    Crane Fly Larvae.

Trout absolutely love them. Don’t wait on trying them out. Supplies last maybe until June if your lucky. Then the larvae aren’t available until next Spring.

THey are a transparent looking larvae. Gray black in color and very delicate. If you hook them anywhere other than behind the head or it’s head, they burst like a water baloon.

    Again, TROUT love them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DA brings up a good point and topic all need to be aware of “easements” and fisherman friendly access points.

Take the time to ask when fishing waters.

Especially with the new regs on the formally known as non-desginated Middle Branch of the Root River, more folk will be looking at accessing it.

Let it be known there is some very “kind” water with very un-kind or not fisherman friendly land owners in and around these waters.

THere is some history with one and ofcourse it was a case of one fisherman ruining for the rest of us.

So that being said, please TAKE TIME(usually takes a couple minutes) to ask landowners if you can access waters form their land….and THANK THEM as well!

    Happy _pre-Spring everyone!

    Thanks Mike,

Speaking of prizes, I would like to announce the latest committment. This Years (2005) DNR Trout Stamp winning Artist Jason Brown will be graciously donating a print of his winning art work! It is a painting of a brook trout.
If you didn’t already know, it is hard to find prints of brooies let alone good ones and this takes the cake.

I will more than likely be purchasing one for myself!

I’ll try to keep everyone here up to date.

By the way, wonder if anyone caught the radio show Saturday out of ALbert Lea?

Good idea. I was looking at the map before I went out and noticed a spot I had wanted to try. UNfortunately it was the “frontage road” for the Lake Zumbro Highway, if ya know what I mean! SO my expectations weren’t high to start with.

Maybe I can get out during the week soon!

    rcr,

So your having success then? The gills and sunnies there are very nice in stature. What kind of structure or area are you working for the gills?
Early on before folks were driving on like madmen, the crappies and sunnies were mixed in with each other.

When I was there this past weekend I had fish in the area 2-3 hours before sundown.

Also, don;t be sucked into the tear drops presentaiton either. I have been using small spoons from Northland and Scenic Tackle. 1/16 oz’ers.
One waxie. I start with that and can get an idea fairly quick on what kind of bite I will have and then at that point scale down or go home.

It might be some good action with the crazy “clippers” coming and going the rest of this week.

Hey Mike! Last Friday the leeches were the ticket for our action on Pepin…thanks!

THe streams came up even more since yesterday. Nothing too dramatic, but it’s a start.

If we can continue to see Karst regions headwaters, pumping out cold new habitat, I expect to see some of those mongo browns return.

The warmer slow flow has really spawned some food for the trout as well!

Most of the designated waters continue to produce as expected. Unfortunately, the Morel hunt will draw me away from the rod and reel this afternoon!

    Keep the rods bendin’!!!

    Something to share,
I have had a couple real nice fish this Spring…all from big water! Takesome time to walk some bigwater while it’s still wadable, a big fish is waiting.
Numbers aren’t really there, but the size isnice. SO far a 20 1/2 inch and a 22 incher have succumbed to hardware launching!!!

    Good points!!!!!

No offense but comparing SE MN streams to Montana’s doesn’t compare. However, I do understand your points and enjoy your posts. You are an asset to the fishery and so is DA.

Might be a little of kilter when applying only one technique in your pursuit of trout, but hey whom I to say!LOL

    Good stuff guys! Brookies rule!!!

However, it doesn’t help when stocking occurs only 1% of catchable brookies have been reintroduced.

Shows a lack of interest to me.

Hey, maybe we should go smuggle some coasters from up nort eh and transplant them ourselves??

I think mention of “Selective Harvest” is key in this debate.

Personally, other than trout fishing, I don’t believe “Catch and Release” should still be around or used in our vocabulary.

True Catch and release will only harm fish and their habitat.
    Selective Harvest enhances.
SHowing stringers and it’s proposed ill-effects….oh hum.

    Valid arguement, but lacks substance.

Here is a semi-related question for everyone. If “the majority” of river walleye/sauger fisherman are Catch and release fisherman, not “really” caring if they take any home,

How come the last few times I have been on Pool 2(Catch and release only) I feel oh so alone!????????

Thanks to all who continue to provide easy access to fishing information!!!!
