Mike W. is spot on for you Matt, I can be a really simple fix. Even repacking them is easy.

Since we’re talking valves, it’s a good practice to work every valve in your house once a year.

Thanks guys. I wondered if I could just back that nut off and retighten. I can try the one above the meter but the one below I have to have the city shut the water off. I gotta look into that.

I tighten up the ones before the meter to. 1/4 turn of the packing nut is typically good.

Just be careful when shutting those valves off, depending how old they are. Lot of times they’ll leak at the valve

Dealing with this right now. We just had a softener installed and shut the water off to the whole house. Now the valve at our meter is seeping. That’s not something I am going to tackle by myself.

Most likely a packing nut leaking on that valve. Simple to fix. Just back the nut off a 1/4 turn then tighten it up. Just about any valve I ever touch I tighten the packing nuts at the end. Shut offs under sinks to.

Turn off the waterunder sink, disconnect hot, and turn it on into a bucket. If you have good flow it’s probably cartridge in faucet. If you don’t then maybe deposits or broken gasket in supply line so you can disconnect that and repeat test into bucket.

If you turn on the cold side while doing this it might back flush the hot side out under the sink.

If that doesn’t take care of the issue look at the shut off valve. I’ve found a few that the rubber washer have come apart and clogged things up.

I like to drill plenty of holes and keep moving. Some days it seems like all you may get is that first fish or two out of a hole. Then it’s time to move again.

I just picked up an Eskimo pistol bit from Tutts for $99. For that price it wasn’t hardly worth fixing my old auger. Works good so far and comes with an extra set of blades.

A few nice ones are still biting. Wasn’t our biggest fish of the afternoon but photos of the bigger one didn’t turn out.

Getting to the end of the 2024 pool 2 report. Good news is the river is still open and there are some fish still biting. Was nice getting out on Christmas day and setting the hook a few times. Sure hope to do the same for New Yesrs.

Back in the day it was a fan. Just something to circulate the air otherwise the top bunk was 100 degrees and the bottom bunk was 40.

From my experience if you get a decent water softener there isn’t a lot to go wrong with them. Heck even a cheap one if something goes wrong just disconnect it and slap a new one in place. They all come with a bypass valve to.

Renting is typically one of the most expensive ways to have a water softener especially if you plan on having it for a long time. I see customers renting them for 15-20 years and Culligen has done nothing to them but cash the check.

    $45 a month for 10 years is $5400.

These connectors can make hooking up the water piping a breeze. They take a little force to get all the way on to the water pipe side. Make sure they are threaded on straight on the bypass valve side. This is the only place I ever use a sharkbite fitting but since it’s exposed its easy to change out if there is ever an issue with it down the road. Just make sure the ones you get match up with the pipe size needed on both ends.

Would you rather hear the hourly rate and no idea of how long it’s going to take to complete? Flat rate has been around as long as people have been asking how much is it going to cost. More so know because consumer’s can’t handle being told the hourly rate it takes to run a business. I’m guessing $300 an hour isn’t even a break even rate gor a lot of shops

Being in MPLS you can get away with a pretty basic model. MPLS treats their water already down to under 4ppm of hardness if I remember right. It should be easy info to find on their website.

What I would be more concerned with is what they put back into the water supply. If like most of the cities in the metro there is lots of Chlorine added. A standard water softener does nothing to remove Chlorine. Northstar makes a unit that both softens the water and has carbon to help with Chlorine removal.

Yep. If I wanted to watch a screen I would stay at home. Didn’t take long to sell mine. Wanted it gone before the new models came out and it was worthless.

Any thoughts on how this might effect fishing the Canadian side of the Rainy River on the spring?

Call ahead to locate sucker minnows. Last weekend it was slim pickings on the north side of the lake.

Flys have been almost non existent. Skeeters on the other hand are still hanging on a little. I’ll check again this weekend and report back. Now sucker minnows are a little tough to come by around the north side of Mille lacs. Good thing they are not really needed right now but I do like to have them with especially if I’m third person in the boat doing clean up on those banks.

For river smallies it’s been whatever you want to throw at the bank they hit except spinner baits. With water levels dropping this last few weeks they are moving off the banks to. Shoreline logs, over hanging grass, small points or anything else that looks like structure will do. Lost track of how many 18″ and bigger Smallmouth we boated last weekend. Did have to push through one beaver dam to get to them but it was well worth it.

It’s up to you what you want to do.

That moen valve is designed to be installed with minimal tile work. Should be videos on line on what it takes to install. Maybe help your plumber out and cut a good access hole in the wall behind the valve if feasible. Buy the Moen trim and valve to. It seems a lot of our local supply houses don’t have the Eva on hand.

If you want to keep the old valve put it apart and take those parts to one of the supply houses I mentioned.

I’m booked up til maybe sometime this winter but can recommend another plumber for you.

Go to Gopher plumbing supply in st paul or Park plumbing supply in MPLS. Or put in a Moen valve. I believe it’s the Moen Eva that has the larger plate to cover both holes. I might even have one of those in my truck.

I have a Stihl 250 and Dewalt electric. The Dewalt is for yard clean up, Stihl is for getting work done. If I had yo choose one it would be simplr, the Stihl.

Now Dewalt does make a fantastic pole saw. No regrets in buying that.

Next purchase is a stump grinder.

Best day with my Livescope was when I sold it. I would rather fish than play video games. Especially while outdoors. It’s amazing the amount of money people will dish out to spend all day watching some blurry lines on a screen.
