    More good advice
I’m going to try to get out this afternoon and or tomorrow morning to put it back through the motions.

I’m still puzzled how those first three shots patterned so nicely.

Grouse, if you knew how many different kinds of powder and how many bullets and brass and primers I’ve got for the 22-250,(not to mention all my STW and 44 mag components) you’d think I was a reloader. I’ve got a press and all the other things (I think), I’m just trying to get my buddy the mad reloader scientist over to give me some lessons. Soon I hope.

As far as losing my membership to the 22-250 owners guild, the gun is still pretty new. I can virtually guarantee that once I get it dialed in, I’ll have no problem putting at least 250 rounds through it.
I’d also like to think my charter memberships to both the 12ga owners guild and the 17 HMR guild get me somewhere.

I really appreciate all the input.
After giving it some thought, I already decided that I:
-Need to break it down and start over. I know I torqued the ring screws to what they recommend, but im not sure about base screws. And I didn’t loktite
-need to go back to 100 yds.
-need start shooting 5 shot groups.

I think I shoot Less than 5 because that’s what I do when I sight in my STW each fall. And I’ve got magic handloads for it and I cherish each of them. I actually sight the STW in w one shot in the fall. It’s only been off once since 2000. But it’s an entirely different animal.

I’ll tear it down, loktite screws and start over.
I have a torque screwdriver. Was wondering what you guys recommend for torque on base to rifle screws and ring screws? Pretty sure the vortex rings told me exactly what to do, but not base.

I picked up a couple boxes of hornady
55 gr. So now I’ve got 2 types of ammo to test.
Can’t shoot until Friday sat Sunday.
    I’ll report back w progress.

Many many thanks again for the input.

I’ve killed enough roosters over the years to partially fill a small dump truck. Every single one w improved cylinder. In both 12 and 20. I want a pattern like a sheet of plywood flying through the air.
I “adjust” the way my gun shoots w my ammo choice. Opening day is medium based 7.5’s followed by high base 6s.
All 2 3/4. As the season progresses and Rudy gets wise I’ll bump up the the best 5s my $ will purchase.
At the bitter end around the holidays and when the wind blows, sometimes the 3 inch nitro mag 6s make a guest appearance.
I almost always hunt over good dogs that can run down cripples when need be, but I want those things DEAD when they reacquaint themselves w the ground.
That 26″ wingmaster is the perfect shotgun for everything.

If it’s older, w a fixed choke, pattern it. It’s cool to see exactly what your rounds are doing.

Glad to hear lots of geese in eastern MT. Usually see lots of dark geese out there. Less light geese. I usually see more light geese in ND than eastern MT.
    Any ducks?
Also good to hear about speed goats. I’m always hoping those numbers increase. We used to get a buck tag for eastern MT that got you an option on two doe tags.
Whacking 3 goats > only one tag.
And those tags have gotten hard to get. Who doesn’t like testing bullets on antelope? Few things more fun to tip over and antelope backstrap, bbq’d very rare w an expensive bottle of 2010 Napa cab Is one of my favorite feasts.

Well at least its a nice subtle color that is hard to see from a mile away…
You are going to have to come up with a whole new “dummy marker” system/program/strategy.
If the great fish spirit smiles upon me, I may get to see that boat up close and personal in about 5 weeks.
    Congrats on your new toy.
    Don’t break it.

Can’t help you with any MN Ice fishing info, (other than, try Rainy Lake, with Rainydaze)but, I live in the Big Sky state, and wonder if you are willing to share any secret spots/techniques? You know, since you dont live here, anymore.

Enjoy the People’s Republic of Minnesota!

Its probably best if the likes of you and yours stay in Iowa, or other states that touch the Mississippi. We have reached our “Yay-who” quota years ago. No big mule deer or elk in this state. Nothing to see, move along people….

PS Montana’s bird hunting is the WORST!

Not Sure what you mean by “MAP CONSULTATION “…
but the map consultation I got from RD only “cost” me a cooler full of antelope and elk num nums and treats. Best trade I ever made. I know try to “tip over” an extra critter so the borderlands can have pepperoni sticks and spicy cheddar brats, from something besides old whitey tail.

In the mid to late 80’s, my brother, dad and I fished LOW quite a bit. Our best luck was always with one of two guides who were natives and subsequently brothers. They ALWAYS kept a 4 or 5 pound pike. Both would comment about how white man starve to death always eating those “Damn walleyes”.

    Nice pics and instruction Daze!!
    clap clap clap clap
PS Does anybody remember/still use a “Bait walker”??
we used to catch 40 fish each per day each, using them on LOW
Its an orange chunk of lead shaped like a canoe w a wire bent 90 degrees sticking out that you tie a minnow and hook on a leader, the other to your line…bumps along the bottom and keeps bait just off the bottom(poor description)

I have 1 or 2 left but never much luck on Rainy w them

Spooled would imply there was something on the spool.
“Excuse me, guide, do you think i’ll need more than 40 or so yards of line on this nice light weight rig you have given me to use??”

Guide: “Dont worry, we’ll be jigging for medium and large walleyes in 6 -8 fow. Heck, when you set the hook just keep lifting and set it in the boat. I’ll get it off for you, re-hook a minow, and you’ll be hooked up again in no time!!”

That sturgeon “spooled” me in the time it took me “run” in a small boat from bow to stern. The boat contained 4 grown men and a 100# lab…good times.

Note: always bring MORE beer and cigars because you never know when your buddy is going to have to fight a giant fish for 45-50 minutes. That thing pulled that boat around the river anywhere it wanted to go.

I havent looked rcently, but there is supposed to be a picture of uncle touchy hoisting a very large sturgeon with that very same FINE looking, well behaved yellow lab in them, on his RD’s website.

…maybe since it seems like UT is all in touch w the pic posting he could refresh our memory. While u r at it UT, put a good one of ol’Mooneye up too!
