I was always told when I was younger that the game of golf was invented by some guy who wasn’t coordinated enough to fish.
April 6, 2014 at 9:30 am #1402116And, just what has skin color have to do with it anyway. If you’re good enough to play, you should play. Regardless of skin color. “Just some cheapshot talking head (Barrero) trying to make the news, rather than report it”
April 5, 2014 at 7:20 pm #1402032For starting out, I would check out the abu garcia line with the 5600 thumb bar or 6500. (I have a 4600 thumb bar that is used exclusively for bucktails) I use 50-80# power pro lines depending on which type of bait is being thrown. They aren’t the most expensive reel out there, but in my case, they have been very dependable.
They’ll handle both the baits your considering, and any musky in the waters that are right close to where you (we) live. I’ve run the Chippewa system for years and have never had an issue with my reels handling any of the musky I’ve tangled with. And, they have stood the test of time (with reasonable maintenance) My philosophy is to hold the cost down by not buying the most expensive reel, and spend the savings on other baits/equipment needs.

September 3, 2013 at 5:11 pm #1192664Some other things to also consider when looking at cost per unit. Does anybody else have access to the property you intend to place it on? People will steal them given the chance. I lost one last year that way on private property Also, be sure they seal up real tight. I just lost another to a colony of little brown ants. They had it sooo plugged up with eggs and themselves that something must have short circuited cuz it don’t wok no more! Both cameras were Coverts, @ $235 a pop! Wife has not been impressed with my losses.
March 6, 2013 at 5:40 pm #1149127I live about 1/2 mile west of the junction of the Chippewa River and Lake Wissota. It is locked up pretty tight right now, and will be for several weeks yet. The first boat landing to open up will be the Anson Park Landing on the South edge of Jim Falls off CTH S.
February 18, 2013 at 12:41 am #1142903And liberals wonder why the NRA won’t negotiate with them when it comes to gun legislation. If they (the liberals) don’t come to the table with “reasonable ideas” for possible legislation in the first place, why even entertain the thought of negotiation in the first place. On a second note, me thinks these liberals come on with this outlandish crap knowing in their hearts that it’s a loser from the onset. That way it’ll look like it was somebody elses fault it didn’t pass, and they’ll save face with the anti’s crowd by looking like they are trying to do something about getting rid of those no good for nothing guns.
January 14, 2013 at 6:12 am #1130426Several years ago I lost it watching two guys boat a big musky on tv with my kid. The one doing the netting started out the name calling by saying that the fish was a “real pig”, but immediately followed that up with “that fish is a horse!” My kid thought the guy was nuts for not knowing the difference between a fish and a horse. I’ve simply used “Dandy” to describe big fish.
December 21, 2012 at 1:35 am #1122527Years ago a friend of mine got lazy and wouldn’t tighten his small outboard to the transon of his small pontoon boat. While fishing, it “hopped off” the transom when he hit a submerged stump. After marking the location with a couple of bobbers on a weighted line, they paddled to shore and called a another friend who had scuba gear to come and retrieve it. They waited for him to arrive at the local resort. Prior to getting there, another fisherman came in for a beer and was heard telling the bartender that the fishing was so-so, but he was lucky to have found a couple of bobbers out floating in the lake. And now, my friend “isn’t so lazy anymore!”
December 12, 2012 at 3:41 pm #1119758We lost a 50 something year old man in the Augusta Wisconsin area (East of Eau Claire) last evening due to thin ice. He was not fishing, but was rounding up a flock of domestic waterfowl when he went through. I know the urge to get out there is really strong right now, but you gotta be extra cautious right now. On second thought, be “smart” out there.
November 30, 2012 at 2:27 pm #1116309Got a nagging cough? Take a heavy dose of ex-lax. You’ll be too scared to cough anymore!
September 27, 2012 at 5:23 pm #1101608Depending on political affiliations, one side would say “it half empty or half full”, while the other would say the glass is too big!
September 25, 2012 at 4:35 am #1100955Wilson is a former Badger, but, he should go down with an asterik for throwing the only (I believe) game winning interception in the NFL.
September 16, 2012 at 11:48 pm #1099147Never been a fan of BB. O-line is over-rated, and Ball’s “Heisman Season” has been scuttled. I didn’t expect the replacement line coach to make earth shattering changes, but where does the offense co-ordinator fit into this snafu? Is he next to go? Alvarez isn’t gonna put up with this long. Stay tuned, Bucky.
September 5, 2012 at 4:55 pm #1096763Pug, take 2 shovels and the garden hose. Block off a short length of the trail with the shovels. Then put the garden hose full throttle down into the trail next to one of the shovels. The water will flood the trail, causing any mole between the shovels to come shooting out of the ground. Be ready to kill’em, cuz they are really fast at disappearing back into the ground. If none come out, pull the one shovel and alternate shovels down the trail till you either get the mole(s) or you’ve chased them out. It is effective, but this can make a mess out the yard too! Another good way is to simply walk along the trail with a pitchfork and stab away. That way you can flatten the trail out as you go, too.
September 3, 2012 at 8:27 pm #1096405Tell her that Dr. Vinny Goombah (You know, Rodney Dangerfields personal physican) says in order to prevent a repeat of this dangerous misstep, you’re to stay away from both the flowers and the hose. That oughta do it….
September 3, 2012 at 3:07 am #1096334I know it sorta makes you feel better carping about the cops on this web page, but if you really want to make a point, go public with the local newspaper opinion page. Or better yet, offer your story to one of the reporters. If printed, that kinda of exposure will do better for the rest of the public that may need help some day. Then, I’d consider taking the citations to the next council/police meeting and ask for an explanation. It might not be appreciated, but you’ll have made your point “BIG TIME!”
August 30, 2012 at 9:39 pm #1095926It does from time to time get a heavy bloom in areas, but I haven’t been on it recently, so I couldn’t say for sure what it looks like now.
August 30, 2012 at 2:22 am #1095691The golf club is no longer called the Elks Club, it is called Wissota Golf now. Taking the Chippewa River North out of Wissota, you’ll have no trouble navigating until you get just below the Jim Falls Hydro Dam. Old Abe Flowage is the area of the Chippewa River above the Jim Falls Hydro Dam. The South end of Old Abe is a bit tricky , but “stick to the middle channel”, and you should be alright. P.S. Have not heard much about fishing being any good lately though.
August 5, 2012 at 4:03 pm #1089832Have you been able to get out at first daylight and try it then? I found that to work pretty good for the first couple of hours at a small lake nearby. Found them regularly on the outside weed/pad edge on surface baits, and 6-10 feet down that same edge fishing wacky worm style. Pretty much peters once the sun starts to get higher.
July 25, 2012 at 3:04 am #1087087Hey Whiskey Sour, looks like you got your wish except it happened in the 8th this time! What a choke, again!
July 20, 2012 at 6:49 pm #1086169Do the MNDNR admin rules address local govt abilities in regard to the closing/removing of existing public access to public waterways? Some years ago near me we had a pair of neighbors that wanted the local township to abandon the very end of dirt town road that their driveways and properties intersected. Problem was, that would close the long existing public landing at the very end of the road. The local warden pointed out that in order for govt to close an existing landing, they had to create a replacement landing in exchange. End of that discussion! If MNDNR rules say there is similar to this incident, you might have discovered “an angle to fight back”.
July 19, 2012 at 10:23 pm #1085874I once saw a “plumbers butt” poster in Cliff’s Bar outside of Waverly Iowa a few years back that said “Say no to crack!” My buddies thought it was hilarious. This one might change their viewpoint.
July 17, 2012 at 1:07 pm #1084825Speeding is dangerous, it is as simple as that! Driving too fast for conditions is continually one of the leading causes of all accidents, if not the number 1 cause. Heck, even hurrying through a woodworking project can lead to drastic consequences if using a table saw!
July 16, 2012 at 4:10 pm #1084550Are they selling Elk River Custom Rods there? I bought one in their shop in Phillips Wi a couple of years ago, and heard back then that SBC was going to be a local dealer for them. “A good rod, with a real good warranty”.
