Yeah, and those drink parasols work well to keep your finger samiches dry out on the boat in the rain.

I’m not at all in favor of a new Gopher stadium. Let the “wise” Regents pay for their own stadium. Retrofit and remodel the dome for the Vikings is best IMHO. I do like the idea of a new Twins stadium, but I have mixed feelings bout the tax increase, we pay way too much in the first place. But, if we do tax finance a new Twins stadium, I’d like to see it built in Duluth. Build it somewhere on the waterfront near the DECC, or up on the hill.
April 20, 2006 at 1:29 am #439674hey Walleye_GFA, talk DrewsDad into coming up on the same weekend. We’ll do a floatilla on Vermilion, like the fun we had on Mille Lacs last fall.
March 2, 2006 at 8:22 pm #425985No matter what you do..or don’t do, you’re still wrong.
Just before my marriage, my Pop gave me some sound advice. He said, “Nobody’s happy unless momma’s happy. When she’s unhappy your mother’s unhappy. When your mother is unhappy…you don’t want to go there”.
No dboubt the fans will be changed a few times. Just the small price of happiness.

What do you guys have on your list?
Get the Honey to-do list done, alright get as much as I can as it will never get totally done.
Ron
Yeah, the trouble with those darn Honey Do Lists is that they’re forever expanding.
Air out the boat to get rid of the mothball smell.
February 17, 2006 at 7:25 pm #421595Please, no more snow!
With this coldsnap, looks like a good evening in front of the tube and watch the Olympics. I hope they televise curling. The tip-up dash should be an Olympic event.
January 14, 2006 at 5:48 am #411848The maple Grove motel in Finland sells bait, they’d know where to go.
December 16, 2005 at 4:34 am #404494Oy, vey, $5! I just can’t dip anymore. Tried it once many moons ago. I got the head rush buzz, then the spins, then heaved until the angels sang.
I think that cured me. LOL
Good luck to all on quitting. Get about 50 pounds of sunflower seeds and Tootsie Pops, they do help.
December 15, 2005 at 1:34 am #404081What, Copenhagen is now in pouches??!!! It took me nearly 3 years to quit the craving for a dip of Cope after I finally quit. Smoking was easy to give up, Copenhagen was impossible. I think I quit dipping no less than 7 times.
Just curious, what does a can cost these days? I remember paying around 75 cents back in the day. Is the Copenhagen can still cardboard?
Oh, and those MT Dip cans make for some nice crush proof wax worm containers.
Good luck to all; you can do it!
October 18, 2005 at 2:56 am #390315Good tips as well, BP. I’d love to go too! But alas, I am boatless in the Cities. Plus the honeydo list has gotten larger. So I need to buckle down before the ice season.
October 12, 2005 at 2:07 am #3892712.6? Man, I thought anything above 2 was too fast. I’m new to this trolling crankbaits, it’s been a fun learning curve for me. I can’t troll down lower than 2.9 on the big motor, so I’ve been using the bow mount at 1.6. Maybe I’m trolling too slow?
October 12, 2005 at 1:11 am #389257Wow, nice crappie! I sure wish I could find some of those on the east end.
October 12, 2005 at 1:03 am #389255First off, which end of the lake are you staying, east end, west end?
Each end is a bit different. The west end, which I know little about, has a lot more weed beds and is more clear than the east. (It’s generally accepted that the Oak Narrows is the dividing line between east and west).
East end, which I know a lot more about, is more stained from inflowing rivers, which are low now. The lake is a good 2.5 to almost 3 feet low compared to last spring.
Pike Bay is even more stained than Big Bay. But the lake has been more clear in recent years.
Big Bay as well as the east end has a ton of rock piles and reefs, many exposed and just below the surface out of sight. The hazard buoys are off the lake now, so get a good map and use caution.
As of last weekend, I graphed water temps around 54 degrees. Last Friday, I found big walleyes liking chub minnows on a lighted slip bobber setup set at 6 feet from 9pm to 1 am. I quit at 1am due to the line and rod eyelets freezing, 29 degrees.
We trolled spinners/crawlers and perch Rapalas with bottom bouncers in 20 to 30 feet of water. Got a few walleyes thsi way and a nice 15 inch smallie. Never did find where exctly they were at in the morning/afternoon. I suspect near deeper water where the whitefish may be staging for their fall spawn. Never saw a muskier either, probably out near deeper structure, speculation here.
Take care!
July 18, 2005 at 5:07 pm #373550I had the same questions when I built my basement. I was told to put the vapor barrier against the block wall, then the studs and insulation, and sheetrock. The idea being that the block wall will whick up moisture from the exterior ground and the plastic will prevent the wood studs from soaking up the dampness from the block wall.
Half way thru the project, I was told to put the plastic on behind the sheetrock and not on the block wall. Both parties of this information said they were right. Either way, I was confused.
Not wanting to undo what I already did, I left it; now, half my basement the plastic is against the block wall, the other half is behind the sheetrock. Eight years later, there still are no moisture problems in my basement.
This doesn’t help, but I was told 2 different things.
July 12, 2005 at 12:47 pm #372587Joel,
I’m so sorry to hear about Jonathan passing away. Words can not express our sincerest condolences. Hang in there and keep his memories close to your heart. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Rob
June 23, 2005 at 2:46 pm #369716I have succes lindy rigging with crawlers. The hatch typically peake just before July 4th. For the past 10 years on July 4th, we’ve seen mats of the bugs floating out in Big Bay the end of June, first few days of July.
May 17, 2005 at 3:31 pm #363464It was cold and windy, upper 40’s to just above 50 depending on where you were according to my Lowrance. Lake leve seems up a bit from last year.
May 17, 2005 at 3:28 pm #363462I measured 50.9 degree water temps in the 7 Sisters Islands area, 48.4 degrees in Big Bay near Jackrabbit Island.
Others like Terry will have to help you with the bass. He knows the wiley ways of the smallies!
May 11, 2005 at 2:17 pm #362507Thanks, this is perfect! Just what I’ve been looking for. I installed a T. Motor mount transducer on my MinnKota. I used it once, and the cord nestled nicely in the pinch point. I spent the rest of the time being careful to avoid this.
Any other methods of stabilizing the motor besides the RAM mount?
May 11, 2005 at 1:55 pm #362502Weekends in July should be good…Geez, summer isn’t even here and it’s planned to the hilt on Vermilion. Weeknights I imagine are tough. This working deal is highly over rated.
May 11, 2005 at 1:37 pm #362496And a fine boat it is, DD! Let me know; I am more than willing to help you break in your nearly new boat more thourougly.
March 15, 2005 at 4:30 pm #349807I sure hope this is helping you through your difficult time and you seek some professional help.
I can’t say I know how you feel, but I used to unpredicatably fly off the handle in a rage for no apparent reason.
My wife and I changed our pasta and carborhydrate rich diet to the South Beach Diet, where only the unprocessed carbs are allowed. After 6 months of nearly a carb free diet, my mood has markedly changed; I feel better, sleep better, lost some weight, and most importantly, I no longer go off in a rage.
I’m no expert on this dietary thing, but our diets are low in fat due to the no fat craze, and high in sugars to make these low fat foods palatable. Trouble is, these low fat high sugar foods are not only making us hefty, but altering our mood swings. Just some thoughts.
Take care.
March 1, 2005 at 3:16 am #346221I stopped at Fleet Farm to purchase the new license. Decided to chance it and get the combination husband /wife Sportsmans license. Dang those questions; when the clerk aske for my wif’es height, I stood there dumbfounded, and made the best guess I could. When the clerk asked for my wife’s weight, I froze in fear! I have no idea, worse yet, either way I answer this, it can’t be good.
I made my best guess, and paid for the licensure. Then I remembered I needed a trout stamp, paid for that. Then, I again remembered I needed the dark house license, and paid a third time. Crap! that weight question had me all befuddled.
March 1, 2005 at 3:07 am #346217dd,
I’ve been thinking about spending some time fishing for these river cats but haven’t made that first cast. Something we should look into I think.February 23, 2005 at 3:43 am #345064What, free is too expensive?
Sounds like a nice walleye, Walleye Kid. This has been a fun ice season, but I am more than anxious for the open water season. We’re on a mission to find some Vermilion sunnies.
Opener is a ways off, but still plenty of time to get ready.
See you at the muskie Expo! 2 Openers in as many months, can we be so lucky?
February 15, 2005 at 9:57 pm #343377Duct tape them to the ceiling inside, fron to back, maybe angling them from corner to corner, take the reels off though.
February 14, 2005 at 4:53 am #342987I hope to trolll more crankbaits for walleyes this season. I’m sure there’s been a discussion about this already.
