I purchased one of the Black/grey IceArmor suites when the 1st came out with the Artic Armor zip in jacket – maybe 8-9 yrs ago? I have beat the snot out of this thing including 0ct-Nov musky fishing. Hands down one of the, if not the BEST investments I have ever made. I have NEVER been cold and not a single tear, rip, or zipper breakage. I’m sure they are not what they used to be, but I wouldn’t know.

Just returned from Red yesterday. We had two adults and 3 kids between 5-7yrs old. We got on the ice Saturday around 12 noon and left yesterday at 10:00am. Had lines down by 1:00. First fish at 1:10pm. We fished away from the crowds in 15-16 ft of water. Lots of mixed reports when talking to other groups on shore.
We caught approximately 25-30 walleyes outside of the protected slot and 5-8 overs. Biggest was 19″ and missed another 10-15 fish. Kids had a blast and kept us busy
When we went to shore to cook up our fish Saturday night, we heard a little bit of everything. Some groups 1-2 bites, some about the same as us and some in between. The overall vibe was that the bite had slowed down since Friday. For us, all but one fish was caught on a set line with single red hook and a split shot. I Jigged the whole time and only got one fish to commit. But, on shore we heard some groups had the majority of their fish jigging – so who knows, maybe it depends on the area you are fishing. I feel the key to our success was staying away from the crowds and having lines spread out. (we had 4 heated boxes that allowed us to spread out our lines) Fish bit on shinners, rainboes and fatheads. Fishing was pretty consistent, I would say a bite every 10-15 min and we had to leave some lines up after midnight to get some sleep. Good luck and enjoy the tremendous fishery and sharing it with kids.

December 12, 2014 at 2:43 pm #1483186Without more lake specific info it is difficult to provide any direction. Based on the info that you provided, perhaps the timing of your visits to the hump could be in question.
Assuming on your avatar location you where fishing a metro lake. If that is the case, more times than not, it will be more challenging than panfish and pike. Walleyes are heavily pressured in the metro, and in my opinion, more difficult to catch consistently and especially a consistent daytime bite. What lures/bait where you trying.
Based on your map, it looks like a good location to try. I would also try to the south west of your circle where the deep finger slides up to shallow water. What was the bottom content? Was there a weed edge? On a side note, typically if I catch perch in a spot during the day, I more times than not catch walleyes in the same spot come “magic hour” (half hour before and after dark). Good luck and keep trying.
December 12, 2014 at 12:39 pm #1483156x2 on Navionics for iPhone. However, walking out on Lake Independence last night I was looking for those 2 underwater islands/humps that I fish all the time in the summer and what do you know, nothing on the Navionics to indicate they exist. Very frustrating. By and large, I do find the Navionics app to be pretty dang slick though.
Yeah, I was on Medicine Wed. night and noticed the same thing. I had transferred over a waypoint from my HDS 7 to the app. First thing I noted was the waypoint showed up in 27ft of water even though I know it was like 12-13ft. When I got there and punched the hole, it was 10-15ft. So, the map was probably generated from an older DNR map. The app does have the ability to flip on sonar charts, but maybe nobody has sent in more recent sonar log data?
December 12, 2014 at 11:33 am #1483136Your current Android phone or iPhone/iPad with Navionics boating app best $10 you’ll ever spend.
You can even try it for free for a day.

You got that right. Things are tough, we need money. Things are good, you shouldn’t mind us taking your money.
Just like when gas was $4 a gallon and everything including garbage pick up went up because of fuel cost. As soon as gas dropped back down to almost $3 a gallon, cost never went back down……

so if you max your 401K at 17K or whatever, max roth at 8K, max HSA at 3K? and wife takes care of kids. not seeing how you eliminate $100K of AGI.
i assume its through a business venture to really get it down.
I was just suggesting ways to help get below the $140K mark, not eliminate it completely. I have NO idea how that works.

Finding a CPA that is an X IRS auditor makes a HUGE difference. I’m self employed, but when I had a “real” job, my accountant saved me many times what he charged.
I have a Retired IRS agent for a friend and he does our taxes. My wife owns her own business and we get no where near what is being claimed here…. me thinks somebody is stretching the truth or their filings

April 18, 2013 at 3:34 pm #1163686Don’t you need to provide social security numbers for children or dependents on a child credit, or is that part of the loop-hole?
February 22, 2013 at 4:59 pm #1144813My thoughs exactly, looks like you could put in some really nice cadences, but how much tuning is going to be needed to keep it from eventually doing barrel rolls? Out of the box? after each fish?
January 22, 2013 at 1:20 pm #1133482Better have a lot of batter or beer if your going to eat a walleye over 28″. Tried eating a 24″ metro walleye once. Never again. Maybe because it was a metro fish and tasted like gasoline and Scotts lawn care. Personally I would get a way bigger “high” from releasing an over 28 than putting a knife to one and trowing the guts in the trash…. Maybe thats just me.
January 22, 2013 at 1:08 pm #1133476Like stated above, depends on the lake. Mid-End of January on a metro lake – Few and far between. 2-4 inches of ice is best in the metro, once the circus comes to town, you need to start fishing away from the crowds or start fishing off hours. I know a metro lake that used to kick out pretty consistent prime time walleyes. Now, just 12 inchers. Sometimes the “prime time” for the bigger fish moves to 1:00 -3:00am on weekdays. Good luck!

January 10, 2013 at 5:02 pm #1129033Awesome pics guys. Isn’t it great to have a plan, roll it out and have success. 1 question for you, did you also target weed lines, or did you move out to transition areas? Depth?
Thanks in advance
November 29, 2012 at 5:53 pm #1116018Smith and Rudolf are playing… Doesn’t mean they have a better chance though and AP could run a train on that banged up D, but the knuckleheads that call the plays won’t give him enough touches. Apparently, the coaches want
to make you think we will hand the ball off to the best running back in the league, But instead we want to surprise the opponent with our 50yd per game passing offense. Know matter what it is always a fun match up.November 8, 2012 at 5:19 pm #1110585I just hope we get enough snow/rain this winter/spring to cover those treasures!
October 19, 2012 at 7:10 pm #1106379Personally, I like huskyjerks and x-raps. Both suspend real well to keep in the strike zone longer. X-raps are a little more erratic than the Husky’s when twitched, but the sky is the limit with cadence.
July 30, 2012 at 6:51 pm #1088326Thanks guys, much appreciated! Are those the triple grips? Do you replace both hooks?
