God help you all if you try to spar with Shorty! Not to long ago he told me that his life was going to get a lot easier. When I asked if he was going to retire he said ” no I’m just going to quit being nice to people !”

WoolyBugger,
If you want to have a real blast spend a day on the Alma fishing float in June when the whites are active. Fish with a light coloured mepps spinner or white jig in the top 3 feet of water with an ultra lite rod. then hold on.April 28, 2002 at 11:04 pm #242114Have been using and selling Power Pro for a few years now. I have found it to be the best of the super lines for me.It works great for spinning reels in the smaller test linesand doesn’t have the tendency to turn inside itself that some do.The larger sizes are great for catfishing. It may be new to Fleet Farm but we have carried it at lest 4 years.
April 19, 2002 at 8:00 pm #241509I have to agree with Crankybait, A Dupont spinner will win out every time!
April 17, 2002 at 1:30 pm #241316The DNR’s thinking is guided by statistics and percentages. If one person catches a 10lber that was released by someone else it doesn’t add up for them but it sure does for the 2nd fisherman.
April 17, 2002 at 12:59 pm #241313I’ve got to say that I’m really disheartened by some of the replies on this post. The I can afford a big boat and the he$$ with you atitude reflects todays general lack of respect for others. Also quite interesting how the the thread got turned away from us [fishermen] and towards cruisers. Check your behavior gentlemen!

Larsonlawyer confused you because he trys to steer people away from Alma. [By his own admision] don’t let him scare you off. Alma has fine fishing and great facilities. Check the report section for pool 5 latest report. The bait & tackle shop is in the cenex right across from the boat landing. It has a full supply of ringworms and Super-Doos plus killer jigs and any thing else you need for the river. We are also the registration station so I hope to see you with a big Tom. there is nothing wrong with pool 4 or Everts just trying to give you a clear picture. good luck and have funApril 5, 2002 at 12:08 am #240439Access to pool 5 via Alma is on the south side of town next to the power plant and across from the Countryside Coop [bait +tackle] . Plenty of parking room and the ramp is in good shape. Remember to be polite and help each other with loading + unloading it will go better for all. Have fun!

I have to be at a D.U. banquet that day but thanks a lot for the info How is the bite into the summer? Thinking about taking an ailing Father he needs plenty of action but size isn’t importantApril 4, 2002 at 10:34 pm #240424Jared,
I haven’t heard anything about names; Maybe you could name him after his great uncle——- Piscator Jr. has a nice ring to it. Call me at work or home tonight if you can.April 4, 2002 at 1:19 am #240378Just got another update contractions are 8 minutes apart and he got 7 walleyes and 7 saugers in last nights snow storm

If you spend so much time on pool 5 why aren’t you aware of the fish that are being caught.I’ve watched your posts for several weeks now and you are either out of date or just plain wrong most of the time. no one has seen you around here for weeks. Daddies boat is easy to spot.April 1, 2002 at 11:50 pm #240187Have been hearing this lament from old timers in this area for years. The story always starts with them telling about getting a stringer of 10 lbers in the morning then going back for another stringer in the evening. they never seem to get the conection.
Any fisheries biologist you ask will tell you that the only reason for a closed season would be a political one.April 1, 2002 at 11:35 pm #24018614AWall,
Everets isn’t the only shop on the river. if you fish pool 5 there is a full service bait shop on the south end of town less than 50 yards from the boat landing. Nice people good service. If I do say so myself. P.S. We also have 500 guns to look at.March 31, 2002 at 7:38 pm #240057I have heard some 2nd hand info from guys coming in the shop.Sounds like Fri. was a good day but Sat. was rough. Boat control was hard due to wind and the bite was slower. Not much info but better than nothing.
March 31, 2002 at 7:31 pm #240055Come North young man. 4 and 5 have been giving up some good fish. its not a gimmie but if you pay attention you should do allright.
March 29, 2002 at 2:05 pm #239965Riverrat Ease up on the Alma city crew. they just lost their superviser to cancer and are running with only 2/3rds of their normal crew.
March 25, 2002 at 3:49 am #239578Hey Riverrat. There was nothing casual about the conversation. We were discussing what kind of dynamite works best for cold water walleyes. You didn’t bring back those fillets you promised me. Say hi to that pretty wife of yours . Seeyou next week.
March 21, 2002 at 9:36 pm #239403The way to cook Redhorse is to cook them in a nuke then remove all large bones and run meat through a meat grinder rendering all the little bones safe then use any recipie for fish or crab cakes. Really good!
March 7, 2002 at 3:28 pm #238515I think that the rep. for snaging is unfortunate. If your snaging fish your not using them right. They only need slightly more action than a jig. The Heddons are best but way to costly. Of the generics I’ve used the Taylor tackle ones seem the best.
“hit em hard make em hurt”March 7, 2002 at 3:15 pm #238513Fireflick,
That would be great. I used to go to the Roch. meetings but the 100+ mile round trip was too much on a week day. I would be glad to go to a meeting with you to discuss a club on this sind of the crick.March 6, 2002 at 1:04 am #238390Instead of the mono why don’t you guys try Power Pro in lime green. It seems to work OK in the cold. Strong with no stretch. Cheaper and easier to work with than Fireline
February 27, 2002 at 1:29 am #237867I have had an aquarium at home and really had fun with it.Here in Wi. you don’t need a permit but you need to include any fish you keep in your possesion limit.Saugers seem to do better than Walleyes. Ciclid food will really bring out the colours in Sunfish.Rock bass will kill any other panfish in the tank including Crappies twice their size.
February 24, 2002 at 6:19 pm #237750Fireflick,
Not much competition here at Alma.I heard something about the power plant going online. what was the water temp? How do those nuked fish taste?February 24, 2002 at 3:04 pm #237743Take your wife for a good boat ride on the 5th and I’ll vote for the 6th.8lb 4oz.
February 24, 2002 at 2:46 pm #237740Fireflick,
Seems like just yesterday your dad and I would take you and your brothers fishing and spend all our time breaking up fights and untangling lines. I guess thats a sign of old age.Anyway, congrats again
