I got an lx 6 and my buddy has the Ice 55 and when we fish in the two man otter he can’t see nothin on his flasher because of the interference from my lx6. My screen is crystal clear. I fish next to my brother who has an lx5 and we have no trouble fishing side by side with both units on. And now… Yep you guessed it my buddy wants a marcum!
When I had the 55 I had no issues ever fishing beside a Marcum. The IR was one of the better features of the unit as you could block it out from any unit at anytime. Target seperation was bigger than the Marcum but I don’t know a lot of people that are worried about putting their bait down and only targeting one bigger fish in a school of three panfish. Some fisherman dont have the option and aren’t able to take off every weekend to go to certain lakes and target those kind of numbers of fish and be able to really be concerned about fine tuning the unit. I have had all three and do have a LX-7 now and like the unit. Funny thing is with mine, I have left version 1.1 in it and haven’t had an issue with anything I am reading on here on a daily basis as each unit gets an update. To each his own on the flashers. Every fisherman fishes in a different way and I know a lot of people that still fish the Fl-8 that can put big numbers of fish on the ice. I also know some old boys that have been fishing the river for more years than I’ve been alive that still out fish people with flashers and they don’t own one!

December 28, 2012 at 5:40 pm #1124752I owned a 55 for a couple of years. I had no problems with the unit. Its very simple to use. Target seperation would be my only concern as I have now upgraded to an lx-7. I seen the lx-9 and that is too much going on and I really don’t like cameras anyway. To find structure is about the only use I get out of them. The lx-7 has really impressed me so far and I’m not partial to marcum, I just want the best unit out there for my style of fishing and so far found it to be the lx-7
March 17, 2012 at 12:12 pm #1050003What style are you looking for in a jig head? Lmk Thanks. I just poured around 500 and will be pouring againg this upcoming week.
March 5, 2012 at 10:12 pm #1046381I bought one this weekend and seen no issues whatsoever. Right out of the box to the charger to the ice. I haven’t put the upgrade in yet. It’s hands down the best unit I’ve ever fished with. I’ve had all vexilars and ice-55 and the lx-7 blows them out of the water.

Hey Guys, lets remember one important thing the guy who makes the original “glitter heads” @ Evert’s NEEDS TO EARN A LIVING TOO!!!! I doubt you’ll produce anything near as nice …..Just my thoughts..
I’m curious to know. Who did make the “original” glitter head? I’ve seen them long before I’ve ever heard of Bfishin. Hutch has had them down this way since the first time I’ve fished P10 over 25 years ago. He still sells them to this day.
February 2, 2012 at 4:28 am #1034495Yes I heard that. He was tangled in his tent. I couldn’t even imagine…..
January 28, 2012 at 9:04 pm #1032980We just got one on a tip up at DeSoto about 2 hrs ago that had those “spots” on it! Seem to be fairly common up here.

James,
If 2.5 is the latest software version out and some of you are testing 3.0, why is 2.5 being withheld from the public?
Or did I misunderstand you.
There are guys down here in my neck of the woods that are having issues with their LX7’s as well that it sounds like the past software updates would take care of.
MarCum is developing an update that will have all the findings of MarCum’s prostaff testing so that you should only have to update this unit once to get multiple updates. As technology advances and staff tests new updates, those new updates will be available in the future. Trust me it would be more trouble to release all these updates individually vs. one update that enhances the unit multiple ways.
I talked to Chris Hansen yesterday. He is the director of PR for Marcum. He told me that within the next two weeks V2 will be available for download off the website for us customers. Bad news is, he told me 2.5 won’t be on the shelf until next year!! Seems like a long time to me, but if that’s what it takes to get the unit the way they want it, then so be it!
January 24, 2012 at 5:05 am #1031374Andy, first three days of March this year for slabs. Kind of a tradition now. You gonna be around?
January 22, 2012 at 5:55 pm #1030949Where are these downloads? Off the Marcum website or a different site?
January 21, 2012 at 3:32 pm #1030796I called Marcum yesterday to find out some info. The person I talked to wasn’t sure what version they were sending out from the factory right now. I asked him about a V2 version leaving the factory now to be on shelves and he was like “Ugggggghhhhhh I think so”. So my understanding is that when I buy a unit this weekend, I may have V1 or V2 installed but the V2 version is available to be downloaded?
January 21, 2012 at 12:34 pm #1030761Thanks Ryan. Whitefish are commonly mistaken as something that is NOT good tablefare. Nothing could be further from the truth. I’ll trade a bucket full of Walleyes or Crappies for Whitefish any day of the week.
I would have to agree. The first time you told us to keep one up there I was pretty skeptical because the look like your common “rough” fish. Boy was I wrong! Great eats right there

I was just at Gander and they are out of ice rod cases for the season. JOKE.
Good thing I would never spend a dollar at that store.
January 18, 2012 at 2:20 pm #1029335Granrud I’ve seen yours in action and withstand a helluva beating on the ice and it does stand up and do the trick. I have thrown around the idea of the gun case as well. I may go with otter becaue of the well know name is ice fishing and possibly them standing behind their product if anything fails such has the hinges. I like to carry five rods and do have some very expensive reels that I definately do not want to get knocked around at all. I have the Ice Armour one right now and it’s like trying to put a puzzle together to get them in there and if something would fall on that case I still wonder if it would even protect them. My guess is no. I appreciate the comments.

Thanks for the specific advice, particularly the one above that says EXACTLY what to do. Now does anyone know where I might find some of these near Minneapolis (nuggies, ratso, wedgies, etc.)? I went to Dick’s because I have some giftcards but thier ice fishing section had none of the items above, much less much of anything. Joe’s Sporting Goods is a store I like going to that is somewhat close, and Fleet Farm and Gander are a bit of a drive. Or are these only available, or easist to get online? I’m in the mood to drop $40 or so and get a small variety of items. I want to believe in plastics so bad…
I have used plastics for many many years. Back to the days when “willow tails” were still around and if I could find them again I would buy them in bulk! Seems to me the the thinner profile tail looks more realistic in the water and has a lot more action than some of the thicker tail plastics out there. I am impressed with Custom Jigs and Spins ratso tail. I buy all 1.5″ tails can you can always cut some plastic off to fit the profile lure you are fishing. Diamond jig with a ratso tail is killer on pannies around here. I have used them on gill pills as well. Also like stated above a rembrant is a great lure for panfish. Having confidence in the bait you are using I think is also a big thing in ice fishing so with plastics you can still tip with euro larve or some kind of bait until bait is not needed. Some days I know they want meat, but the majority of the time you can catch as many or more with just plastics. Check out the ratso line of plastics and give them a try. I don’t think you will be disappointed!!

Maybe we’ll see an “On Ice” segment on using plastics.
Aaaah!! Maybe you will!! We start Crappie fishing in February and I like to use many different forms of plastics out of the Custom Jigs and Spins line. I use them on Diamond jigs for quick drops. At times they are KILLER!!
I’ll vouch for that!
