Don’t know how their Freedom of Information Act works, but in this case they utilize their MOIA.
Mis-management Of Information Act
Wade,
Very shortly. We will revert CHS data back to data that is not monopolized my NDI or remove it altogether. Already our Great Lakes product has been revised as have others that had previously included CHS data and are on store shelves today.
The Region 10 Gold should be converted to non CHS/NDI data shortly.
As I explained to you before Wade, its the boater who looses. I lack an explanation as to why a company that was chosen by the Canadian Hydrographic Service to represent the best interests of its boating public is doing the exact opposite.
Too bad the safety and convenience of Canadian boaters is being infringed upon by a company that has placed personal profits ahead of public interest. And too bad that the CHS is doing nothing about it.
Great questions all. Got a busy Monday at this end, but will try to reply to all as time provides!

Mike,
Its the “goodies” isn’t it?? Glad it has served your and your wife’s needs well! Bet theres a bunch of guys and gals that would like to have Minnetonka in the HotMap+ level of detail, yup…pretty important lake…
Don’t know if I can spill the beans on it just yet . Lets just say that we know how much everyone wants it! And a bunch of other lakes…
Jeff
Ummm,
I’m a Northwest guy who gets lost west of CT. Where exactly is Beltrami County?
It is confusing…the saving grace being that they are all phenomenal products and once you have a unit, it is pretty easy to figure out what you need.
We have two “formats” for our charts, Classic and Gold.
Classic shows on the water detail in all one color (blue in a color unit. gray in a B&W unit) and is the product we have producted up until last year. Still current and a very good product. Best product for Black and White plotters.
Gold is new and shows different water depths in different colors (dark blue=shallowest, light blue=shallow, white=deeper/safe water). These “shaded contours” are user adjustable. Obvious advantages; quickly identify structure (shoals/holes), know with a quick glance if you have safe water for passage, work a certain depth while trolling. Gold also has an improved user interface that simplifies on screen identification of many objects. Obviously, Gold is best suited for use in color plotters.
HotMaps+ is currently available in 2 versions, both only available in Classic (one color) today. The ProMap version has 21 MN lakes displayed in 3′ contour breaks. The ReelBottom version has 4 MN lakes in 1′ contours. These are the products of choice for touring professionals and guides.
Look for an updated Gold Version of HotMaps+ in the near future.

Hey Derek,
No relation…but I hear he is a lousy angler anyway. He has his sport I have mine.
Ahhhh…Garmin. We used to do their Cartography but there is no relation now. I’m surprised they havent released any of the ReelBottom 1′ product yet. It is absolutely mindblowing the level of detail on these charts-the guys at ReelBottom are truly “artists” when it comes to lake surveys!
We have been producing these 1′ electronic charts since last August. Our 3′ Pro-map charts have been out the same ammount of time.
Wait till you see what we have up our flannel sleeves next!
Nice to be the leaders rather than the followers!
Fire away fellas!
Glad to be here. Nice forum with some great feedback so far. Let me know how I can help!
Jeff
Man,
I would give up my antique reel collection for Lac Seul. No plans today. Definatealy on my “wish” list.
There are no good sources for LS!
Sandbar,
Available in Classic/Gold XL charts from Mississipi north to Lookout point. Not great fishing detail as of this initial release. Link here http://www.navionics.com/Usa/Catalog/inlandrivers_xl.asp
Expect more detail in this area soon!
