Yeah, Vexilar is so good it knows before the fish is going to bite and says ‘Get Ready!!’ ;-)

No that’s just the demo. The main screen just shows the depth and range it’s set in.

Pro Pack is just another setup that will fit in a bucket. Some guys like that better. Personally I don’t like something that round. Seems to spin next to a hole.

Why pay $250 for something you can customize and do yourself with your own options? Also if you think you want a shuttle and Vexilar will work with it also!!

Just a little over two weeks before opener. No excuse to be thin on fishing gear. Hopefully the new one in Monticello will be better.

One option is to get the Rhino (Otter) Extended front ATV box. You can then put any electronics on a Genz Blue Box and just strap it down. There for it’s easily removable and you won’t need an extra flasher.

Here is the response from Sean as there is very little supply now in the US as they sold pretty quick.

“Hilltop Sports in Greenville MI got a VERY limited supply of Klondaikes yesterday…on 2 per size 8-14.”

I guess they are the only ones that now have all sizes and you’ll have to call them asap to get them shipped to you.

    Hope this helps.

I really want a pair. Thorne Bros has none left in my size, 14. Do you know any other USA retailers? I can’t find any online.

I’ll get back to you later today. I’ll reach out to Sean Warner and find out.

In general there are about 7-10″ in Malmo Bay. As always there will most likely be a pressure ridge that runs along the north shore so I would recommend giving Castaways a call to make sure current conditions before you head up.

Will is spot on as always!! We were there Sunday and we went out by Barancles. There is a crack on the North end about 2 feet wide then that runs the whole North end from what I could tell. It refroze but can easily open up again so as Will stated call to get info or even better yet get a group to go. We did make it out to the North End Flats and didn’t see anything less than 7″ the whole way. Warmer temps is going to make the ice sheet expand so it’s a day to day deal for sure.

All, I really know the guys who have them love them. Lightest boot out there and a removable liner in a rubber boot should be awesome. I’ll be getting mine in a few weeks when we (USA Ice Team) goes to Latvia for a training trip. I can have a report after then but I would suppose you would want to buy then. All I can say for now though its the boot I would want to get.

What Merican Eagle says is my guess. I have both drills and yes it seems like the Fuel has more torque but I assume the more torque is eating the battery faster.

Thanks for your response Lawrence. I do currently own a 1 year old Dewalt XRP DCD 950 KX. I’m having trouble getting any responses as to whether this model would be sufficient for the 8″ K-Drill. Based on your comments it sounds like it would be under powered?

Yes, I would only suggest the DCD995/DCD996 or Fuel for best results.

If you can find a DeWalt XR 20v DCD996 or DCD995 you’ll get about 10-15 more holes per 5ah battery. With the said buy what ever DeWalt XR (995,996) or Fuel (2703-22) you find on sale.

evobassfish, all the info should be found on the fb page here. There is a boundaries post. With that said there is no doubt a person without a machine could win this. You could easily walk to the spot we got forth last year from the launch!! ;-)

Riverruns, the NAIFC event last year was awesome. They’ve fixed the issue of being in some sketchy water and set the boundaries to where everyone will be fishing anyways. Fishing was absolutely awesome there. Everything from 2lb perch, 1.7lb crappies and 1lb gills where caught there. It’s an amazing place. I just wish we could make this year but I’ll be in Latvia training for the Worlds that weekend.

You’ll get about ten more holes with the DeWalt XR 995 or 996 model than the Fuel 18v with both using a 5ah battery. Buy whatever kit you find on sale. I’ve seen the 995 or 996 kits for $207 but haven’t seen them for awhile.

If i still ran a gas auger I would go back to the digger or get the new one from Excel outdoors. But since I’m gas free going on five years now kolpin do just fine with 10lb augers!

Here is my setup. I use the Kolpin rack as I only use electric drill augers now anyways! The Rhino Extended Lid just rocks up front and you can the attached items. As for the rear I love the Plano Box and I attached a Frabill Rod locker to the top of it.

I actually have owned a Tanaka and it’s simply the best gas auger out there. It’s simply the best when paired with a Lazer Hand auger. (blows away the Nils in speed) With that said I’m now going on my fifth year all electric and you simply can’t beat not dealing with gas.

As for the electrics nothing is faster and better battery life than a DeWalt XR 20V and a Lazer hand auger when talking 5″-7″ augers. But once I go to 8″ Auger I love the K-Drill setup.

Unless drilling where I could drill into the sand then I’ll bring out 6″ K-Drill. And yes to answer the question I was drilling off the beaten path to dull the blades but hey I was trying to win a tourney. ;-)

Fishing the backwaters of the Mississippi just north of Alma, WI. Looking for holes and cuts withing the fingers there. Just hit one grain of sand and gone will your lazer blade be. I was drilling in no mans land a lot. lol

The 5+ definitely fixes the missing part of the Aqua-Vu Micro by adding Direction and a heavier camera. I would highly suggest spending the extra money for the 5+ and get the Direction. It will save so much time drilling holes in weed beds.

I still love the handhelds for Ice fishing. There fore when I get away from my machine no need to run back and forth to mark a spot. If I need to look at a bigger map I pull out my iPhone.

Lazer is faster but where you gain your speed back is that with the K-Drill there is no slush in the hole when you done. Also last year during the NAIFC Alma event I learned the real value of the K-Drill. After I was on my 5th set of blades and last set during prefishing we turned to the K-Drill a buddy had. Same sandy areas the K-Drill just wouldn’t dull. Personally I run a Lazer 5 and 6″ hand auger for panfish and a K-Drill 8″ for Walleyes.

I like my 28 also but I’m either not used to, or not 100% sold on that 9 degree transducer in shallow water. I’m not sure I wouldn’t buy the head unit and a 12 degree transducer if I was to do it again, otherwise the unit works very well and I’m glad I bought it. It’s super simple to use and dependable compared to the MarCum units.

I used to get frustrated with that too at first. Then I learned to switch it to LP and then crank the gain up. It will widen the cone out for you.

Mathew, is dead on with this one. There isn’t a better transducer to use in the shallow water than a Pro View Ducer. Widen that secondary cone created only with a Pro View Ducer in lower power or weed mode is just absolutely amazing!!

I can’t imagine how multipliers work better in deeper water for a couple of reasons. Even the 5mm tungsten I can’t strip off fast enough from a schooley without it bunching up while dropping a jig down a hole. A jig simply can’t fall fast enough. Using a slow reeling schooley to pull up a fish in deep water actually has many benefits for keeping a fish alive.

As for using spoons and etc. you loose any benefit at all using an in line reel as the spoons twist the line themselves and line twists aren’t an issue. You should be using a spinning reel while using a spoon because of it.

You would be amazed that every year there is new guys that show up with the best most expensive rod and reels made. By the end of the season they have joined the clue and have bought schooley’s.

Schooley’s are the number one winning reel on the NAIFC, Ultimate Panfish League and Team Extreme circuits. I even had the guys at Tuned Up Custom Rods build me custom rod just for the reel!!
