I think it’s just a matter of time. If not sooner than eventually. The reason I think it will lose out is the argument you have to make to the general public is a toxic substance is required for a by and large recreational purpose. Whether this is hunting, sport shooting, fishing, etc. I dont see it surviving over time if there are alternatives. It started with waterfowl hunting, expanded to WPAs and will eventually be eliminated. The toxic nature of lead will trump the potential additional cost of the alternatives.
February 24, 2014 at 11:10 am #1352689I’ve been watching the Mn DNR WSI map and last winter isn’t even close to this winter for the Mora to Duluth area. Even with the late snow and ice out of 2013 this winter probably surpassed the entirety of last winter sometime in January. I have my 2014 deer season expectations set low. I have expect going back to doe permits for much of Zone 1.
February 11, 2014 at 9:20 am #1352629One of the biggest things I notice is some kind of hook or hanger. Hunting in popple country I don’t always have a limb to use for hanging gear.
Another thing we added to all our stand locations is a leash to hoist gear. Nice to have a rope or leash already set to go when arriving at the stand.

They use scrap lead but how will that not be impacted. It has to start someplace. There has to be a source.
It will probably have a stamp on it “Made in China”.December 4, 2013 at 11:28 am #1351526In general lead is slowly getting phased out. Paint, gasoline, solder, shot for waterfall, etc. Relating to health concerns they started with people and are moving down the list.
November 20, 2013 at 1:20 pm #1351164My Introduction to deer hunting is exactly as Stillakid2 describes. As a young hunter, whether driving or posting it was always emphasized what the drive was, where the posters were, how long to expect the drive will last, where to look for drivers/posters, etc. What it did do is give you an opportunity to learn the woods, work with the compass and learn to be aware of your surroundings. Obviously, there are potential safety issues but that goes with all hunting. Planning, coordination & safety are all essential parts to any drive hunting scenario. You encounter some of the same issues upland bird hunting or sitting in a waterfowl blind.
November 20, 2013 at 11:31 am #1351161I just did some online searches and it looks like the Mn statewide harvest peaked in 2003 and has slowly dropped since. 290,000+ registered in 2003 and only 192,000+ registered in 2011. It would likely be hard to pin anything on one specific management tool.

Hello, First post on this side.
I go thru this on just about everything… I’m in a constant state of picking up or expanding activities and setting ones aside. I commonly get into something for a few years and then fall into the “Been there, Done that” mentality. I may revisit them down the road or may not. I have so much accumulated gear from hunting, fishing, camping, bikes, kayaks, skis, camera equip, etc. They all provide a different avenue to the same base: OUTDOORS. For the ones I hold onto for a longer period of time I find myself approaching them them from a different angle, challenge or perspective otherwise I get bored with them.
Do you have any old friends??
Sad but so true
BTW… Tonneau cover is working great.November 18, 2013 at 2:10 pm #1351099Hello, First post on this side.

March 1, 2008 at 9:33 pm #660796sorry to hijack the thread, but drove by the dam this morning on my way back from checking out credit island and saw all the boats, at least two dozen. what I didnt see was a place I could fish from shore, I’m on the IA side, i parked behind that VFW to take a look and didnt see anything. Is there any place a boatless fisherman can wet a line around there? thanks
