I got out and tried the new shack this past weekend. It worked like a champ. Went out on the St. Croix and there was a little wind so all I had to do was use a couple of the ice screws it came with before I actually popped open any of the hubs. Went up smoothly and came down even quicker. Plenty of room in there for me too. Was able to get a nice little set up with two holes for fishin and a middle hole for the AquaVu. Thanks to all for the input on this shack. Even though I have only used it a couple times so far I would recommend it to anyone looking for a new portable shack right now.

thanks to all for the quick and helpful responses. I think I may just give this shelter a try. The first couple times I set it up in my basement it was a bit tricky for me, but once you get the hang of it, it does go up pretty quick. Inside there is plenty of room, easily fits two guys. Seeing how I usually fish by myself down at school, it is more than enough for myself and is relatively light to carry. Thanks again.
May 21, 2007 at 4:54 pm #573320Well after reading this post I feel better not being the only one who didn’t do well on Winnie this year. I was up fishing winnie from last wed (5/16) to saturday (5/19) and it was the worst trip we’ve had, as far as fishing goes (its always great to get up there even if the fishing is lousy). We have been doing this trip every year for the past 8-10 years and the fishing was pretty poor this year. We netted a number of fish over 17″ but out of the three days we fished we probably only kept 10-12 walleyes between the 4 of us fishing. Lindy rig with a leech seemed to be all we could catch the eyes on. even the perch bite this year was a bit slow. I don’t know if it was the weather/goofy spring we had this year but the fishin wasn’t the greatest. good luck.
December 28, 2006 at 2:11 pm #515923I went out on Wednesday (got skunked once again) and there was 7″-8″ of ice and guys were out there with ‘wheelers. Hopefully the weather stays cool or gets colder to make some more ice.
May 30, 2006 at 11:34 pm #450279Thanks for all the input guys, sounds like the fishing is good up there as it normally is when we take our trip. Hopefully it stays that way. I’ll try and remember to report back how it went and what was working. Thanks again.

May 4, 2006 at 3:11 am #443529this had potential for an awesome story…..it fooled me for while….pretty sad.
January 2, 2006 at 12:36 am #408264As of last week the ice was pretty good, there was about 10″ on little Yellow where we were fishing. Pretty much the entire lake is frozen over except where the river comes into the lake and by the channel/bridge. Plenty of ice for the four-wheelers. Hope to get back up there in the next couple of weeks before i have to go back to school.

December 30, 2005 at 4:17 am #407655I’ve been going out on the river for the past couple of days and it has been pretty slow as it usually seems to be whenever i try and fish the river. Caught a few nice sized crappies over three days but nothing to brag about. Caught quite a few small silvers as well. The warmer weather a couple of days ago sure made for some soupy stuff to walk around in.

December 13, 2005 at 11:00 pm #403626rumor has it that people are out fishin on the St. Croix already, I don’t know the ice conditions being down at school in LaCrosse, but it sounds like all the cold weather last week made some decent ice.

May 6, 2005 at 3:35 am #361550I’ve fished Yellow quite a few times over the past couple of years…I don’t know about cribs on the big lake but i know there are some on little yellow. The bass fishin’ is decent I know that there was a tourny there last year in the summer…Hope i’m thinkin’ of the right Yellow lake….post some results when you get back I’m thinkin’ of headin up there later this month.
-KingCabelasMay 5, 2005 at 5:04 am #361311Sounds like the fishin’ is pretty decent on the ol’ St. Croix right now…I can’t wait to get done with school here so I can get back and hit up my “secret” crappie spot! I get jealous of all you guys who get to fish when I’m sittin’ down here at school, studyin’ fer finals, just waiting to get back home and hit the water!
Don’t catch ’em all…leave some for me.
-KingCabelasApril 28, 2005 at 2:33 am #359916I take a few fishing trips up to Lake Winnie in northern Minnesota every spring and summer and have had good luck using a Lindy rig with either a leech or minnow. Just a suggestion to maybe try…good luck.
April 21, 2005 at 6:18 pm #358527Slop- I’m over in Drake Hall this year..finally off campus next year. Anyways yeah..that would be awesome if you’d be able to take me out on the water sometime if I can find some free time. I usually hunt fer the walleye’s but I like goin’ bass fishin’ with my buddies back home in the summer.
January 5, 2005 at 4:38 am #334832Yeah…we’re more towards the bayport area..there’s plenty o’ ice where we are…just no stinkin’ fish! Where are they!ahhhhh…..they are elusive little buggers.
July 31, 2004 at 6:36 pm #314890Hey Lindy…was down at Freedom gettin’ some bait and saw a little guide brochure…i think it was yours. Tryin’ to get a little service goin huh?
June 30, 2004 at 12:09 am #310582Not many fish were bitin’ this weekend up there on Yellow. Out Friday night and all we caught was a small walleye. Saturday wasn’t any better. Couple small ‘eyes, few tiny perch, and some rock bass. Not even the panfish were biting. We tried everything we could think of. Weather wasn’t all that cooperative either, so maybe that had something to do with it. There was a small bass tournament up there this weekend, and after talking to a couple of the guys in the tourny, the bass weren’t biting very well either. Oh well…just one of those weekends I guess.
-KingCabelasJune 25, 2004 at 1:25 am #309957Thanks for all the info. I forgot about that river..but now I remember goin in there and catchin’ fish, thanx. Heading up Friday after work…will get in some night fishin’, then all day Saturday…we’ll see if I can’t catch me some fish! I’ll try and get a report up when I get back. Does anyone know about some bass tournament up there this weekend? A buddy I’m going with said there was one up there this weekend just wonderin’ if he’s yankin’ my chain or what. Thanks again.
-KingCabelas.May 26, 2004 at 2:57 pm #306256Chappy…we stay at the Chippewa National Forest Campground by the Cutfoot Sioux Inn. Nice little campground. Looks like the weather is supposed to be good this week, hopefully the fish will be bitin’ and the crowd won’t be too bad (yeah right). Well good luck.
May 24, 2004 at 3:08 pm #305870Awesome reports. I’ve been coming up to Winnie on Memorial weekend for the past 8 years now and every year have a blast. Sounds like this year will be no exception. Will be up there Wednesday thru Saturday. Sounds like all my “hotspots” are producin’ some fish. Usually like to do some rigging with a big leech/shiner…any other suggestions? Thanks for any info. and the awesome reports.
-KingCabelasMay 20, 2004 at 2:24 pm #305512Me and my buddy went out Tuesday and yesterday (Wednesday), and yesterday was the better of the two days. Caught 3 smaller saugers and 4 keeper walleyes (all about 16″-17″). We trolled south of the I-94 bridge on the WI side of the river and only picked up 2 small saugers. Caught a couple in the Hudson channel, and caught some up by the train bridge. Real windy yesterday…hard to get a good drift but we must have been doin’ somethin’ right.
-KingCabelasMay 4, 2004 at 12:14 am #303536I’m from Hudson as well…went out opening morning and managed to catch only a couple small walleyes….and a sauger…I tried south of the I-94 bridge and didn’t have a whole lot of luck…
