and very special place and it is just fine with the regs we have.
October 26, 2018 at 8:21 pm #1806078Eric,
Due to unforeseen circumstances Rich Simmons and Dillon VanHolland will not be fishing tomorrow. I think we are in 10th starting place. I will be thinking of you and your family tomorrow. I guess the good news in my streak of another year without my name on the trophy continues.
RichMay 15, 2018 at 1:20 pm #1774851Way to go Jesse!!!! Fourth is a good finish for that one. Lots of the local guys usually lock it up. Did they change the rules? I thought you weighed either big fish or bag but couldn’t do both. Maybe that was a different tourney on the Croix.
April 17, 2018 at 1:50 pm #1768595Don’t even look for any Redneckcracker plastics Son. I think BK scooped them all up again. All I could find were hideous pink something or other!!!!

April 17, 2018 at 9:55 am #1768526When you are right you are right BK. I should write a book called “The BOY that IDO raised”. I can honestly say that IDO and the friends we have made here has enriched our lives and made my BOY far better than anything I have done. Every person you mentioned played a part in helping Chris grow into the amazing young man he is today. I dare say everyone you mentioned also will chuckle when they read this thinking back on the Boy and the memories of him growing up. To say I am a proud Dad is an understatement. Happy Birthday Son!!!! You are an amazing young man but you will always be “the boy” to me and a few others here!!!!!
June 19, 2017 at 8:40 am #1699760When the voltage regulator on my 90 horse Merc fried the wiring I contacted Dean at SBC in Ramsey and he had a mechanic on his staff that worked on Mercs. Great job at a fair price. Not sure how close to you that is or if they still have a Merc guy but something to check out.
May 18, 2017 at 6:07 am #1694717Wow, reading that old report was a trip down memory lane!!! Back in those days I was just learning the river with a “boy” giving me advice from the passenger seat. No matter how far off the beaten path I was James or Dustin would shoot by with a wave and a smile. James, would you happen to be talking about the regular here who tried to plow a trough through the back channel sandbar during an ARM event??? Let it be known that thanks to a kicker motor I did make it back to Everts and that is the most sand I have ever seen come out of a motor. No matter what you do the river will reach out and grab you once in a while so learn to roll with the punches. I lost a blade off a prop coming out of fishermans cut on a deadhead that was totally under the water—it happens. As far as advice for running the river—I have made every mistake out there and I am still at it so just use your head and learn to smile and laugh at yourself. Life is too short to worry about a scuff on a boat or a dinged up prop. I probably have the record for shortest prop life—-I think I took one out within 15 minutes of putting it on. Caught a bunch of fish that day though so I will count it as a win!!!
March 20, 2017 at 9:55 am #1682478“The Quiet Man”. I just watched it the other night for the 719th time. Not your typical John Wayne movie but a darn good one.
March 2, 2017 at 2:59 pm #1678260At 7 Saturday morning I don’t think there will be much tanning. About the time it gets over it will be getting warm. That is the way it usually is—at least on the good years.
March 1, 2017 at 3:20 pm #1677924Dan is one of the good guys. If ya got a few bucks laying around this would be a good place to send it. Anyone that is a regular on the river has talked to Dan or seen him at least. He loves to walleye fish and he loves the Lord. Pretty good combination in my book.
February 22, 2017 at 9:34 am #1675996Mike, Lenny and BK— not many of us old timers around from the old ARM events and get togethers. If this works out we should make sure Mr. Holst, Dustin, Gianni, Mr. Koonce, Mr. Man Pretty and the rest of the crew get invites. It would be fun to do some of those then and now pictures. I have one somewhere of my boy shore fishing after fishing about 36 hours straight. I think I have some somewhere of the monsoon and James and Dustin trying to keep the tent up in a rainstorm. Those were some fun times.
February 16, 2017 at 7:10 am #1674446Hey there, I resemble those remarks. I remember the old breast pump thread—-there were a lot of comedians around back then. Those were the good old days—-fish bucks, Rivereyes pictures, ARM events—heck, I even caught a fish or two back then.
January 11, 2017 at 8:52 am #1664398When my Merc motor voltage regulator burned up my wiring Skeeter Boat Center took care of it. They have a good Mercury mechanic and Dean was more than helpful—as usual.
October 28, 2016 at 6:45 am #1647590What a touching and heartfelt tribute. We are all touched in our lives by those special people who share their knowledge and wisdom freely and by doing so pass it on to generations to come. I am sure Jerry saw in you the passion he had as a young man and reveled in your success every bit as much as you did. Jerry and Emily are together without pain or worry now and I am sure they are smiling from your emotional words. I had an Uncle who took me under his wing and started me down the road of a lifetime of hunting and fishing. When I was a grown man and many miles from him I called him to thank him and let him know how much it meant to me. He was humble about it all and wanted to know about how my son and his outdoor adventures were going. Not much after that he passed away and I was so thankful I had made that call. Thank you for bringing back those memories and I am sorry for your loss but look at how much you gained.
