I bought a new Yamaha 150 4-stroke this spring, and love it. It’s a really big motor (450 lbs) but is great on gas and extremely quiet. A buddy has the e-tec and loves it too, says it’s great on gas as well. No lose decision!

In the Black River, south of the I90 bridge…we found 86-88 degree water everywhere we went. Kid and I jumped in a couple times to cool down…but it didn’t work very well
July 14, 2005 at 6:55 pm #373041Guys, Jordan and I caught at least a dozen fish (all between 12-14″) on Pop-R’s in the first hour. The kid at one point caught 5 fish on 5 casts in a row. We had a blast. Caught them in a very shallow grassy bay with bass pushing bait in all around us. A feeding frenzy that lasted about an hour, really exciting. Just no quality fish, but a great time 2 feet of water max. Then we moved to outside edges of grass in about 4-5 feet of water and caught some on tubes and senkos and a wacky-rigged fluke. Again, 12-14″ fish the best we could do, but lots of them.
July 14, 2005 at 6:44 pm #373035Way to go! My 11 year old is completely hooked on bass fishing, started taking him when he was 8…now my 5 year old boy is beginning to love it too! Keep taking her out, and very soon she’ll be pounding you and you’ll be very proud! Here’s one of my wife and boys w/a good one
July 14, 2005 at 4:11 pm #372997Thx much for the advice….I just back back from a business trip, and hadn’t had a chance to read this prior to my JL club outing last night. My son and I caught more fish than we could count on Pop-R’s last night, but all were 13-14″ fish. The kid actually caught fish on 5 consecutive casts! Anyway, so to try to find better fish, I just threw a fluke on a Gammy EWG 3/0 hook that had a 1/8 ounce bullet sinker (using for brush hawgs, didn’t take time to re-rig) and wacky-rigged it….immediately caught 3 legal fish, but again, they were 14″ triplets! Still, they seemed to like it rigged that way. One fish actually came up from below on the fall, and ate it while dancing out of the water with it! I didn’t think I had it hooked until I set the hook once he hit water and still had him on!
This happened on the edge of a grass-line in about 4 feet of water…and man was it hot….air 93, water 87.
July 11, 2005 at 6:07 pm #372368I enjoy reading your posts, BigFish….I have an 11-year old who outfishes me everytime.
How do you rig your flukes? I’ve never really fished them, although I do have a bag of white ones (pearl) in my tackle box. I know lots of guys have success on them. Maybe I’ll post this out on the board too. Keep up the great stuff.
June 29, 2005 at 2:51 pm #370619Props to you guys and your priorities….I have 3 kids, and the only thing better than catching a nice fish is when your kids catch ’em. My tourney days are coming, but they are still a few years off. 1-2 times a week on the water w/the family is the greatest time of year for me. Cheers

September 14, 2004 at 2:53 pm #320990We had a great year in our club this summer (except for the stinkin weather ) Our club was made better by some of the really great guys we met from this forum. It was great having Blue, Moss and DanWi join us…and show us how to catch fish…prior to fishing with you guys, us bassin’ beginners thought Reel Guy was the reel deal…now we know the truth
On a serious note, I’m done for the season (on to coaching football ), but had a great time. Looking forward to next year and getting to know some of you guys better. Congrats to Reel Guy on winning 2 of our 3 seasons and the money title, you deserved it. Have one on me
September 10, 2004 at 12:32 pm #320514Good luck, Slop in the BFL. Just got word that Reel Guy is taking 10 year old Jordan with him for tomorrow’s clubber..not his normal partner (dad)… but the kid has excellent karma, so Reel Guy will have a nice bag. BC, Wingdam…it’s up to us to have a nicer one!
Ok, back to work now
September 9, 2004 at 3:43 pm #320433Looking forward to Sat tourney, and hoping I can get lucky and find some decent fish to give Reel Guy some nerves as I open the Cajun’s livewell Yes, I have a partner who hasn’t bass fished before, but he’s a great man and my brother in law, so we’ll have a big time no matter what! I’ve just gotta not choke and catch some fish to keep BC and Wingdam off my
Slop, best wishes for BFL, hope to see you at the weigh in with a huge smile peeking through those pork chops
September 7, 2004 at 6:20 pm #320215MossBoss, that is an awesome fish…congrats on the big fish money.
September 7, 2004 at 6:13 pm #320211Slop, don’t forget Motley sits in second place just .6 lbs behind Reel Guy too bad I have to coach my kid’s football team on Wed night, or I may have been able to knock out my low bag for the season of 2.1. I’ll just have to save it for the season ender on Saturday
September 7, 2004 at 1:48 pm #320174Motley is in the house….better late than never. Great fish, Reel Guy. Saw you out there while Cookie, Hougie and I had the families at the sandbar…didn’t even take a rod with me or my wife would have
