I hear ya, I just conversed some more with my friend tonight and yes we plan to fish some large spoons as well as toss some super sized swimbaits to see if we cant turn a few big pike that way. I know I have a few oversize bluefox bucktails I plan to give a try

Thanks much, I think we will plan to fish a lot of jig and plastic as well as said spoons like you had said. Clarify on the ganghook thing for me if you would. – QB
June 6, 2014 at 12:22 pm #1414687BullCans – We are trolling right now from about 5-8 fow.
MaskedWalleye – Spinner rigs turned some fish for us as well, we were using revolution spinners by VMC with green and orange blades, running two hook harnesses.
We do use spinners and crawlers in some places as well as with the speed of trolling spinners especially in rod holders allowed one or two of us to be casting with said cranks. Once you figure out what is hitting and working well it was fairly easy for everyone to switch over to the cranks for some more past paced action and the ability to cover water faster. – QB
June 5, 2014 at 10:19 pm #1414551If your willing to go south I know that West Bend area has been good with spinners and crawlers as well as a slow death hook with a crawler and perhaps a bead ahead of the hook. I have buddy that fishes up above more as the year goes on now I will see If I can gather some information from him for ya. – QB
June 3, 2014 at 10:35 pm #1414080Solid work Wes, big gators casting is awesome stuff. Love the bone shattering hits – QB
June 3, 2014 at 10:33 pm #1414079Im sure they will remember the nights dad let em break bedtime, nice work. – QB
May 16, 2014 at 12:40 pm #1410809I was gonna guess well over 20 thousand. I think this is a testament to what it takes to make this show happen. When you and Ben show up to Sodak and your eyes look like roadmaps I know the head has not been hitting the pillow for a sufficient amount of time. Keep Grindin – QB
May 13, 2014 at 8:00 am #1409997Nice report, I am heading that way in a week so excited for some salmon action. As far as having salmon stick to your grill if you dont have a plank run the fillet in olive oil and lay down a flat piece of tin foil right on your grill great works great. – QB
May 13, 2014 at 6:51 am #1409969Yes 7mph is about what you should be able to achieve. I have done this with James up on Lake Superior as well as for Salmon on Lake Michigan. James would ultimately be a better source of knowledge on this but I know we were achieving 7 foot per color at roughly that speed. – QB
May 6, 2014 at 9:50 am #14087486’8 MXF, quick pickup and buries the hooks right away run with 6-10lb hi vis suffix 832 with a floro leader. – QB
May 6, 2014 at 9:47 am #1408747I would say pricewise if you wanna stay under 100 check out some cabelas type rod or cheaper rods. It is a bobber rod so feel doesnt have to be great. I would also suggest perhaps a medium weigth with a slower taper and action. It is dark out you have an idea of how much slack you have out but at the same time an 8’6 rod gives you so much forgiveness with wind and play in the line, allowing for better hooksets. – QB
May 6, 2014 at 9:44 am #1408745^^ Ditto, also medium size swimbaits hopped along with some quick uplifts will get a reaction strike out of these big females.- QB
May 6, 2014 at 9:42 am #1408744I have run the strikemaster as well as the frabill snow suit. The strikemaster bibs are a greatbib for the money. They are lightweight and warm. I run them with a pair of carhartt pants and some longjohns if needed. – QB
May 6, 2014 at 8:41 am #1408727Interesting, out in Sodak when I have clear water usually anyting works but tinglers or silver and gold jigs work well. In cloudy water like a guy would think rattle spoons or vibrating blade type baits work well. How many times have you been fishing the darker water, could it have something to do with such as time of day or weather perhaps. Just trying to think it through some more. When in doubt tho perhaps try like already stated a chunk of cralwer on a plain hook. – QB
April 29, 2014 at 12:27 pm #1407067This time of the year it can be catch 22 and can go either way in my opinion, but more cooling of water than warming of water from experience. – QB
April 23, 2014 at 1:00 am #1405631I don’t know nearly enough about winterkill and conditions but wat suprised me is that last year didnt winterkill when the ice was on the lake for probably 3 weeks longer with alot more snow. With the size of Rush it is hard to say though last year the way the wind blew following Ice off could have dictated where the dead fish blew off. Who knows just a theory. – QB
April 20, 2014 at 3:21 am #1405142Chamberlain remains well for people that are finding fish. I have been chasing snows and turkeys as of the last 10 days but friends are still catching fish. I know areas around the mouth of the white river as well as chamberlain Rip Rap has been good. Jigs and Minnows contineu to produce. River fish change daily, but depths of 12-14fow seem to be best. – QB
April 20, 2014 at 3:17 am #1405141I dont know exactly how they do the nettings in SD it seems to be cyclic. I know we were catching alot of eyes late ice on Bluedog, so late that people were already fishing the culvurts. I am sure there is some die off but if there was any significant die off it would be very noticeable. – QB
April 18, 2014 at 2:28 am #1404926I prefer #10 husky Jerks and #10 X-raps for early season shallow cranking. The X-rap which is known for being fishing very aggressively also makes a great bait fished slowly. Some slow reels with a few more up tempo tugs of the bait will give you some nice hits early on. Great search lure as well if you like to fine tune and then livebait.- QB
April 18, 2014 at 2:24 am #1404925I agree with the last said post, LOTW and Rainy offer chances as big fish, odds go way up on a body of water like Winnipeg, or Erie. Depending on your situation hire a guide and even more ensure you will hook up with that double digit weight fish.- QB
April 18, 2014 at 2:18 am #1404924I think he mentioned he wanted to stay in Minnesota, South Dakota is routinely tough in September . – QB
April 18, 2014 at 2:14 am #14049222500 for me, can cast farther and less line coiling going on. In South Dakota I fish alot of swimbaits, and being able to quickly pick up line as well as ease of casting makes a big difference, in the same respect to each there own. – QB
April 16, 2014 at 5:56 pm #1404702Very Neat Fish, a true Giant. Fish like this keep a guy going, – QB
April 8, 2014 at 11:52 pm #1402816Very Awesome Fish, I havent done much research into the crappies of the South but had a friend from College that was from Southern Missouri and they use to catch some slab-Os. I would road trip to MS in a heartbeat if someone had a bead on some 3 pound plus slabs. – QB
April 8, 2014 at 11:47 pm #1402815Hi-Vis Tangerine from Suffix the 832 is awesome for line watching. I have not used it on the River alot out here but pitching shallow weedlines in the constant wind we have in South Dakota I have learned to watch the line alot compared to years past. – QB
