if you want to launch out of bass camp landing, go across the river to the rock pile, and cast inline spinners or floating rapalas, you will be up for about 200 pounds an hour in white bass…have fun. if it is too crowded at the pile, drip down a wing dam or two, and watch for the splashes.

MiniGrubOctober 29, 2005 at 2:51 pm #392859check out the astrostart line, it really has some great distance for starting. great to have a warm vehicle by the time you land the boat and walk up from the landing to get it. and with the internet, they are fairly easiy to install yourself.
good luck
MiniGrubSeptember 16, 2005 at 7:50 pm #384483Nope,
Jake was out last week and rounded them all up, so he can go out on the opener and knock them all down and send us pics on how great the hunting was. watch for the strings on the legs when the pics come out….jake
I take it you have been out scouting, lets try and get together later in the season, and see if I can keep up with ya. just pm me when it gets a little farther, I may have a secret spot or two I can take you, but I would have to blindfold you or at least put a motorcycle helmet on you.later troy
September 13, 2005 at 9:39 pm #383811Boy, with everyone having conceal and carry permits on the water, I better be more careful, and them jet skier’s, ouch!
I would recommend the class to anyone that uses firearms. Hats off to those who organize thease trainings. Keep the great info coming.
MiniGrubSeptember 13, 2005 at 5:39 pm #383739We were on a mission to hang a pirates flag on the front school flag pole, buddy lost his grip and slid down the pole, caught his boys on that hook that you tie the rope too, long storie short, he does have two great kids. but I laughed at him every one of the 30 days of detention we had together.

September 2, 2005 at 3:22 am #9574sounds like you got a good start to the upcoming season, maybe later in the year we can get together again. it is nice to see someone having the time to do the early hunt.
the hunting tactic of not calling and just flagging, did the guys you hunt with actually give you a call, or were you just the flag man. Nascar may want you….
good luck hunting

we are on the water at about high noon, we monitor channel 16, you can also stop at the us fish and wildlife office on third street and center street in winona. they have all the pool maps.Good Luck
MiniGrubAugust 29, 2005 at 7:40 pm #380903Well, I am sure looking forward to seeing alot of IDA anglers in the area, of course I won’t be able to tell anyone where I have the Big ones tide up, but if you need information on wingdams and sumurged objects, Just give me a PM and I will do my best, If you see that Big Lund tyee with the star on the side, it will more then likely be me or my partner. I have maps on board, just stop me and ask.
And Please Remember the NO-wake zone by Winona, if you are in the north channel, you can run the wisconsin side of the buoys next to the main channel, but you have to be out of the main channel, watch out for the three wingies, you can save your self some time if you check it out before the tourney. I believe you should have gotten a Map of the no-wake zone if not I can email it to someone to post on this site. Be safe on the Water and Good luck to Everyone.MiniGrub

where here is what I know, bring leeches and 3 ways, both under the 5a dam and 5 dam, they have been doing real well slow dragging leeches in about 5-10 ft of water(hint). crankin is getting better but with all the cold rain, you really seem to have to put it down in 12-20 ft of water and do it slow. the flow is almost back to normal levels and the smallies are starting to set up on the points of shallow bays, the water temp is 52-54 degrees on the main, and add a few degrees for the backwater. if your coming to go cranking look at sandy hook, pool 5a, ive heard they have been doing fairly well there. good luck and let me know how you do, I wont get out this weekend I have a southeastern minnesota police tournement that I am in near wabasha and I will be prefishing up there for that.

The information you are looking for I am able to obtain, a friend of mine is the federal fish and wildlife officer from pepin to the iowa border. If anyone needs or has questions pm me and I will get a anwser back to you, I will
see if he can log in and anwser any questions, he would rather educate everyone then have to write tickets, he is a very reasonable guy, and yes if they come upon a guided boat they will ask for the liscense, and the ticket is substantially large. it maybe a little effort on the guides part, but in my line of work you think of liablity all the time, can you imagine having to give up all your gear because someone took you to court because they fell out of the boat and reason he fell out was because the guide was not licensed, didnt matter the guy was born with two left feet, closed case as far as the judge would see it. I will try and get the answers for the first post as soon as I can.MiniGrub
June 5, 2004 at 4:09 am #307490I use a mustang at work and a sos suspenders for fishing, I like them both, the mustang has a better collar for long wear. my sos suspenders are shorter in length so if you are sitting alot, it dont get all bound up. also remember a inflatable pfd is only good in the eyes of the law if you are wearing it. it says so on the inside of each of the inflatable pfd. otherewise expect a ticket unless you have other pfds in the boat. Just my too cents, but they are a god sent in hot weather.

who is in charge of that and how long does it last, do you have times of weigh-in, what was it last year, I may fish it as long as edwards and nagel are not, I have a on going promise that I wont fish against them. maybe see you out.
MiniGrubMay 25, 2004 at 3:22 am #306006Well I gave Tom, our local warden, a pm and hopefully he will come on line and address any questions that you have. as far as I know willowcats are not classed as bullheads, that is why they are currently not on the baitfish list for minnesota, our local warden I beleive has started the ball rolling to get them added to the list, people around here have used them for so many years, it is a technical law, and soon it will be changed. h20 you are right about them being in the madtom family as well. I will try to keep the answers coming on this issue. i know alot of people are up set about it, but I belive in the end things will work out. Keep the Questions coming.
May 25, 2004 at 3:07 am #306004tigertrout
yes you can fish them in the same body of water that you caught them in, you just cant leave with the water, If you leave the body of water that you caught the willow cats in.
I will let Tom know about this site so he can maybe get on line and we can all get the facts, I will get back to you on that one as soon as I can.May 24, 2004 at 2:55 am #305813Well, to have this corrected and knowing the law, a fisherman may use willow cats yet when fishing, it is just unlawful to sell them commercially, when netting your own willowcats you have to use or bring your own water from home it is illegal to transport river water. and not to give the local warden a bad reputation, he is the one who has lauched a process to get willow cats on the baitfish list so people can use them in inland waters, as well as sell them at the baitstores, yes people on the river have used them forever and still can, you just have to do the work yourself. so before you get to hasty and get mad at the local warden, give him a at-a-boy for helping us get the willowcat on the baitfish list, from my understandment that may be as soon as next fall.
May 21, 2004 at 1:41 am #305575Hello Art
Welcome to pool 6, sunfish, well, there is two spots that I have heard of, sam gordys slough and praire island culvert by the barge fleeting, if you want more specifics give me a pm and I can give you more detail, not much of a panfishermen just going by what I observed others doing. good luck, and give me a wave if you see me out, I run a green lund with a 50 merc, 90 percent of the time I have a 115 pound choaclate lab with me. Good LuckAlso I just got a hot phone tip, trolling in front of the river road about 6-10 feet from shore with a rattle trap, produce a nice stringer of walleyes tonight, firetiger, give it a try if your out and about
May 19, 2004 at 3:39 am #305324Well I dont know what kind of fish you are looking for but here goes, the hot spot right now for walleyes is the trempleau refuge outlet into the mississippi just down from homer, you can see it from hwy 61, jointed cranks early in the morning and late evening, I have picked up alot of 23 to 29 inch fish there lately, Hope I am not giving it up for all of the tournement guys. and if your into the bass thing, I have picked up alot of nice smaillies just down from the 5a dam there is a harbor on the wisconsin side, just come out from there about 60 yards and go down steam, watch your depth finder and it will come up to about 3-4 feet, it is a big flat of rocks, between the two wingdams. they have been chasing baitfish like crazy there, caught them like sunfish on a hot summer day last Sunday. have fun, and let me know how you did, Hope I did not give away the money spots. for you other watchers of pool 6 I have not been on the water until this last week been busy with selling the house and stuff but will be hitting it hard the next couple of weekends. I will try to keeping everyone posted,
April 16, 2004 at 10:56 pm #301348To all of you out Saturday Morning, remember that the flow is going down, to a small crawl, so work on the outside corners of the main channel, and try the front wingdam if you find three or more in a row on the same side, they are going to be looking for current. To some of the other die hards on this site, any other ideas, do you think a slow or fast presentation will have the upper hand. this site has serouisly increased my “in the boat ratio”, Thanks to all, and I will try and contiune with the reports too. Also let the big ones go, that way there will be more for the future. Another question I have, Does anyone think that with the low flow, the walleye hatch for this year will be stinted or not….
April 4, 2004 at 5:07 am #299587what is the exact name of this video, I would love to order one, I fish pools 5a and 6 and I think this may shed some light on some wingdam fishing. I found only one at bfishn tackle, is that the one or is there others, Give me a PM.
Thanks MiniGrub
March 28, 2004 at 4:05 pm #298614To all those with helpful advice,
Thank you very much, I ended up replacing the water pump, and that took care of it. I thought it was strange because I seem to have good pressure and a good idoit stream coming out the back of the motor, I guess it is good to know the censors working, thank you again for all your insight.March 28, 2004 at 3:59 pm #298612Well, I was again on the mighty creek yesterday, closer to the whitman dam. picked up a couple of small ones by the dam, until it started to pour out, decided to head in, stopped by keiselhorst bay, and picked up one walleye about 19 inches, water temp there was 48 degrees where by the dam it was 43 degrees. I was using a chartuese superdoo. Has anyone noticed if the temp makes a difference on the bite, what temp do they really start to pick up the bite. Thanks for all the input on 5a and 6 pools. Keep it up
