You can shine ’em if they are treed by dogs. That won’t change. This law will only effect those who are calling them with a predator call.

Well, yesterday I was at the capital to testify on our bill. One rep has stated he is against it completely and vowed to fight it. When I got there I was blind sided by a “compromise.” To make a long story short… there was some discussion between me and several involved in the process and we decided to take the compromise.
The compromise is that we only use shotguns while using lights and that we not use lights for raccoons.
In the next week or so I’ll be heading back down to the capital to testify at the senate.

For some reason this won’t let me copy a post I made on another board….
Bottom line is that bills have been introduced into the senate (SF3056) and house (HF3395). Now is the time for Minnesotans to get off their butts and get in gear if they ever want to use lights to hunt predators with.
Please write your legislators and ask them to support the above bills.
Don’t leave it for someone else to do. We need this last push if we are going to pass it.
Please ask everyone you can think of to write to their legislators as well.

Coonhounder,
Check the new regs. Yup, there’s a coon season now.
Farmboy1,
I’ll keep you posted. I’ve got a plan.

Thanks for the welcome guys. I’ve received several emails from folks from here wanting to help. That’s great!
We’ll get this law changed and will be stacking up the fur next winter!

The season isn’t on the coyote, it’s on the use of lights. The season is one of the “give and takes” we did with the DNR in order to get their approval and support. They were concerned with the idea that lights not be used during deer season so Jan 1st is the start date because it’s after all deer seasons are closed. We closed the light season on March 15th because that’s when the fox and raccoon season will close from here on out.

Correct!
But, I have a plan with which to do that effectively. Those willing, email me so that I can keep you all informed about how and more importantly WHEN we need to do this!!
This is my firt time finding your site. I’ve got to work today and teach a class tonight. In the next few days I look forward to taking some time to look over your site. With fishing season coming on, I’m getting pretty eager to get that boat in the water!

Guys,
I just want to clarify a few things here. First off, the MN DNR is NOT against this proposal. In fact, the final wording was run through the DNR division of enforcement and was approved by their legal department. So, in reality, they are on our side! That’s great news.
I have also drummed up a great deal of support in the legislature. The bill will be introduced to committee shortly and if it gets out of committee (which I’m almost certain of) then it will go to the floor in the senate and house.
Basically what this will do is to change the wording of the current shining law to allow artificial lights for hunting coyotes, foxes (red and grey) and raccoons as long as the hunter is at least 200 ft from a vehicle, not in a road right of way and using a hand held or electronic caller. The season for this will be Jan 1st through March 15th.
I am in need of some very dedicated sportsmen to help me once this bill gets a number assigned. If you are willing to help, please email me at [email protected] Or, if you have any questions, feel free to email me.
Thanks again.
