hey,,, the airsacks can come out of the fish in 30 feet of water,, i have been ice fishing lake pepin alot and have been cing this happen,, the trick is to real the fish up from the bottom as slow as possible, yea that might mean ur going to loose some fish but ur also not killing everyfish u catch,, the wierd thing is that i have never seen the airsack come out of any other fish besides the walleye and sauger,, there are some old guys from town that say that u can pop the sack and they will live,, i really dont belive it!!!!!!
December 10, 2002 at 4:09 pm #249066well guess what me and this guy from wabasha were talking about this too,,, about 7 years ago we use to have a perm shack out in the middle of lake pepin and we were catching whitties and sauger in the same holes,,,, we fished them right on the bottom like we do walleye’s… what we used for bait was the ole jigging rap and using just a bobber and a walleye minnow,,, we never got into many big schools of them so i dont know if the schools of whitebass suspended or what,,, well good luck
November 18, 2002 at 12:51 am #248160yea i have been finding this in rockers also,,, u have to go to sheel’s they have the good ones still,,, atleast last yr they did,,,
November 18, 2002 at 12:30 am #248159Ussually at alma the river will open up if u get 3-4 days of 40 degree weather,,, the problem is that the landing freezes up and it takes alot of warm weather to make that clear if ice,, the local people ussually push there flats across the ice and then go out.. If u dont have a flat bottom u would have to go to the down by bufflo city,,, theres a flowing channel down there that keeps the ice clear… that run is alot longer to the dam
November 18, 2002 at 12:14 am #248158hey,,, my favorite ice fishing tactic for northers are going in the back waters and setting tip-ups,, for bait its hard to beat the ole shinner minnow,,,, i tend to put the minnow about1-2 feet below the ice,, northers will always look up… chubs work good too but not for unagressive fish,,,, good luck
November 12, 2002 at 4:55 pm #247920hey.. my favorite way to fish perch is with a jigging spoon,,, about 2 inches long with with a trouble hook on the bottom,,,, and a head of a minnow,,,those perch will inhale the whole spoon,,,, its hard to beat a fish fry with perch,,,,,
October 31, 2002 at 5:43 pm #247506There is nothing wrong with fishing from shore,,, when the water is up especially,,, every spring i can go right off the banks and get limits while the boat fishermen arent doing worth a hoot,,,, the fish come from the main channel threw out the day making shad drives up against the banks,, .
October 30, 2002 at 3:28 pm #247465Hey dan,, ur going to have to tell ole steve to bring some of those bad boys home to the alma dam and release them,,get the genes going arround here,, (is it a carp,,, maybe a cat,,, no a 17lb eye) ,,,nice fish..

October 29, 2002 at 2:32 pm #247407What i have found out with these people that anchor is to leave them alone and dont say a word,,, i have said a word or two in my day at them and thats when the problems start,,,they start casting in front of u and all of that other good stuff,,, when they c u drifting by and catching more fish then they are ,,, they will pull the cement block from the bottom and start drifting anyhow,,,
October 29, 2002 at 2:09 pm #247405Hey jon,,, just wondering,, what does the fish ussually hit,, the jig or the floater,,, have u ever cought a double while fishing for walleyes,,, we ussually use this method while fishing for whitebass,, works great,,,
October 25, 2002 at 7:57 pm #247295hey….. we have been going to koshabowie for the last couple of yrs… its a allright lake i guess,,, the day bite is real slow but theres alot of quality,,,, the night bite is where it is at,,,,i think the day bite is so slow cause the lake is so clear and deep,,where do u ussualy fish on it,, its so darn big,, we catch most of our fish up by tom schmudes house,, the guy with the plane, this spring we ventured to lac mil lac,, thats not how u spell it im sure,,,, but its just north,,, the fishing up there is out of this world,, we were catching 40 eyes an hr in about 1-3 feet of water,, the water is a copper color and they bit all day long,,, i cought 2 27 inchers in like 2 hrs of fishing,,,
October 24, 2002 at 5:03 pm #247250hey,, my favorite presentation for the fall bite is pitching the shallows and bulking up,,,,,,Most of the time i like to throw ringworms or 7 inch rubber worm…, walleyes are head hunters and they will ingulf the worm,,, if u ever disect a walleye or a sauger,, there is ussually one or more 5 inch gizzy’s in there stomach,, and there is not a bite mark in the side of the shad…
