I have done only one walleye tournament. It was a lot of fun. Highs and lows in the same weekend. We were on fish the first day and nothing the second. Middle of the pack the first day and scrambled the second. The rest of the field did well the second. Being my first tournament I was curious how others handle most tournaments. Using your electronics is sound advice. Prefishing is very important. I got out three times with some success not very confident. Thanks for advice and experiences.

These are interesting experiences. I was wondering because I just fished my first walleye tournament and was into fish in one area that were cookie cutter size. That was fine because after day one we were in the middle of the pack. Day two however we were in the mindset to go search other areas for bigger fish. Needless to say that didn’t go so well and caught zero walleyes. We should have just grinded out the same spot for if anything to feel like we did something. Lesson learned.
September 7, 2020 at 5:28 pm #1971058Do the sell just the head unit? I already have Lite-Flite drill. I will only need the head unit.
July 6, 2020 at 10:22 am #1954857Thanks for all the great insight and advice. I will put those things to use when choosing the right one.
July 5, 2020 at 10:43 pm #1954784First of all, not funny about the wife joke. Second is yes the boat will fit the longer rod. I am going to throw jigs of 1/4 and heavier and throw jig raps, ripping raps and thinking about using it for bottom bouncers.
May 9, 2020 at 11:49 am #1941174All great tips, I will try both reels and check balance. Always good to hear from others experience and lessons.
May 9, 2020 at 11:46 am #1941172I met “The Baron” at the Post Office I work at. His mother in law lived in my hometown. What a great guy, super nice and down to earth. He went into character after I figured out who he was. The highlight of my postal career.
April 13, 2020 at 8:26 pm #1933773Watching Head 2 Head walleye fishing live. Another contest starts tomorrow I think around 8. Interesting tournament fishing.
August 23, 2019 at 3:29 pm #1875340Not much of a hint. Always ready for hints…. or just put time in on the water.
August 22, 2019 at 12:02 pm #1875124I believe the mussels have been in the lake for about 5-8 years. I know that the catching of walleyes by a few league members have told me that each league only caught one in each league with about 12 teams. I know that the DNR did a survey this year on most area lakes including Minnewaska. May have been a special survey, not sure. I fished the lake only once this year hitting other lakes in the area. You guys may be right about the change in techniques and maybe the time of day/night. Lots of bass touneys this year, no shortage of them. Thanks for all the inputs and thoughts.
April 22, 2019 at 9:56 pm #1852437According to Diawa website the Revros LT 2000 has a max drag of 11#
April 12, 2019 at 11:48 am #1850314very different for the weekend fisherman and the guy who is guiding clients for a living. Not trying to frustrate you Randy or get defensive, just was curious about my new adventure in the sport.
April 11, 2019 at 9:47 pm #1850198I have scattered thoughts at times. My thinking drifts every now and then. I guess being new to boat fishing, I wasn’t sure if 5 rods was too much compared to other boat/walleye fisherman. I guess 5 is not too many by all the answers you guys have told me. Thanks for all responses.
April 11, 2019 at 10:36 am #1849998Do think that having so many rods is a sickness or a necessity? I was just wondering how many because I know that a person needs/ uses rod setups for different situations. If I see a lure that or shirt that I like, I buy and tell my wife that I didn’t have one. The fishing industry as whole is attracting fisherman not so much as the fish. Let’s face it we are addicted to stuff. I wouldn’t call it a (loaded) question. We need it because we don’t have it.
April 8, 2019 at 10:30 pm #1849323I (so far) have 4 rods
1. 7 ft med/fast for bottom bouncers 10lb braid
2. 7 ft ML/fast for snap raps 10lb hi vis braid 8lb floro leader
3. 6’6″ Lt/fast for bobber 8bl floro
4. 6’3″ Md/extra fast for jigging 10lb braid 8lb mono
5. maybe one for leadcore trolling. (still thinking about it, probably will)April 5, 2019 at 6:23 am #1848483Ok that makes sense. Appreciate the answers. I sometimes have a difficult time explaining it in words. It makes sense in my head though, just doesn’t come out right.
April 4, 2019 at 7:58 pm #1848437What I was talking about Ron was to charge not the two batteries but the one for cranking over the engine.Only one battery for that.
April 2, 2019 at 4:18 pm #1847896You are correct, I don’t have one. Looks like a nice feature to have. But you know how boats are, $$$$$$
April 1, 2019 at 11:38 am #1847584Thanks for all the great ideas guys. Like it was said, I will experiment with what I have. All good knowledge from all so I can feel more confident on the water. The main part is to just go and have fun and learn along the way.
April 1, 2019 at 11:31 am #1847583I already have one separate battery dedicated for turning over big motor. I will have a charging system in place too. It just takes time and of course money. Weekend project coming soon to me.
March 31, 2019 at 7:14 pm #1847437Thanks Matt, long winter to think about what to do and then many questions. I want to get as much info so as not to waste more money than I have to.
March 31, 2019 at 6:57 pm #1847432you guys are giving me great ideas in that I haven’t bought trolling motor batteries yet and will go bigger than i originally thought. I have an Alumacraft 1675 Magnum tiller. Not that heavy.
