One recommendation would be to rent a SnoBear through Icebound excursions. https://www.snobearrental.ca/
Def worth it if you’ve never been out there.

Another option to look at is Mad Duck rods. They have a totally different handle seems kinda funny but is way more comfortable to hold.
Honda’s are great units, but I would also look into Yamaha units.
I know Costco has a 2000W max / 1600W running Yamaha for right around $550.
Its rated noise level for 65dBA
Honda EU2200i is at 2200W max / 1800W Running 59dBA cost about $950
Depending on your power needs and wallet I think Yamaha shouldn’t be over looked.
Champion also has a DUAL-FUEL 2800wt Running / 3100wt, Propane or Gas for $900
Personally if you’re in the market to upgrade, I’d just go with a M3 with a lithium shuttle. It’s $150 more than a “standard” and it has the USB plugs and lights.
But if your happy with a VX-1p upgrade to the lithium.
Also,if you’re sleeping on the ice you can not fillet them unless you have the oil hot. We will catch the limit and eat them and go out the next day and catch the limit again.
Looks like Morris Point is putting their day houses out today. Last update from Sunday the 3rd was 7 inches to 15 FOW. Sportsman’s says they will have an update today.
Im headed up there on the 17th as well.
Depending on how much you fish. I’d move to a M5 because it has the ability to change cone angles.
A M3 is definitely an upgrade because it has bottom zoom if you’re set on Vex, I’d at least go with a FL-18 for the same reason.
However, if the cord is just cut you can get transducers online or at Fleet Farm for under $100.
This week has been terrible to the lakes. Red lake is probably your best bet, I wouldnt venture anywhere on your own with out going through a resort that has marked trails. There may be some smaller lakes 3 plus hours north of the cities. I’d bring a spud and a life jacket.
next week temps start getting into the teens, which should help.
I would go with a LX5i if you can find one. There aren’t many left out there with the new M series being distributed.
I found a few lX5i’s at Cabelas in Rogers and they are $399. you can’t beat the price right now for what is out there. Depending on how much you fish and the need for the latest nd greatest should be your deciding factor as well as budget.
However you can get the M3/M5 with the lithium shuttle option for $599/ $699. which isn’t that bad considering the lithium shuttle is $250 alone.
You could also go to the Ice Fishing show this weekend and probably get some good deals on flashers.
Hows the ice up there? I’m thinking about heading out Saturday afternoon and heading back around 8pm.
I really think it depends on how much you fish.
Occasional ice fisher I always recommend FL-18 for the price.
Functional and easy to use.
Then I choose the LX-5 for someone that’s starting to get a little more serious.
A person who takes things a little more serious / getting older/ introducing kids -I say LX7 hands down.
The FLX-28 is a great unit but for the price compared to the LX7 features, LX7 wins my extra $$.
Durability I say Vexilar does have a one up on marcum.
However, I wouldnt rule out Lowrance or Humminbird, they are starting to make leaps and bounds in the ice arena.
And as far as battery chargers lol… they all suck IMO, but a battery tender jr.
I catch 100% of my <strong class=”ido-tag-strong”>walleyes on a hook. Now what is on the other end of the hook changes. Sometimes it is a buckshot or plain hook or flutter spoon or …
Ive been doing this for the bast few years. Plain/ bare hook with minnow tail/head/ full, depending on the lake.
Best ones I’ve ever owned. Kinda of expensive but they sure work!
I recently bought a Deltran battery tender jr at Fleet Farm. They were on sale and I can use it on my car that is in storage. I also went to Walmart and they had a charger for $10, so I grabbed one for my back up batteries. I loves these things, way better than the other chargers IMO.
kahtoola MICROspikes are worth the money. I will never go to cheap ones ever again.
I went with the X200 because it fit in the bed of my truck. I really wanted an otter but the bigger ones don’t fit without having to keep the tail gate open.
The X200 also came with runners, light bar, cover and additional battery holder.
The x200 has plenty of room to mover around in. My big thing is being able to stand in the house. I almost went with the frabill side step but their poles and tubs don’t seem to measure up to Otter or Clam.
Stay away from cheap short ones. Get longer Aluminum, Like blank said, steep angles are no fun, I have also learned from experience.
trade shows usually have good deals, I’d ask to get an extension for free if you buy from one of the places on the spot. Stores usually advertise the same prices when they are on sale. I’d say you have some time to look around.
I’d highly recommend getting a 4 stroke or an Electric auger if those are in your budget.
Fred’s Beds LOTW. He has a few 8 person sleepers. I would recommend trying to split the group up. I think that many lines in the water creates a gauntlet for the fish. We had better luck splitting up. We even punched a few holes outside 25 feet from the house and we had better luck then we did in the house. it took 3 years to figure that out.
I have an 88 Honda 200 2×4. It’s basically like the “Big Red”3 wheelers. Big fat wide tires in the back help it get around. The only down side is it has small skinny tires up front. I’m thinking about rigging up some skis for the front. But I’ve had good lulu just with it so far, but I haven’t ventured to far off any kind of path where there isn’t any deep snow
