Thanks for the post. My pics always suck too and the answers have been informative.
December 7, 2011 at 2:14 pm #116375I remember reading a study a few years back that showed that faster, lighter bullets were actually in most cases deflected less by brush than slow, heavy ones. I will see if I can find it.
Not that it mattered in this case.
December 2, 2011 at 11:47 pm #116160That scores only a 115 and i will eat my hat. I would guess 140 or so, but hard to tell. That’s a sweet looking unique rack regardless of score. I would have loved to get that bad boy.

We did have bigger flocks work our deks, flocks of 10-15 were common and we’d pick these drakes out of em
Just picking on the old “Canadian” thing, not ripping on you at all. Congrats on a great hunt and some nice birds.
Out duck hunting on the opening day of deer season? Maybe you need to change your name to “dem ducks”.
November 20, 2011 at 11:36 pm #115157I agree with Kris. Unless they had an accent, or provided a passport, still waiting for someone to show me how they are “Canadians”.
Old wives tale. Probably has some statistical validity since the birds from Canada would probably be the last to migrate, but still waiting for someone to prove, aside from a band, where these birds came from.

Burnt my tounge really bad too, guess I was in too big of a hurry
Man, seems like I do that EVERY time with Chili too!
November 14, 2011 at 6:48 pm #114755Be up at Fountain City again like always. Likely be about 1/4 mile from where the big guy is shot by someone else, like always.
November 14, 2011 at 2:40 pm #114683Anyone do well over the weekend? Did real well middle of last week, but was pretty medicore by Friday for me.
November 14, 2011 at 12:44 am #114625I hope the INferno 2000’s are pretty good, I bought some today based on some good recommendations. They sure LOOK warm! But, they are bulky.
November 4, 2011 at 2:14 pm #113876See if I can get some pictures to post up with my advise from Jake. Mine are from a cell camera and not as photogenic as Jake’s.
November 2, 2011 at 3:55 pm #113676If shooting a limit of woodies almost everytime out is good, we are killing it. If you want anything other than woodies, we have sucked balls.
July 15, 2011 at 4:01 pm #981103I have been looking at them for about a month. Advantages and disadvantages to both it seems. A couple of things that are pretty factual, the Talon is cheaper, and the Power Pole has a long proven fact record. Tough choice, I still really don’t know which one I would choose.

Welllll … that’s certainly not what the DNR Commisioner was saying; and there’s a word for someone who says one thing but does the opposite.
So … For now I’ll take him at his word that he fully intended to enforce the law while at the same time denying the public of the mechanism by which they would be able to comply with the law. Of course there’s also a word for government officials who operate that way.
You seriously don’t think the commissioner would openly endorse people fishing without a license, even in this circumstance.
I agree, he’s in a tough spot. He’s been dealt a crappy hand by the idiots in charge in the Leg and executive branches. His best option would be to VERY vaguely state the laws are still in effect during the shutdown, but to tell the officers to enforce all the laws but look the other way on licenses behind the scenes. Which kind of seems what he has done. To my knowledge, the DNR did not decide to shut down the goverment in MN.
July 15, 2011 at 1:49 pm #981040I throw em on 15-20 pound flouro, or 30-50 pound braid, depending on where I am fishing them.

This MPR article may have been posted already but
Fishing W/Out License – The Honor System
I’m still waiting to hear of anyone, ANYONE, who has got ticketed or even checked for a license during the shutdown. I would bet the DNR will do everything in their power to avoid any controversy on the matter.
July 14, 2011 at 6:31 pm #980853Aside from frogs in slop, it’s been a crappy year for me on topwater on the river, just like last year.
July 14, 2011 at 5:31 pm #980828Does anyone know of anyone who got a ticket for fishing without a license during the shutdown? Or, anyone who got any kind of warning instead? As opposed to theorizing what the CO’s would do, does anyone know what they actually ARE doing?
July 1, 2011 at 12:56 pm #977741Wish we would shutdown too so I could get all my benfits paid and part of my salary through unemployment and have time off in the summer!

You fish with these rods Slop. What is your take on them?
Any ideas on how they compare to a Loomis or St. Croix?
I like them better than St. Croix. Haven’t really fished many Loomis rods. The thing I really like about them is the balance of the rods. Every Dobyns I have, from 6-8″ to 7-4″ balances damn near perfect at the front of the reel after putting a reel on the rod. They are light to begin with, but the balance makes the tip seem even lighter in fishing situations, and makes a great fulcrum for a long day of pitching.
St. Croix amkes some great blanks, but I can’t seem to find many balanced rods in their lines.
May 5, 2011 at 6:27 pm #105984I would look for strut zones in the woods, we usually them on the tips or side of ridge points that are wooded and steep on each side with a open-ish area near the top where they strut. I got my biggest bird ever in one of these at about 1:00 pm and my cousin shot 3 in a row in the afternoons from 2-4 from a different in woods strut zone. After the hens go off to nest these big boys seem pretty willing to play.
May 2, 2011 at 3:31 pm #962599Nice fish Brad!! That 6 is awesome!!!! How big was that 2nd biggest one on the left? Looks over 4 at least.
April 27, 2011 at 4:03 pm #105542I shot mine at 23 yards this year with the Mag blend and a turkey choke and let’s just say the pattern was about the size of a softball (maybe a bit bigger) and really did some damage!
April 26, 2011 at 3:59 pm #105459I was in the same boat as you, but the tom I got this year came to our lone hen like he was on a string.
I have actually had more hangups when using a jake and a hen.I also wonder if, if the bird is the dominant tom in the area, if he’s more stubborn with a “come to me [censored], don’t you know who I am” attitude than a less dominant tom would have.
April 26, 2011 at 1:20 pm #105427I have one but I never hardly use it. Maybe I should practice on it a little more!
April 25, 2011 at 7:59 pm #105367Awesome gentlemen, simply awesome.
Well, except for those pants!!!!
