Any thoughts on how this might effect fishing the Canadian side of the Rainy River on the spring?

Call ahead to locate sucker minnows. Last weekend it was slim pickings on the north side of the lake.
September 12, 2024 at 6:05 am #2289009Flys have been almost non existent. Skeeters on the other hand are still hanging on a little. I’ll check again this weekend and report back. Now sucker minnows are a little tough to come by around the north side of Mille lacs. Good thing they are not really needed right now but I do like to have them with especially if I’m third person in the boat doing clean up on those banks.
September 10, 2024 at 6:18 pm #2288855For river smallies it’s been whatever you want to throw at the bank they hit except spinner baits. With water levels dropping this last few weeks they are moving off the banks to. Shoreline logs, over hanging grass, small points or anything else that looks like structure will do. Lost track of how many 18″ and bigger Smallmouth we boated last weekend. Did have to push through one beaver dam to get to them but it was well worth it.

August 23, 2024 at 6:04 am #2286610It’s up to you what you want to do.
That moen valve is designed to be installed with minimal tile work. Should be videos on line on what it takes to install. Maybe help your plumber out and cut a good access hole in the wall behind the valve if feasible. Buy the Moen trim and valve to. It seems a lot of our local supply houses don’t have the Eva on hand.
If you want to keep the old valve put it apart and take those parts to one of the supply houses I mentioned.
I’m booked up til maybe sometime this winter but can recommend another plumber for you.
August 22, 2024 at 8:43 pm #2286602Go to Gopher plumbing supply in st paul or Park plumbing supply in MPLS. Or put in a Moen valve. I believe it’s the Moen Eva that has the larger plate to cover both holes. I might even have one of those in my truck.
August 21, 2024 at 4:45 am #2286366I have a Stihl 250 and Dewalt electric. The Dewalt is for yard clean up, Stihl is for getting work done. If I had yo choose one it would be simplr, the Stihl.
Now Dewalt does make a fantastic pole saw. No regrets in buying that.
Next purchase is a stump grinder.
August 6, 2024 at 2:19 pm #2284328Best day with my Livescope was when I sold it. I would rather fish than play video games. Especially while outdoors. It’s amazing the amount of money people will dish out to spend all day watching some blurry lines on a screen.
July 14, 2024 at 7:35 am #2280931Wow. Just inches from killing him and possibly setting off another summer of conflicts and riots in this country. Or possibly worse. Was sickening watching the video. What a mess.
July 10, 2024 at 4:14 am #2280474I’ll have to go check this weekend around the farm. Last year was terrible.
July 5, 2024 at 6:24 am #2279937It’s open again now Steve.. Think it might of been closed for a day. Didn’t make much sense to me either.
July 5, 2024 at 6:19 am #2279936My guess is the closures had to do with the holiday weekend and concern of in experienced boaters out on the river. Then add in having to risk more people that might have to save these boaters if something did happen. Even with that the timing seemed a little off on the closures with a number of these pools past the high water mark. I do believe the announcement for pools 2 and 3 being closed came on the same day that the locks in those areas announced re opening for all boats. Go figure.
July 4, 2024 at 7:00 am #2279830Looks like the Coast Guard has temporarily shut down pool 2 and many other pools of the river to all recreational boating. Wow. I have never seen this action before. Guessing it must have something to do with the Holiday weekend and high water. Pool 2 crested days ago.
July 3, 2024 at 6:20 am #2279663I see Tactacam released a 3.0 version this week. Maybe I’ll put out a camera this weekend to see if the ducks are using the food plot.
June 29, 2024 at 8:56 pm #2279150I see some advertisements about 360 cameras. Anyone try one of these yet?
June 14, 2024 at 6:15 am #2277051Was wondering the same thing. High end crappie bobber rod? The last few years I’ve been fishing Crappie Stix rods and really surprised at the price on them. Maybe I’m missing something the higher end rods are offering but can’t imagine what while watching a bobber. Nice mid range Diawa reel on it and the combo might still be under $150.
June 12, 2024 at 3:57 am #2276724Had this Tom watching my back a couple weeks ago in south Minneapolis.

June 8, 2024 at 10:09 pm #2276348Think those are old rumors. Same stories about long lake east of Aitkin as it’s over 100′ deep. The DNR did just recently stock Splake into long lake. I haven’t heard of anyone catching one yet.
Kinda wish the Smallmouth would make their way up the Rice river and into long and Dam lakes. Would be fun.
June 8, 2024 at 5:59 am #227627220 years ago we didn’t catch many Smallmouth while fishing the Mississippi near Aitkin. Now it’s the main fish we chase up there. Guess that could be said about Mille lacs to. Wonder how long it will be until the Channel cats find their way up the creek from the Mississippi into Cedar lake?
June 6, 2024 at 1:41 pm #2276046We trolled a lot of beetle spins last trip up there. The sunnies have no problem chasing them down. Get out very early morning and troll the cabbage. Trolling can also help to locate areas with the panfish are using then go back and throw bobbers at those spots. We go through a pile of waxies and euro larva while up there. Gump minnows is another good choice to. Chippewa Charlie jigs plenty of different plastics.b
June 5, 2024 at 8:13 pm #2275971For reference, Hidden Harbor closed at 14.5ft back in 2014. It was at the top of the ramp and starting to flood the lot and bar.
I’m not sure they use that ramp by the bar anymore. The other ramp is much higher than that ramp. There also used to be a paybox by the old ramp near the bar door.
June 5, 2024 at 11:25 am #2275884With these water levels I doubt it. Mississippi pub and Willies ramps should still be open. Both are fantastic high water ramps and great places to eat and grab a drink.
June 5, 2024 at 5:35 am #2275815Prices ate getting tough to take but then again many trips the trolling motor is the main motor being used.
Have the transducer gotten any better one the quest models? Is the side imagine transducer worth the extra $300?
June 2, 2024 at 5:26 pm #2275324Decent bite for me today. Caught a little bit of everything throwing a little bit of everything at them. Plastics, hair, cranks. Just worked shoreline current seams and a few wingdams. 27″ was the biggest.

May 30, 2024 at 7:08 pm #2275038Forgot about the can of pennies trick. I could of cracked Oslo with a 2×4 and he would of thought it was play time but he wanted nothing to do with the can of pennies. For awhile anyways. Found out the wife was showing him the can and threatening to shake it. That was the end of that trick.
May 30, 2024 at 5:58 am #2274910When he tries to bite, grab over his muzzle and pinch his lips into his gums with your fingers and say “No!” sternly. It’s got to be done every time by every body interacting with the dog.
Use this advice at your own risk.We did this with Oslo when he was a pup and he just thought it was play time. Same effect with a slap to the snoot. Think are best results came from a few classes with Catie Canine out of Hugo. She set the ground work for us but even with that Oslo also needed to grow out of that puppy stage.
So in short maybe find a good trainer to work with. Then keep working with the dog.
