IMO having enough rope out to get the correct angle for the anchor to hold is just as important as the anchor. I like Digger anchors myself lake or river.

Just tried for the 1st time this weekend. I have humminbird helix 7 G2 and it came with auto chart. All I did was went out on the lake, went into menu and turned on auto chart and drove around at about 4 to 5mph. I’m not saying the map is perfect but it was really easy and is way more than I had before since no map existed of this lake.
April 15, 2017 at 8:24 pm #1688662I tried it out today and it’s awesome. Your right it maps anywhere you go even if the chart built in doesn’t recognize the water your on. All you need to do is turn on auto chart and drive over the area you want to map! I’m definitely getting the zero lines card I can see I’ll be using this feature a lot.
April 14, 2017 at 10:02 pm #1688530Thanks. I have a helix 7 G2 and it has auto chart live. Was just reading up on it and it says it has 8 hours of storage space built in so I’ll start with that see how it works before I buy the chip.
April 14, 2017 at 9:02 pm #1688521Can you map any water with it? I’m thinking of getting the zero lines chip. I want to map some areas in a smaller river near my house that obviously isn’t on map chips and barely shows up as water on the gps map. Just wondering if this kind of thing is possible? Also things like private ponds?
February 21, 2017 at 11:10 pm #16759362012 1600 fishhawk. I really have no complaints. It’s been a great boat. I’ll definitely buy another just gonna be bigger next time.
January 17, 2017 at 11:29 am #1666259Joe if your line wasn’t tight meaning you have slack in the line. I don’t see how you could see the bend in the rod change.
Now if your line is tight meaning no slack wich I guess is how I assume most people fished a jig then yes the difference in the bend in the rod is how you tell when a fish bites.January 17, 2017 at 8:36 am #1666151I’m gonna assume tightlining is just regular jig spoon or lure fishing. And non tightlining is bobber fishing. Guess Ive never heard of the term. Anyway when it comes to noodle rods, if you buy a cheap one likely you will need to watch the tip for a bite indicator. If you buy a good one like a thorne bros or tucr you can feel the bites just fine and you have a soft tip to indicate the bite.
I find its best to use light line and a heavy enough jig to keep you line tight. If your line isn’t tight and you have slack in it I don’t see how you’d be able to tell if you have a bite on any kind of rodJanuary 16, 2017 at 10:44 pm #1666079Absolutely not, although I joke to my wife I need to fish to feed the family.
When it comes down to it everyone has some way to make money. It may not be something you want to do, but there is always a way for anyone who wants to make money to do so.
If anyone is fishing for survival it’s because thats the way they choose to live there life.
I’ve experienced the Hmong at my local lake. They are always respectful and nice people. I don’t know much about there culture, but if they can afford to drive the 2 hours down I35 in there fairly new vehicle and pull out there gas auger flasher and thermal ice tent ide say they are doing well enough not to “need to fish to survive”.I myself fish a lot and keep plenty for my family and friends. I fish for the enjoyment of fishing and the enjoyment of eating some of what I catch.
January 16, 2017 at 6:15 pm #1665992I have a Kenai and really liked it. Installed a boat seat for comfort used it for 6 years with no problems at all. Still in great shape. And I got the floor model at mills so it was under $150.
January 9, 2017 at 7:29 pm #1663950I’m not looking for one but, that’s a good looking rod! Great work!
January 1, 2017 at 10:33 am #1661262My opinion is that you need a couple buddies to go with you and as Brad said drill drill drill. 300 acres isn’t that big so if you drill enough holes you have got to run into them eventually.
December 30, 2016 at 10:59 pm #1661054Fantastic you can catch as many as you want to clean. Stop in at clear lake bait and tackle on hwy 18 next to Ace Hardware and they will tell you where the big schools are. Out in front of the Baptist camp on the NW shore of the big lake has been hot for the last 2 weeks.
December 20, 2016 at 6:52 pm #1658556Perch color works great for both species. I really like #5 rippin raps in the perch color out there. Also for perch the small size jiggin raps. Gold and black or perch. The spoon type things with the dropper chains worked great on waubay tipped with plastic or waxies for both eyes and perch mixed together.
If you get on active fish it won’t really matter what you put down they will eat it.November 12, 2016 at 8:11 am #1650208I think the answer to your original question is simple.
They don’t have to they choose to.
November 6, 2016 at 8:52 pm #1649081I don’t think they are on Saturday morning because they expect you to be out fishing
November 5, 2016 at 10:08 pm #1648935I hunted in the morning and fished in the afternoon. The fishing was a lot better than hunting today. The bite was awesome.
October 27, 2016 at 9:57 pm #1647566Lansing runs about 7.8 when “normal” whatever that is anymore. It’s right at 10 ft and fairly stable even with the rain. The grass has been bad so far this fall.
October 25, 2016 at 10:02 pm #1647101My wife myself and both our kids ware glasses so I know how expensive it can get. We have purchased quite a few pairs of glasses from zenni and have been happy. It’s best if you have a pair you know you like so you can measure to give you an idea of the size of the frames. It is much cheaper and with kids it’s nice to have backup pairs without spending a ton of cash.
October 18, 2016 at 9:27 pm #1645694Catching fish on lures you make is very rewarding for me.
I make all my own jigs and plastics and most of my own ice jigs.It can save you money, but like everything else once get addicted to it, it costs way more than you would think.
It’s great to have baits that catch fish that others can’t even buy.
October 15, 2016 at 5:47 pm #1645135Thanks and ya I’m on Mobil. I’ve never seen the post number till nhamm’s screen shot. I used to be able to see all that and the date myself and everyone else registered but it disappeared. Doesn’t really matter just curios is all.
October 14, 2016 at 9:08 pm #1645086I don’t even have a number of posts and can’t see where anyone else has a number of posts either. I assume I’m signed in or I wouldn’t be able to post.
August 21, 2016 at 4:20 pm #1635073I don’t. I keep mine in my garage that never gets to freezing. Last year I fished from my boat up till Dec 23 and was back on the water in early March. If I had put it in storage I would have missed out on some fantastic fishing.
I guess if you don’t plan to use yours now is as good as any time, but in my opinion the best fishing of the year is still a couple months awayAugust 15, 2016 at 9:53 pm #1634236I have a 1648 with a 25 hp 2002 merc and fished and hunted out of it for years before I got my Crestliner deep V. With just me and some fishing gear it will do 25 mph. That motor is awesome. I’ve beat the crap out of mine and used it 40+ days a year in mud and rocks on a shallower river I live on for the first 12 years of its life and I never did anything to it besides change the lower unit oil and put stabill in it over the winter.
I still use it a ton on the smaller rivers and for bow fishing. I did finally hit something hard enough to bend the prop shaft this year. When I took it in for repairs my mechanic told me they are very desirable motors since they don’t make 2 strokes anymore and I could still easily get $1500+ out of the motor if I wanted to sell it.
I say go for the 1648. Really what’s 2 more feet to hide? I think you’ll be happy with it.
July 10, 2016 at 7:38 pm #1628280I would bet Todd Heitramp at Dakota Angler could point you in the right direction. Great guy and great bait shop.
