Skunk off is sold at pet stores, its a white bottle with a skunk on it. It works pretty good, make sure you follow the directions on the bottle and dont wet your dog down before use. I’ve been lucky that I havent had to use it for a few years but keep a couple of bottles around just in case.

April 30, 2003 at 1:50 am #265431I’ve made only a few rods in the coarse of the last year and by no means are an expert. It is not a whole lot cheaper than buying a rod off the shelf but you can custimize the rod to your liking. I see your from the northern suburbs, Thorne Bros./ Fly angler have all the components to get you started. And they offer instruction and you can build your rod there if you buy your stuff from them. A couple of guys in there are helpful, a couple not so much. Don’t be afraid to ask questions.
Cabelas also sells complete kits online all you have to is assemble. Good luck, JasonMarch 13, 2003 at 1:03 am #254386I’ve had beaver cooked for me once about ten years ago. It wasn’t to bad that I recall. It kinda tasted, well like, beaver.
September 13, 2002 at 12:46 am #246187Yes, been catchin’ lots of those 7-12″ walleyes. I pretty sure those were all those little bait thieves that were stacked up at the airport last winter. The future looks very good.
September 12, 2002 at 9:20 pm #246185Thanks guys, I’m definitly going to check into the lifetime license for myself and kids. Thanks again, Jason
August 13, 2002 at 9:13 pm #245335I’ve been out on pool2 a three times since last friday and fishing has been good. Right now on the upper end of the pool (Mn. river confluence on up) 14″-18″walleyes are easy pickens. Just work the current breaks until you find the fish. And where there is one there is fiftey. Also caught two nice small mouths in these same areas pitching hair jigs shallow.
I was out later last night trying to figure out the wingdams a little better, fished awile without much luck. But I got into an area where the baitfish were getting pushed out of the water up against the shoreline and the whites were thick there. I just through them a smaller rattle trap and they hammered ’em, lots of fun on pool2 right now.July 2, 2002 at 12:08 am #230056Just bringing this back to the top because it is important for everyone to get envolved here.
I wrote my letter, how about you?
I’ve never been one for political activism, I have always gone with the flow not rocking the boat. But for some reason this gate issue just jerks me the wrong way. Maybe because it effects my families favorite pastimes of fishing and boating. And I hate to see the DNR roll over when threatend with a lawsuit by a few wealthy mucky mucks.
I would just hate to see a presidence start here and more public lands and waters be taken away from future generations.
Oh yeah being that I live in South Washington county where the gate is located, my legislative people will be hearing from me, as soon as I figure out how to get a hold of them. Like I said havent been much of a political activist. Sorry for rambling on. JasonJune 26, 2002 at 7:20 pm #244621Just thought I would through my two cents in here – The auto pilot feature on my three month old unit is JUNK !!!!! And is a complete waste of money. The only time it comes even close to holding a course is if there absolutly no wind or current moving the boat around. I’ve become so disgusted with it I haven’t turned the A.P. on in the last two months, other than that no other problems with the unit.
May 14, 2002 at 12:49 am #242892bri_, I caught the fish from the Steamboat’s dock on up river in 16′ of water earlier in the morning. And then the fish moved deeper when a few more boats moved in. I only took two or three drifts in front of the docks, nothing happened so I moved on. I’m also planning on going out wed. morning. I’ll be in the black Crestliner with the 115 Yamaha and I think my 4 yr old will be with. Stop by and say Hi.
May 1, 2002 at 1:23 am #242213Prescott area was not very good for me last wekend. Friday tried plastics shallow and deep and everywhere in between came up with the the big goose egg (0). On sat. a buddy and I fished the dock area hard with jig/minnow caught nothing. Fished the wing dams down river from there, caught nothing. Tried three waying, long lining, casting cranks throughout the area, caught nothing. We did catch a severe case of wind burn on saturday though. I dont know if the new boat has bad ju – ju or what the deal was. But both days only seen three small saugers caught, in front of the dock area.
April 19, 2002 at 2:02 am #241429I got to give the Garmin 12 the thumbs up also. They are inexpensive (seen them for$139) reliable and tough. Ive dropped mine more than once out of the deer stand about twelve feet up and never had a problem. Also its very simple to use.
April 14, 2002 at 7:28 pm #241076I just returned from the cabin in north west Wisc. about 20 miles southeast of Hayward. There is water everywhere up there. The Chippewa and Flambue are way high and all the swamps and small streams that are flow into them are flooded. Plus there is alot of snow in the woods and north facing hillsides yet to melt. Needless to say there is a lot of water heading south towards the mississippi.
March 31, 2002 at 1:30 am #240030Fishing seemed to be better earlier in the day, we started at the dam at 6:30 a.m. to beat the crowds. We caught 5 saugers 3 walleyes between 15-19 inches in about hour and half. The walleyes were caught in 13-16 feet, sauger 20-25′, jig and minnow and hair jigs. After that we moved down river from spot to spot to avoid the crowds which was tough to do today and picked up smaller saugers here and there on jig/minnow, same depths. Fishing slowed after 10 am for us.
March 11, 2002 at 12:43 am #238708The bridge that crosses the backwater channel, just before you go up the hill by Sheily’s gravel pit can produce about any type of fish in the river. There is a slight current there and the fish seem to hang out by the bridge pillars and all the fallen timber in the area. We sometimes go down on a warm summer evening with a bucket of crawlers and a bucket of beer and kick back on the banks and drown worms and catch something of everything. Walleyes, Sauger, Largemouth Bass, Catfish, Carp, Suckers, Sheep Head etc. etc. I do know the walleye fishing is better in the spring with the high water but we have caught them in the heat of the summer also. Man I miss the heat of the summer.
February 15, 2002 at 12:31 am #237308Hey Jon, I thought nothing said it all like buying myself, I mean my honey, a new boat today, to bad its six weeks from delivery. Boy my wife is great.
February 10, 2002 at 12:47 am #237059The ramp just below the 494 bridge in South St. Paul is a good bet for this time of year. It is usally ice free unless we get a few really cold nights. A couple guys from the board do an excellent job of keeping it clean. This access puts you close to a few prime winter fishing holes. Also Hidden Falls upstream by the dam stays open but I have never used this one in the winter.
February 6, 2002 at 1:14 am #236933I stopped in at the pool2 494 bridge acces this afternoon (2-5). The ramp is iced in with ice that reaches about thirty yards out into the river. Hopefully it will clear out with the warm temps coming wed. and thurs. I guess it really dont matter for me, being I just sold my boat and it will take a month or so to get my new one. I guess I’ll have to suffer through the next month with only being able to ice fish.
January 23, 2002 at 10:36 pm #236571I stopped at the ramp today also, the ice should be gone by friday, with the warm weather predicted, if not it wont take much work to clear it out. I would have done it but I dislocated my right shoulder last night getting out onto the ice on Lake Phalen. Dont ask how, lets just say i’m not as graceful as a couple years ago. Have fun this weekend I’m probally going to have to lay low. Hard to set the hook when cant move your arm more than a couple of inches.
January 19, 2002 at 12:26 am #236487If you guys ever get the chance read Ted Nugets’ book God Guns and Rock n’ Roll. Its very good, some parts can be a little radical but I agree with many of his ideals. Its also filled with many memorible quotes. One that stands out is ” Animals have rights, the right to butter and garlic before being tossed into the frying pan.” Don’t get me wrong I have a great respect for animals, and most of that respect comes from the time spent outdoors hunting and fishing, observing them in their enviroment, not watching them on T.V.
January 11, 2002 at 10:51 pm #236351Jon, Just wondering how you did today? Thinking of heading out tomorrow sometime. Thanks Jason
January 11, 2002 at 10:46 pm #236350Eye- Guide,
It was good to meet you last night, thanks for the info on the boats. I checked out that voucher you mentioned and the sales people were giving that discount through the end of the show. I am trying to figure out exactly what I want and dont want on that rig. My head has been spinning with all the options (and money) that a guy can put into a fishing rig. I figure a little more sweet talking and butt kissing to the misses and hopefully you’ll see me cruising down the river this spring in a new C-liner,November 25, 2001 at 11:28 pm #235089He is still around, Ijust received a package in the mail the other day from him. All I did was give him a general idea of what I wanted (jigs, bucktails, etc.) and the area I fish the most, and he set me up. Just send him an email, for me that was the best way to get a hold of him. His web site is riverwalleyes.com
November 11, 2001 at 2:07 am #234816I was back down there early Thursday morning and got skunked. I was working the same stretch from the tressle on down to that first river bend tried jig and minnow and trolling and casting cranks with no luck. The wind was just brutal that morning it was blowing straight down that section of river. There was a few different groups fishing for crappies and were getting a few here and there, it might be something to try. They were fishing fallen timber areas with minnows under a float. Good luck.
November 7, 2001 at 1:31 pm #234726Chappy, It was nice to meet you down on the river yesterday. I stayed about half hour after you left and caught one more of those small sauger, so you didnt miss out on much. I think I’ll be going down again early thurs. morning and give it another try. I’m sure I’ll see you on the water again. Mongo
October 2, 2001 at 1:17 pm #234030DeeZee, What did you take your fish on? The other day I couldnt catch a fish an live bait, all were taken on cranks. Thanks, Jason
September 27, 2001 at 1:52 pm #233958Fishing down river from you yesterday morning and the bite was very very good. I was fishing north of the 494 bridge tolling shad raps. The best fish were a 25″ walleye and a 20.5″ sauger which is the biggest sauger I’ve ever caught.I also caught quite a few white (silver) bass in the same areas. All the fish are fat, looks like they are eating everything in site. Ive never fished to much in the fall opting to spend my time bowhunting. If the fishing stays this good the bow might be for sale.
September 7, 2001 at 9:36 pm #232977Last winter ar Lake of the woods some !@$$^& !@#$* broke into the back of my truck and cleaned out all my Ice fishing gear. My insurance company covered it under my home owners policy. Minus the deductible. The catch was I had to give them an itemized list of every piece of tackle that was stolen. I couldn’t just say “I had $300dollars worth of jigs, $100 worth of jiggin rapalas, etc”. They wanted to know every indivual piece. For gods sake I had a jig box that weighed 30-40 lbs, unless you have a great memory, TAKE PICTURES OFF ALL YOUR EQUIPMENT, every jig tray, every rod and reel. And there is stuff that can not be replace, G.P.S coordinates, the spot on a spot if you know what I mean . Dont forget to back that info up somewhere. It was a hard lesson learned. I guess we live in a day in age where know one can be trusted. And that sucks!!! Jason
