Voyageurs National Park Winter Trail Conditions Report 1/18/12

International Falls, Minnesota: Currant snowfall within the park is bringing excellent riding conditions on trails. Travel along the lake trails offers snowmobilers a ride though a national park with opportunities to view wildlife and scenic grandeur. The park invites Ice Box Days participants to come out to Voyageurs during their Stay.

    Snowmobile Trail Report
Hazardous pressure ridges are still present, but colder weather has slowed their movement. Snowmobilers should continue to use extreme caution and only cross the pressure ridges at designated crossings along staked routes. Slow travel speeds are highly recommended. Snowmobile land portages have rough riding conditions due to minimal snow cover. Crews will begin grooming trails next week.

International Falls to Kettle Falls (Purple Trail) – Open &Staked
Rainy Lake/Black Bay to Kabetogama Lake to Ash River (Green Trail) – Open & Staked
Ash River to Crane Lake (Green Trail) – Open & Staked
Chain of Lakes (Dashed Black Trail) – Not Open
Ash River to Kettle Falls (Yellow Trail) – Open & Staked
East Namakan Lake to Sand Point Lake (Blue Trail)- Open & Staked

    Rainy Lake Ice Road Report
Due to improved ice conditions, the Rainy Lake Ice Road is now open to Cranberry Bay. Crews will check ice next week to determine if there is sufficient ice to open the loop around Dryweed Island.

What a great photo Chris, the SNOW sure has arrived over the past few days , but now all we need is some ice. With about a foot of snow on the ground it’s time to think about Ice Fishing, Snowmobiling and of course Christmas shopping. Here at Rainy Lake One Stop we carry the Otter fish houses & sleds, Jiffy augers, Vexilar flashers, Clam-ice armor, HJC snowmobile clothing & helmets, and so much much more for your winter fishing needs. New for us this year is the Frabill sno suit, we are very excited about this items and can’t wait to see the response.
Stop in have a cup of coffee and take a look around.

We also have a great opportunity for full and part time work, e-mail me at [email protected] if you would like to find out more.

A Rainy Lake House Boat vacation on Rainy Lake is something like nothing else, and this film captures it all. The Dougherty Family & staff at Rainy Lake House Boats are wonderful and make you feel like you are right at home, of course upon entering a house boat you realise that this is not an normal camping trip; no setting up tents, no blowing up air mattreses, no hauling coolers from the boat to your camping site, and no late night walks threw the woods to the bathroom. You do of course still get to take it starry nights on Rainy Lake.

You guys made my cabin fever even worse with this video

Hey Laura…….If your following this thread I’m going to attempt to organize a Take the Kids fishing event here on Rainy Lake. Probably next February due to my scheduling conflicts. I’d like to involve our sponsors, and local guides to help with the event. Would you like to help promote through the One Stop?? I think it would be fun!!

We could not be more excited to help with an event like this!!! I read an artical online yesterday about how take a kid fishing Clinics are being offered Saturday, Feb. 13, at Lake Bronson near Hallock, Lake Carlos near Alexandria and Bear Head Lake near Ely. Lake Bemidji State Park offers a Berrrmidji Kids’ Ice Fishing event on Sunday, Feb. 14. Kids ages 8-15 can join the Lake Bemidji State Park naturalist for an afternoon of perch fishing on Lake Bemidji. Hayes Lake State Park near Warroad offers its Ice Fishing Clinic on Saturday, Feb. 27.
I think Rainy Lake needs something like this and can not be more excited to get involed myself and for Rainy Lake One Stop.

What a great post Chris. Not only is my favorite part watching them reel in the big one, but its starts with them picking out the perfect minnows, leaning over the minnow tanks standing on their tippy toes on the stool making sure they are first in line to grab the minnow bag and haul it to the boat. Just the pure enjoyment of how excited they are to do a sport we all love.

This morning felt like a real winter morning, a light dusting of snow, fishermen wating at the doors to come in and get their minnows and hot coffee . At the moment we have
Chubs and Heavy Northern, but tonight we will add Rosies and Crappie to the list. We are crossing our fingers that next week we can make a trip down to our other bait dealer to get some shiners.
Our Vexilars are open the next two weekends, but come January we have at least one vexilar out everyweekend, so that means we have one vexilar open for rental. Give Rainy Lake One Stop a call (218) 286-5700 to see if we have one availabe for your fishing dates.
