2-3 foot of water, under a dock, Isle Bay. We also had one on the next morning in the same general area. This one took a Spittin’ Image for about 5 minutes of fun before she just let go.
We pulled this 40″er in last Saturday. What makes this story interesting is we were bass fishing with 3″ tubes. My buddy brought this fish in using 8lb test, no leader, and a 3/0 hook. She fought for only @ 10 minutes before we hand-landed her, snapped a quick photo and put her back.
I almost prefer wading for smallies versus fishing from my boat. I can go straight from work and be fishing on the North Branch within 20 minutes. My absolute favorite approach is to grab the canoe, and make a day out of paddling from one hole to the next, stopping at each for a few hundred casts.
