Thanks for stopping over Marc! Definitley try to list your boat first. Might be able to capture a couple more $$ that way. You will always have a guaranteed offer from the dealership to fall back on.

Typically the 1198 SI transducer is not used for high speed readings. It may work on some hulls with a lot of time invested in tweaking trans position. Try a high speed (in-hull) transducer with a “y cable”. You are correct about the Y cable. You do not have to switch between transducers. You will be able to get your high readings from the “in-hull” trans and SI readings from the SI trans.

Are you going to be running an ethernet port to link all 3 units?

You should start seeing them in stores mid-late December. They had a few new product bugs to work out apparently. Can’t wait to get out and use one!

I was actually at a small lake this past weekend where we had a swarm of no less then 30 smallies follow up a hooked fish. 3-5 fish following up is fairly common, but I had never seen anything like that in my life. So awesome!

Depends on depth. I like to use 7lb Sunline Sniper Flouro in depths down to 15ft. Depths of 20-40ft I will use 6-8lb braid (with a flouro leader) for increased sensitivity.

Just about any heavy action rod spooled with braid will work to launch a frog into a vast pad field. Its when you are around scattered pads and shoreline cover when you want a “good” frog rod. I pay most attention to the action of a frog rod. Not all “fast” rods are created equal. Each has a different casting action which is the most important aspect when working laydowns, docks, and scattered pad sections. Also, keep in mind that any rod much longer than 7′ is going to make skipping docks and overhanging trees a challenge.

I’ve been using the Loomis 7’1″ frog rod quite a bit this summer. It’s a 7’1″ heavy action, lightweight, and balanced really well. It has a fast tip that makes walking a frog a breeze. I like the 7’1″ over longer rods because you can make more acccurate casts around cover and its much easier to handle when walking frogs. I’ve also using it for heavy jigs and swim jigs.

When fishing deep structure its hard to beat a Football head jig.. When I pick colors I try to match my jig color with the bottom color. Usually, a dark green pumpkin or browns get the job done. If I go punching in the jungle I will use a more streamline jig head(or texas rig) to pull through the weeds easier. Hope that helps!

Unfortunately I do not have any boats here with the transducer mounted to take a picture of. Typically, on the skeeters, we mount them on the step next to the livewell drains. We make sure to keep the bottom of the transducer about 1/2 inch above the bottom of the boat. That is where we get the best SI picture.

We can actually record a period of scanning right on the unit itself and upload it to the computer. Once you’re able to interpret the Side Image it is an awesome tool!
