We were very fortunate this year at the farm to have very little snow and got warm temps early on. We are on higher ground. I have been working the plots the last 2 weekends. Will post pics soon

Sounds like fun! whats your soil temp? ours are still in the low 40’s here too cold to plant here.

Wild Thang has a LCP and loves it! I wouldn’t want to be on her bad side when she has it on her she never leaves home without it

If you have a soft deep seed bed it can be done. I used to plant soybeans using my drill. you will have to reduce the seeding rate to drop a seed every 4-6″ and no closer than 20″ rows. Good luck and let us know how it goes

Looks good!! Lots of great responses!! I have had my best luck hinge cutting when the sap is running. more live and I have fewer that snap of vs tipping over and saving the cambium outer layer of the tree that will still provide the need water and nutrients for survival.

The polaris 500 HO has been one the best work horses I have ever used. I do use my 850 ho now But am considering going back to the 500 HO.

I’ve heard good things about Dokens in Northfield MN. My Buddy just sent his lab there for a 4 week shed hunting class. Only $400.00

I am no expert, but I try to work on area with very mature trees that look almost park like because they have a massive canopy which blocks all the sun and doesn’t allow any growth of vegetation on the ground. I am looking for trees that are good browse(basswood, box elder, maple) that hinge well and will sprout many suckers from the stump when cut or hinged. Hinge cutting is cutting a tree part way through so that it falls over, but doesn’t disconnect from the stump. Often the tree is still able to draw nutrients from the roots and will grow new growth along the trunk. This creates a ton of browse low enough to the ground where deer can reach it. It also leaves great bedding areas for the deer with the tree laying horizontally.

Right now I am working in our 17 acre sanctuary where I have exactly these conditions. Huge basswood clumps with huge canopies and no understory to speak of. Spring is the only time we enter this area. There are also some very large oaks in there, but I am leaving those alone. Taking away their competition also helps the more desired trees.

It’s pretty thick in there already from the hinging I did last year, but I still have areas that need help. It’s an area I don’t even want to be able to see in. This is where we want the deer to go to hide, on our property, so the thicker it is the more comfortable they are.

Great way to feed, protect and hold deer on your property

One other thing to consider. My moultrie feeders would last about 1 week on a set of batteries. My “on time” feeders at my cabin last from 3 to 6 months

Before the feeding ban in our as area about 25% of our feed was via spin feeders. The rest was put out on a daily basis.ricco. you are not in the no feed zone. Unless a town has a special ordinance against it you are good to go

Had the option of hunting the last 3 days of wis rifle or staying home and hunting the mn muzzle loader season. Easy choice. I am set up over looking the”zoo”stand in mn.with the warm weather I don’t expect to see any mature bucks feeding during daylight but you just never know

Congrats Kooty!! I grew up trapping and loved it! I only trap the predators around the farm now as the rut and prime fur times happen about the same time
