I have to agree with you Bill, I’ve have my favorite cranks that are hot on one body of water and colder than hell on another. A few years ago when Rapala stopped making one of my favorite colors on Lake Michigan (chart/silver) for spring brown trout, I didn’t know it until I needed them, there was none to be had, not even at a pretty price. When I found out they reintroduced them, I must of bought 50 chart/silver lures only to find out they’re not my hot color anymore! I have to admit I went out and bought 10 of the Glass Shad Raps after reading about the shortage and known that Brian Sander did well with them where I fish. Did I need them? No. Would I’ve bought them without known Brian did good on them? Probably not. See, this is why this site is so great and why it’s called “In-Depth Angling”.

You may be right Suzuki, Fleet Farm has lots also. The source Tackle Trade is more of a overseas magazine, I’ve haven’t seen anything in the local magazines.

Thanks guys, what you’re saying is like telling me for the first time there’s not a Santa Clause. What will I tell the family when I come home skunked? Well, I have news for you guys, I did catch one with no teeth the other day, if it had teeth I couldn’t see them, then I let the ole sucker go!

Bill, I go no where with out my sunscreen! The Coppertone “Sport” is the best there is as it doesn’t run into your eyes . I got burn’t on top for the first time swimming last year, my kids weren’t kidding when they said I’m going bald ! Coppertone “Sport” even comes in a spray that might work for a replacement hat

I’m sad to hear Leo has moved on to bluer waters. I never met Leo personally, but enjoyed exchanging emails with him. It was only a few weeks ago that I sent him a special order of jigs, it’s hard to think that Leo was fishing right up to his last days. I don’t know how old Leo was, but I hope I leave this great place the same way. I know Leo will be with us in mind and spirit, especially when you set the hooks on a walleye! Thank you Leo Kam.

Kirt, I’ve been using Quantums for a while now because of price and features. I’ve had the bail springs break a couple of times, the reels loosen up after use, then along came the Kinetic and Catalyst reels. I bought a Kinetic last fall and totally loved it, then bought another this spring and then a week later bought a Catalyst. I don’t need to worry about the bail springs breaking anymore because of the new magnetic bail system. There is so many great things about this reel I love and it’s way ahead of the game for “price for features” that I urge you to check them out.

Shawn, I’ve owned and used a lot of different nets, the only net I know you’ll love and never have a complaint about is a Loki net. It is superior for it’s quality in workmanship and materials. The smooth coating is applied to the netting and bow loop both which keeps the netting from moving around the loop for smooth net jobs. Hook tangles are almost nonexistant. If I had to come up with one thing to compain about, it would be the price, but after using the net it’s worth every penny. Let me know if you need any additional info.

Jeff, nice fish. I think it’s time to leave those 3/8s in the box and get out the 3/4 head clunkers and wake those walleyes up!

Yes, I had the honor of sharing the boat with RiverEyes today. Ole Rivereyes is a master when it comes to plastics, just ask a question and he’ll usually will have a answer for you, at least a theory for sure. Here are a few pics of the master himself.

Ken, I just got home from a special run to Evert’s to pick up a copy of the video, with the video being such a hot item, I didn’t trust our fishing fool mailman. The popcorn is popping, just crack a cold one and what a perfect evening to watch something you wish your doing! I really feel bad for all of you! Did I make you feel better?…LOL

Wayne, that’s one big carp, do you have a picture of it to post? The first thing my wife would say if I mounted something like that is; I hope it’s water proof because your not hanging it in this house!

Jeff, the fish did straighten the hook out some, I had tighten my drag down some so I could get the thing up and after the first attemp to net it, it makes a run and darn near pulled me out of the boat!

Jake, the fish was wearing it’s Easter colors! LOL……
I need to find out what kind of buffalo fish it is, may be someone can help me here. I think I made a big mistake by not weighing the beast as I was already was told the following:

    Buffalo, Bigmouth 41-11 38.5 / 29.5, Mississippi River, Goodhue, 05/07/1991

    Buffalo, Black 20-0.5 34.5 / 20, Minnesota River, Nicollet, 06/26/1997

    Buffalo, Smallmouth 13-4 28 / 22, Mississippi River, Ramsey, 11/11/1993

I don’t know what the WI records as I’m a WI lic. holder.

Ron, the fish was pretty lethargic, it came right up from a 25′ hole and swam around the boat until we made it mad trying to net it, the second netting attemp was successful as we got the head in the net and grab the tail to hoist the beast into the boat.

big_walleye, I’m with you with one over 20″ rule for walleyes, lets take it a step further and make it a true trophy walleye with a release slot of 20″- 28″ with one over. I’ve always figure the best way to deal with a “legal” big fish situation, is to educate people before they catch them. To make a release easier, always have a camera at hand.

I would be the first to give $50.00 if I knew that would take care of the “SLOB” problem, but the fact is these slobs never change, the idiots are almost impossible to catch unless you trail them every minute of their lives! I’ve been trying to catch the slob that leaves his plastic Mountain Dew and worm containers along my favorite trout stream everytime down. If you could see the trash my son brings out in his net you would think we’re hauling garbage for a living. These slobs are the same idiots that push land owners to put up the “No Trespassing” signs, do you think they’re going to obey them? Hell no, it just keeps the good honest people out! Do you think these slobs ever think about us tax payers (then included) when they throw their garbage or a lit cigarette out the window? No again and they’re the first ones in line to complain when their taxes go up. Every year I instruct a Design & Making Tackle Class for our local High School Conservation Class and the one thing I tell the students; do yourselves a good deed, pick up the trash that someone left behind. OK, I’m sorry for not solving the “Slob” problem for us, but just wanted you to know how these idiots operate and how I’ve handle it by picking up their trash, it’s hard telling what I will do when I catch one!

Jeff, you’re really missing out, I’ve been at the show for four days and haven’t come close to covering it. I still need to get down to the area that has Hoggies Hummer! Speaking of Hoggie, I had a chance to check out the great selection of Super Do and Ringworm Kits at the Gander Moutain Booth, a must stop if you get down to the show. I also had the pleasure of meeting FTR Pro Staff Chris Tuckner and Steve Dezurik, what a great bunch of guys.

I’ve been a avid user of Fireline for a long time and really like it. Until I was given a spool of the Power Pro by a rep when it first hit the market a couple years back and I couldn’t believe how much better the line held up from fraying vs Fireline. The first spool of Power Pro I used on the river was 15/4 and it didn’t take me long to go to 10/2, The 15/4 should be rated for 50/4 as it’s almost impossible to break loose. Spectra Fibers are impossible to color dye which is why they are so strong, the line color you see is what’s trapped between the woven fibers, this is why the Super Lines will fade over time as the color rubs out. Give Power Pro a try, I did and just love it!

RiverEyes, I wish I could join you and the gang this weekend, especially after you disclosed your fishing plan of attack, I just wish I had the time to fish let alone lay out a whole page! The least you could do is disclose a picture of your boat too! My son is wrestling at the state (WI) tournament this weekend, thats where I’ll be. I can’t wait to hear all the post reports! Good luck to you and the 100 boats that will be following you! LOL…….

Judge Hoggie, I want to congrats you on the fine name you’ve picked. What a great way to tap into the invaluable resources available (guys and gals posting here) on EFN. Do you have someone icing Jame’s head to keep the swelling down? LOL.

OK Dustin, I have cabin fever big-time and could use one of those tapes NOW! I had an chance to fish with James a few weeks back and all I can say I’m hooked on plastics, it was a awesome experience, I can’t believe how aggresive walleyes can be in such lethargic conditions! I did well on live bait earlier in that day but the fish were hardly aggresive to say the least, not so with plastics, they would attack with vengance consuming the entire package! Fisherpeople, you guys (that means gals too) are in for a treat, BIG TIME!

Dave, I think I can help you out. Take US 63 north out of Red Wing to US 35, take a right on US 35 South until you come to County Road C on your left but take a right on what I think is Airport Road, follow the road until it makes a good bend to the right and stay to your right (looks like your going through someone’s back yard)down the hill. I’ve haven’t been there in a while. Most of the lake is about five feet deep except for a 30 foot hole that can open up in a day in mild temps. Follow the shoreline up to your right past the 30 foot hole to where the drop off begins, fish the drop off for some super nice crappies, white bass and sunnies. Have some crappie minnows along for a plain hook and split shot rig. Good Luck!
