So they are finally cleaning out he half moon landing? That use to be great fishing from shore about 5 yrs ago. The last few times I went it was pretty sad. Hopefully that will turn it back around The kids are finally big enough to enjoy it with me!

Technically if you access at a public bridge and keep your feet wet surrounding private property you are legal. Ask permission though, landowners appreciate this.

There is enough easements in this state why bother? Get permission or don’t go, imo! To many people strech this to the fullest but why urine the people off?

As far as a rod I would recommend a 6′ med light rod that is nice and sensitive. Fuzzy jigs work well too. Olive and black seem to do the best in sizes 1/32-1/8.

We are experiencing the same thing at work. We switched providers three years ago. The first two years we were able to lock in the increases, so last year and this year I believe it will be a total increase of 34%! They have to make up for the first two years! And we are not shopping around! Makes sense!

I suffer from corhn’s disease and am really nervous about this whole deal!

Chomps couldn’t you get around the tax issue with an HRA. It is still considered group health plan but would allow you to purchase the plan you want on the open market. At least that is how it is here among the mudducks from my understanding.

What designated trout stream means it there is a strip of land on both sides of the stream that anyone can fish regardless of it being public or privately owned. So long as you access the water from a public access, you are permitted to fish the waters as long as you stay on that area of land permitted by law.

If this was the case why would the DNR spend money purchasing easements from land owners? Also, why would the trout maps have special colors for streams with easements? I am not an expert but this does not sound right to me? I have been told that if you stay in the water you are fine, but isn’t there enough water with easements? Why would you want to deal with the hassle?

That’s how I read it too…. the only thing is, how do they “make up” funds, when in my opinion… .25% less across the board, cannot hardly be made up by 6.25% on a pair of jeans…

They must have some new math no one else knows about!

Can I start picking and choosing which taxes I want to contribute to?

I thought sales tax in Owattana was 7%? I think it is higher than 7% in Rochester.

    Rod looks good!

Why did you build a 2wt rod than use 4wt line? I have a 2wt 6’6″ that I use 3wt line love the fight! Just curious what the benefit was for going up 2wts.

The DNR had folks out at alot of the registration sites checking teeth and recording other data this past year.

    Winkels;
    where did this take place?
In 26 years of deer hunting, I have NEVER had the Cannon Ball in Cannon Falls, MN or the Holiday Station in Hastings MN EVER look at any animal shot.
It is common knowledge that the Cannon Ball NEVER looks at any animal. So, if the registration sites are NOT inspecting teeth, and the DNR is performing a “small, snap shot review”, again there is no scientific data…

DNR folks where outside Gander in Rochester and Good Sports in St. Charles.

I seen it with my own eyes but did not get a chance to speak the the DNR folks personally they where pretty darn busy. I asked a hunter registering a deer at one site and spoke to an employee at the other site. I hope I did not misinform anyone and apologies if I did.

They were in these same locations about 3-5 yrs ago collecting heads as well over the cwd scare.

If you watch the video on the dnr website about the proposed changes the state parks are mentioned. Yes they have point restrictions. I think you can jump right to that clip for the details.

I would say moving it back a week or two would be a good idea.

I am still wondering why we need 4 firearms seasons. Can anyone fill me in on this? I get the youth hunt, muzzle loader is debatable, given you can use them during the normal firearms season and technology advancements, but a “buck season” and a “doe”. What is the reasoning behind this?

There is no longer a “buck season” and a “doe” season. There is a 300A Season and a 300B Season, either season you can take a buck or a doe depending on what area you are in within the 300 zone.

Exactly, that is why they were in quotations, so what is the reasoning behind the 2 seasons?

I hunt with a bow and with a firearm. Bow season is for the mainly for the hunt. Firearms season is more for spending time with friends and family bsing. More time to bow hunt is due to the tactics I would assume.

I am not in favor of antler restriction. I would like to see party hunting go away, and would be in favor of shorting the 2 seasons to 1 which takes place later in November. I would think the pressure from all seasons affect the deer herd more than the number of points. The timing and length of seasons have to play a major role in the health of the herd as well.

I think this is in part a money game more than conservation driven ideals!

I still have not found a reason for the 2 zone 3 seasons regardless of what they are called. Is this a just because it has always been? Zone 4 had 2 seasons at one time as well but is no more. Are the politics that strong in zone 3?

We do it everyday Hardest part is removing and trimming the bumper cover. That is, if your good at wiring

    big G

Wiring I can handle the bumper is my biggest fear. I was reading the estimated install time on the Reese hitch w/ stow n’ go it said 25min. I thought that was off because when I bought the van they told me the bumper has to be dropped.

Does it depend on the brand of hitch if the bumper has to be dropped?

HRG,I am located in MN, thanks for the instructions!

Push Pin is probably the easiest to use, but most just take a little practice to get used to. Like most I use a variety of calls.

Don’t worry about sounding perfect either. I have heard some of the nastiest sounds come from real live hens! Thought for sure it was another hunter choking on their diaphragm

How about the state do what it said it was going to do, use the lottery money, also how about they realize they don’t have a money tree to pluck whatever money their favorite BS program calls for, how about they become financially responsible and then we wouldn’t have to pay more????

This thread is directly linked to govt spending and irresponsible politicians.

Al….who’s not buying the “we need more money” from govt crooks.

You guys are a lot better folks than I am! No way in hell would I pay $150 dollars for a license! I don’t care where the money goes!

If you break it down month by month sure it is not bad, but then I have a mortgage, car payments, health insurance, medical bills, energy, food, oh yeah gas that is way over priced they have done nothing with to lower the price on, taxes , an unemployed wife do to this wonderful economy, etc…

I know the majority have the same bills, and I know I am better off than a lot of people, I am very grateful of that!

The government needs to start making some tough decisions that don’t empty my wallet!

Start cutting the size of the government and all their perks then you wont need more of my money!

You could up it $50 dollars I don’t think it will make the DNR better off. Take back the lottery funds. They were for the DNR until the politicians realized the amount of money that was there. Correct me if I am wrong the DNR is given a set budget from the legislators just like every other department.

Winkels, what if you had him practice shooting the 20 guage with lighter low base loads to help with flinching. In the mean time you get the choke and turkey load patterned and come time to hunt slip in the heavy loads. At the moment of truth with adrenalin he wont even know the difference.

Boy why didn’t I think of that! I am just glad we don’t have to pay for the advice we get on here I would be broke!!

    Thanks guys!

One other thing as long as I am right next to him he does not need hunter safety correct? I am trying to find a class to get him in.

Ps: so this is where everyone hangs out What the heck are fish bucks?

    Welcome!

It has been pretty dead at that other place. I believe fish bucks are used to pay for classifieds. I am sure you can use them for other things as well but I could not tell you what else. I am sure someone will chime in on it.

BK I can not support any increase for the government or any of its programs at this time they have everything so screwed up.

I just got my newsletter from my elected official. It stated the this state is in a world of hurt.

Qoute,”According to most experts, Minnesota faces the most serious fiscal crisis it has seen since the Great Depression. In December, the state’s finance directors released a budget forecast that showed Minnesota facing a projected $1.2 billion budget shortfall for the current two-year cycle. Lowerthan- expected income tax revenue – caused by the still sluggish economy and high unemployment–is responsible for 70% of the shortfall.”

I could have told them that for a lot less money! I think most of us could have!

We have a lot of worries not just fishing fees. The knuckleheads in government need to get a clue. I mean all the knuckleheads at all levels.

Now is not the time to be raising anything. Money is tight for everyone and it does not sound that promising for the immediate future either.

    Just my 2 cents!!

Thanks DT, the adrenalin should be pumping enough while hunting he wont hear or feel a thing! I am just a little nervous about practicing, but if he cant handle it we will just have to wait. I am not going to force him into it and run the risk of turning him away!

Do you really want to shoot your 1 deer???

I do have permission to hunt on another property. I have been seeing a few deer on it. The little S.O.B’s have been staying on the other side of the fence where I can’t shoot! It’s like they know that! Well within range and down wind even, so I moved my stand just a little. Hopefully that will help me put the down on one!
